    Tried to warn this person

Of course he has a treatment course should you erode--hopefully this will still be the case once he has your money. As it is, most of them will not even treat the port infections they caused, let alone an erosion. If a dr. here did that, he could be sued. It is not snobbery to note what circumstantial evidence has pointed to--I consider it facing reality. I have visited third world countries and they are filthy; filthy countries are more likely to have unsanitary hospitals. I in no way implied that no U.S. dr. has ever had an erosion; but erosion does seem connected to surgical practice/infections, both of which are minimized by safegaurds in place in this country. Neither did my dr. imply that all erosion occur in MX cases. I'm glad you have someone here to do your fills, and I hope he or she does not change their mind, as happened to someone on OH not long ago.

But the point is we need to do our research and not choose our dr. by how shiny and modern the hospital suite is. Did I do all the research I should have? No. I put my faith in Inamed's recommendation, but now I see who else they have recommended. Knowing this, I would have done things differently. I ended up with a great surgeon, thank God. Do you know how many times your surgeon has been sued for malpractice--no b/c it's not even a concept in MX. Sure there are bad dr.'s here but they are eventually pushed out of practice by our regulatory and tort system. How many erosions are connected with his practice? If it weren't for the ppl on this site, we wouldn't know of any. How many erosions should a competent surgeon have associated with him? Absolutely ZERO. My dr. has never had one, but he has treated many from MX dr.'s. Although the cause(s) are unclear, erosions do not "happen". They seem linked to infections and surgical technique, both of which are preventable. Several ppl mentioned to this woman that it is nearly impossible to get fills/followup care, namely b/c surgeons are busy with their own case load, but also b/c of a bias that I used to think was rooted in resentment b/c MX doctors do an expensive surgery at half the price, but I now consider justified. Now I realize that not only do these dr.s charge as much as the market will bear, but they also have no one stateside for followup visits included in that price. Will is sway her decision? No. she will be back on the boards griping b/c no one will do a fill on her.

No, Matt you're right. She posted this expecting everyone to trash me and she ended up not getting much sympathy. I knew she'd made up her mind but who knows? maybe after what everyone else said, she will at least check out lapbandtalk and that's all I wanted.

    Has Oprah had WLS?

If she's had wls, she would hide it b/c she has been anti wls in the past.

What's the diff between RNY & DS?

Is vertical gastrectomy the same as BPD/gastric sleeve?

What's the diff between RNY & DS?

The DS surgery makes ppl stink:huytsao , but this can happen with RNY also and may have to do with severely reduced caloric intake--there are even some pills (brand name Devrom) that are sold as an "internal deodorant"

I Have A Bad Feeling About This

Dr. Jesse now practices in Largo. She trained with dr.s Jacobs/Gomez in Miami--you can reach their office at 305 285 5090
  11. Gastritis can cause back pain along with reflux; a woman who used ot post here had the same symptoms as you and the dr.s never got to the bottom of it; I am convinced there was something wrong with the placement or that the surgeon left an instrument inside her:eek: I hope you figure out what the problem is:cry

Definately go to the Dr.! Sounds like you may have a fibroid or other growth that will have to come out.

    Probably no slip

Thank you both. Kathy you are just a peach!:-D As I said, I will hold out for the endoscopy, but dr. says they have never had an erosion and that he has taken care of erosions from other dr.s I am so shocked that it may be too tight b/c everything goes down so easily!

    Probably no slip

Dr. said he doesn't think my band has slipped--it is probably too tight and that is causing the reflux. Then he told me the problem is not my fault as I have done so well with the band. I can't imagine why I was afraid to see him--I somehow thought is WAS my fault. I am scheduled for an upper GI on 1/11 and will ask for an endoscopy to diagnose and ulcer. Can't believe I am too tight since my last fill was only too 1.75:cry --I'm beginning to think I may never lose those last 20lbs.

  18. Actually mx dr.s do not proctor u.s. dr.s anymore--except during the band fda trials--this is according to Dr. Trace Curry.
  19. I agree. Most ppl I know with port infections have had them right from the outset. Erosion could not possibly happen at this speed. BTW where are all my posts?

    My Erosion Experience

Thanks Penni. I hope you heal quickly and consider rebanding with a competent surgeon; I'm glad you didn't listen to your dr. I think I have an ulcer or GERD so I will insist on an endoscopy. Since ulcers are caused by bacteria, I am getting concerned.

    My Erosion Experience

I don't see how port issues or stitches can cause an erosion--don't see the connection. Does it mean that an infection triggers the erosion? How would an ulcer contribute?
  22. But then what happens when you lose wt and the fat disappears on its own?

    my symptoms

I have had pain where my band is and am having heartburn everyday. Sometimes there's a strange feeling in my port. My restriction has been absent for months. I don't get to see my band dr. until 1/12. In the meantime, my regular dr. can give me something for the heartburn. Reading over the threads it seems like the symptoms match erosion:paranoid :cry If you have eroded or slipped, what, if any, were your symtoms?

    my symptoms
