  1. Hello everyone! Ramadan has started few days ago and i was wondering if there were any sleevers that are going through fasting for the first time or have something to share with others who are fasting. i am one month and two weeks post op and my experience with ramadan is going great so far, for those of you who don't know what ramadan is, its the ninth month of the Muslim year where muslims strictly obtain from eating, drinking, smoking and sex from sun rise to sun set for a period of thirty days. in my region we fast for 4 am to 7 pm a total of 15 hours every day, during I've experienced little to no hunger! which is amazing! BUT it is easy to get extremely dehydrated because my Water intake is limited by feeling sick and bloated if i drink fast or large quantities at times, so i have to remind myself to drink sips of water every few minutes to keep myself hydrated. Heres a few tips that might help you from my experience, when it comes to breaking my fast I've noticed that if i ate immediately i will get nauseas and probably won't eat for hours after which is a bad idea because you have little time to get all your Vitamins and nutrians , so instead a glass of water or juice some dates and a break for 15 minutes will do then i go and have something to eat, by that i won't shock my stomach and go from extremely hungry to extremely full in a few seconds. it is very important in this month in particular to not skip your Multivitamins, it is extremely hard to plan your meals like other days and you'll find yourself gravitating towards fatty foods, sweets and lots of high sugary drinks that will make you feel weak and probably hungry in a few hours so the least you can do is have your vitamins and Protein. if you're craving fatty foods be sure to focus on the healthy ones that will make you feel full and not as guilty, salmon avocados Peanut Butter are some of your good options. DO NOT WORKOUT WHILE FASTING! its extremely dangerous to your body, your body is already weak during fasting and putting the extra pressure won't do you any good, the best time to work out is after hours of breaking your fast, you'll be reenergized by that time. Suhor (eating an hour before you fast) is usually the hardest thing to do but it is very important not to skip it, it is usually in the very late at night 3:30 am or 2 am Suhor is there to help you carry on for the next day. for me i keep a covered plate of a sandwich some vegetables yogurt and water next to my bed stand to make sure i never skip it. i know its sounds funny, but watching other people eat sometimes helps me forget that I'm hungry somehow SO Mukbang eating shows have been so helpful these few days. that is all i have, if you have any ideas or suggestion please feel free to share i could use a couple more to help me through Ramadan.   2. Exactly a year ago I had the sleeve done, and today marks my 45 kg total loss. I never thought i would ever come close to the number i now see when i stand on the scale "59 kg" last time i was that weight i was in elementary school! The surgery was the best decision i have made in my life, people always told me weight doesnt matter thin or fat big or small it wont change who you are. Well it did, first with my confidence. I learned to embrace how i look now, i became more comfortable in my skin which is something i failed to do in past years. I don't try as hard as i used to to fit in, i don't seek peoples acceptance of me. And on a physical health level, i don't take half of the medicine i used to take when i was obese, i can be more active i have so much energy to anything i put my mind to. Even if i don't look the way i imagined myself to. I still love where i am and how far i came. My stomach doesn't look perfect, but im so grateful for it. My arms flap, but its only a small price to pay for your mental and physical health. If you're struggling in anyway or if you're second thinking the surgery, just know that you're the one that can make it work. Set your eyes on the end goal and you will defiantly get there. Its not easy, at all! It takes commitment and patience. The road can be long and hard, but in the end it will all be worth it all! This is how I am feeling after losing 100+ lbs and i hope you all have a successful weight loss journey!

    why no soda??

    I have asked my doctor the same question, im a redbull addict and going a day without it gives me endless migraines. He said its an easy way to gain all your weight back, plus you might not be able to tolerate it early on. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. Hello everyone hope youre all having a wonderful day! I had my sleeve done back in April 2016 i am five months post op and ive lost 38 kgs so far! 7 to 6 more kgs to my ultimate goal! Woho! Everything is going so well! But because im almost at my goal weight i have some problems.. My belly! Everything have shrunk and looks perfect, i have almost no saggy skin due to my daily gym visits. But my belly still holds its shape. Smaller, yes. But the same, and its driving me crazy. I look exactly how i imagined i would look at this weight, but i didnt expect that my belly wont budge.     Almost there! But..

