About to start - couple of random questions :)
meeshee posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all... first post here! I'm excited, nervous, scared and hopeful. Couple of random questions: 1. I'm single, so my folks are going to come stay to help take care of me. The problem is that having them there is stressful to me. My question is - how soon will I be able to get up/mover around/ go for walks (stairs?)/make my own food, etc.? 2. How soon after surgery can I go swimming or in the ocean? 3. Did you tell your co-workers/friends or not? I'm leaning toward not making it super public, but doesn't it come out anyway when I order a dinky little plate of nothing and then hardly eat it? Thanks all - looking forward to being on this journey with you!- 7 replies

13 Things To Know About Living With the Lap-Band
meeshee replied to George Fielding MD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Thank you so much Dr. Fielding, I'm pre-op, hoping to get approved to have surgery next month, and you have answered many of my questions with just these 13 facts. It seems out here on the West Coast that the lap band is a bit poo poo'd by the bariatric community, that they are discouraging people from having it, but I think it seems like a really good solution for someone like me. I'm 45 years old, 5'4" 225 lbs, fighting going on insulin, and i think this is the best option - I'm so glad to hear from a patient AND Dr. that thinks it is worthwhile. Thank you! -

Thank you both! Nicole - I actually don't have it scheduled yet... I went to my initial introductory meeting on April 5, and since them I've been doing my follow up action items... met with Psychologist, attended a Support Meeting, watched Prep videos, etc. They told me that I will most likely not have to do a 3 or 6 months prep diet, that I can go straight to surgery, but I honestly don't know when I will have the surgery. I'm hoping for some time in May. Good luck to you! Depending on when we both get scheduled, maybe we can start a "May/June class" forum for people who start at that time . Meeshee
