  1. I found this on Pinterest and thought it was interesting. Any feedback on its accuracy in terms of other's personal experiences? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I'm nauseated by the smell. I don't want anyone to eat it around me. Has anyone else had food they once loved that they now find disgusting post-op? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. Once you were cleared to add resistance training, did you find that doing these exercises-or even increasing cardio- caused a temporary stall or gain? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protein shake

My NUT actually suggested doing the Protein supplement at night. I had been drinking it first thing in the morning and then I'd skip Breakfast, delay lunch until mid-afternoon...I was so satiated by the Protein Drink that I wasn't eating properly or appropriately. Now that I've moved it to the evening I am actually getting in 3-4 oz of real protein at each meal. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Incision gross pic

I snipped and then pulled out all 5 of my sutures 2 weeks post-op. Came right out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. I'm at exactly 16 lbs 3 weeks post-op without the scale budging in two weeks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. I'm 3.5 weeks post op and I have my first business trip tomorrow. Fortunately it's a 24 hr trip to DC (I live in Boston), and it's significantly shorter and time and distance as compared to my usual trips overseas. Nonetheless, I'm worried not about what I'll eat, but about STAMINA. I'm friggin' EXHAUSTED. DEPLETED. Just so, so tired. I'm getting Protein and liquids in, but I go to bed at 7:30 every night. I know I'm still healing but I just feel so tired. Since I can't bring my Protein shake through security, my plan is to drink on the way to the airport, get a Greek yogurt and big bottle of Water at the airport, nap on the plane, and I built in time for a nap before my work event tomorrow evening. Fingers crossed I can make it through this! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. I was supposed to "eat clean" as soon as my surgery date was set, but I did not due to int'l travel to places where eating fruits and vegetables wasn't safe. I did the best I could, and 48 hrs prior went on liquid only. Asked my surgeon how my liver was after surgery and he told me "you'll get another 85-90 years out of it!" (I'm 39). 10. The first week post-op I felt like I had been hit by a truck. This was due largely to the major surgery, but also going cold-turkey off of a major caffeine dependence and carbs! (I did not do a pre-op diet). I got some energy back during the second week, but now that I'm back to work and life, I am utterly exhausted. I found the increasing my Fluid does help. 11. I am/was an emotional eater. Yesterday something came up that would have triggered me to overeat--binge, really. It was my gut instinct, but I couldn't do it. I physically cannot. In one was I was scared. "How do I deal with my emotions?!" But in another way I was SO relieved I had the surgery-this is why I had this surgery. It is a very powerful tool! 12. Me too!!! Omg, I'm dreading summer when my husband cranks the AC! I'm already in a hoodie and taking an extra blanket to bed! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. After losing 15 lbs in the two weeks post-op (and 0 lbs pre-op because I didn't do a pre-op diet), I have been stalled for going on 10 days. I know it's normal and to be expected...I've googled it, read the message boards, and still stayed awake at night worrying that 15lbs is all I'd get out of this process. BUT, I'm wondering what your experiences have been in terms of how long this lasted, and what (if you can identify anything) broke the stall. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. My surgeon also prescribed them for 10 days, starting on the first full day home. I did them first thing when I woke up just to get it done. I injected the fattiest part of my hip. Somedays it pinched, other days not at all. The area will be very bruised as you are injecting a blood thinner subcutaneously. Oh--and grab some alcohol swabs from the hospital before you're discharged :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Coffee

We can have decaf tea or coffee as part of the clear liquid phase - before even leaving the hospital! MUST be decaf, and it probably goes without saying to not dump in a ton of sugar :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Traveling!

I am three weeks out tomorrow and will travel on Thursday. I'm going to be very proactive about finding Snacks I can eat and keeping them in my room, plus packing some for the trip. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. I went to WalMart today to buy more Premier Protein shakes and saw that they also make bars with 30g of protein each. Doubt I could eat a whole one now but I was wondering if anyone has tried them? I travel internationally for work a ton and used to bring junky Zone bars with me but these have way less sugar and waaaay more protein. I bought one box but will wait to try them. 18. I asked my NUT this same question yesterday-she said don't count calories. Only count grams of Protein and ounces of fluids consumed. Don't worry about calories now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. Well, how many days post-op are you? If you are right out of the hospital and it's literally all you can do, it's a liquid and it has Protein. Beyond the first week or so I would say no... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. I went to my nutritionist this afternoon. I'm 17 days post op and down 15.5lbs, but no movement on the scale in days. In spite of everything I've read about the 3 week stall I can't help but get worried. She is a lovely woman--but blunt! She said "Knock it off. Your body will release the weight when it's ready. You will not stay at 228.8 forever. It will come off." Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Leading up to my death?

Totally normal. Being wheeled into the OR I was telling my husband what to do if I didn't make it...Honestly, my odds of living a longer, healthier life are much greater now than I had continued down the path of morbid obesity. You will be fine :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. Similar to my instructions. I ate yogurt, chicken salad from the deli (without celery), I pureed chili, and just kind of stuck out the boredom until today which is when I was cleared for regular textures Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. ...That's what I feel 13 days post op. WLS id life changing in so many ways. For the first several days post-op I focused only on the negative - what I was giving up for the rest of my life. Now I feel a sense of freedom from the never ending cycle of food dependence I once had - constantly thinking about when, what and where I'd eat - thinking about having to hide my eating habits from others, hiding trash, receipts, wrappers...you name it. Always with a sense of feeling out of place and abnormal because of my relationship with food and my weight. Now I feel peace--maybe it's because I've cut out all of the processed garbage, or because I have found a way to eat better that I am not white-knuckling through, or because I'm sleeping better because I haven't had caffeine in weeks--I don't know. But I'm hopeful and optimistic about the journey ahead. I wanted to post this in the pre-op area because there's a lot of anxiety leading up to surgery and the immediate post-op can be unpleasant to say the least. Just hang in there and know it can feel really good to get past those first hard days. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Nervous and wondering

I didn't do a pre-op diet. I was doing a ton of international travel up to one day prior to surgery, so the day before surgery I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, a salad for lunch and a Protein Shake for dinner. That was the extent of my prep. Prior to that I ate as I normally did and probably gained a few lbs to be 100% honest. I asked my surgeon how my liver looked after surgery and he said I'd get another 80-90 years out of it (I'm 39). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Work related

Only my immediate family knows I did it. Tomorrow is my first day back. I already got a "You look like you lost weight" comment from a friend the other day, so I don't know what my co-workers will say. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