    I wouldnt recommend working out this soon, instead stick to 30-40 min walking daily and as soon as you start your solid diet hit the gym up! At least this is what my doctor told me Plus working out this early might cause dizziness and shortness of breath. You'll find yourself weaker than you were before.   8. Congratulations! This is gonna be one of the best decisions of your life❤️ good luck, lose all the weight but never the motivation❤️ My first few days after the sleeve were so bad! My back was black and blue bruised for some reason, i was nauseated all the time, couldnt drink any Water and felt like i was suffocating had to stay at the hospital for 5 days!     thank you so much for your advice! i did get a Multivitamin shot before Ramadan to prevent the weakness that comes with fasting it helped me a lot!

    Hello! my name is Tessa and I'm a 22 year old class II obese girl. i was looking for support group community to share and document my process in and i found BariatricPal Ive been a big girl almost all my life, i went from an extremely skinny kid to an over weight teen. However, i have never seen my weight as a problem even when i was over weight, i have always thought that my body was not perfect but not too bad either so why change it! that is until recent years.. my weight has skyrocketed in almost five years i went from 70 kg to 105 very fast, bringing with it lots of medical problems, high blood pressure, back and joint problems, asthma, high cholesterol levels, stretch marks, and lots of insecurities. i went on lots of stupid extreme diets, protein only diets that made me sick to my stomach and at times very moody, i never had time to work out due to my very busy schedule but i did manage to go to the gym from time to time. i have just graduated from university and decided to invest all my time and effort to lose the weight and get my life back on track again, i have decided that Gastric sleeve surgery is my best choice to help me achieve my goal and prevent illnesses like diabetes that my doctor is predicting for me, my main goal is not to lose the wight for beauty and appearance purposes (even though its a big plus and going to be a huge boost to my insecurity issues) but to mainly tackle some if not all my illnesses, the fact that I'm 22 and already suffer from illnesses that prevent me of living a normal life is troubling to me. Today I'm setting my surgeries date and i will be updating and documenting my journey through this from All in all, i joined this website to educate myself as much as can to tackle obesity and learn how not to fall back to living an unhealthy life.   13. I was addicted to redbull pre op, i used to have 4 everyday on average. My surgeon suggested i completely eliminate any fizzy drinks even sparkling Water after the operation for at least 3 months. All the gas in these drinks will leave you feeling nauseated and bloated, so its best not to put yourself in this situation. For me personally im eliminating all sodas just to optimize my weight loss progress and to make sure i keep the fat and the sickness that comes with it away for good, i wont go back to where i was even if it means not having soda ever..     He told me that I'm going to damage my liver by doing so and scared me out of it! i had 70% off my stomach removed and I'm worrying that it won't have the full effect. thank you so much for the feedback and your time
  15. hello everyone i am one week post op and I've been feeling great so far! so far i lost 5 kg only in one week! which is scaring the crap out of me, I'm on a clear liquid diet but still fell very hungry at times. i still don't know if its hunger or cravings or what. Water makes me nauseous but i manage 1500ml a day i can drink other liquids fine. i have a few questions i hope you guys can help me with: 1. when can i start working out? and whats the best way to start, can i jump to regular working out or should i start with walking? 2. when can i have Protein powder and is it bad to drink Protein shakes without working out? ( i went to purchase some Protein Powder and the guy refused to give me any, he said you can't take any protein powder without working out or lifting is that true???) 3. what kinds of liquid food is recommending in this stage? 4. and last; does it make a difference how much the doctor removes from the stomach? is it possible for him to not remove enough of the stomach for this surgery to work? that is all! hope you all have a great day!
