6 month Insurance Requirement ( weight requirements )
MuffinzGamma replied to hazelzay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is MY biggest fear that I start losing weight and fall below 40 BMI because I was barely that at initial weight in like 40.7 and this is my month 3 of 6. Yes I have been walking more 3 times a week, yes I am eating a lot healthier but my weakness is Starbucks even though I have switched to "skinny" but then I eat stuff that I really do not even enjoy like BREADS and high starchy foods because I have been afraid of my BMI falling so my weight has literally been the exact same month after month. It's hard to get in touch with the coordinator at my surgeons office for clarification and when I call my insurance company (Meritain) they just say 6 months of supervised diet without ANY gain but it still makes me nervous after reading some of the other requirements out there. Losing 1-2 pounds a week and such just FREAKS ME OUT! -
Looking for people who are just starting the bariatric process
MuffinzGamma replied to XxStephYxX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That totally makes sense because I am pre-diabetic with a prolactinoma and never diagnosed w/PCOS but would not be surprised about that either since 2 of 3 sisters have been diagnosed with it. I just have to keep on trying to lose some weight before my next visit to PCP in June something is better than nothing since my insurance did not specify an amount. -
Looking for pcp in gilbert, az
MuffinzGamma replied to rosestara's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't have my official first visit until this tuesday but my nut sent me an email that said that everyone in their program is required to lose something every single month and you can't gain weight. Everyone must at least do 3 months even if their insurance doesn't require it or even if they are self pay. During my seminar they said that the BMI you have during your first weight in is what they submit to insurance to meet the bmi requirements unless you have medicad and/or medicare (i don't remember which one) which requires you to be weighed the day of surgery and your bmi must meet the requirementsGood stuff thank you so much!! I also received my insurance requirements from Bridges and couldnt understand the 90 days w/PCP & NUT vs 6 month supervised. I started on March and will just continue thru my 6 months and hope to get sleeved in Sept. It seems so far away but i know it will be here before i know it. I would for sure like to keep in touch with you guys since we are all in AZ. I live on Glendale. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App -

So is the expectation to be during my 6 month supervised to LOSE weight? And if i do and my BMI goes down will that disqualify me for my procedure? My start weight was 250 3 months ago and this month i am 251. I log everything and walk 30 minutes 3 times a week still working on the increase Water thing and i can't lose! It's frustrating to be so focused and no result. My NUT said mu Vitamin D def may have some effect on my non weight loss. I take Rx for Vit D now 4 more weeks of them has anyone else heard this before? Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App -
What insurance do you have? That is my biggest concern EXACTLY what you said - no sleep apnea, "pre diabetic", high cholesterol and hovering 40 BMI. I have Meritain thru Iasis Healthcare a division of Aetna. I would think if diabetes is diagnosed with A1C at like 6.5 generally and i am at 6.4 and 6.2 this last lab draw it would suffice meeting criteria of a co-morb ugh! O guess time will tell planning for surgery hopefully in Sept. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

Do most people have pre-surgery weight to lose? Is this surgeon preference or insurance? Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

I'm a little confused about the nutritionist visits. I have to be supervised for 6 months, currently on month #3 do you know if the norm is to see the nutritionist every month for those 6 months? And then continue after? I am waiting for my surgical office coordinator to call me back but just figured i would ask since i can't sleep and just browsing thru. are you sure you don't? Have you been checked for sleep apnea or have light stress in continence like when you sneeze? That can be comorbidity! I bet if you go to your PCP they can find you a comorbidity if they look hard enough. I technically didn't have any, but if I had been tested for sleep apnea I am certain I would have come back with it because I would wake up choking and gasping for air and feel tired in the morning.I requested a sleep study bcuz i was constantly waking up choking and gasping, thought i would suffocate in my sleep it was so bad! Snoring like a bear.....negative study I am so pissed! Not only bcuz i still think i need a cpap but also bcuz i have no comorbs, my bmi is hovering. After reading this i will have to re-read my insurance criteria to qualify. If i go thru all of this and get denied for something like this i will scream!!(and cry) Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App
