Horomonal Eating - PMS and all that jazz

So happy to find this thread, hormonal eating is something I struggle with as well, and probably one of my biggest worries once I'm post-op. I take comfort in all yall's experiences.

    Any Catholics in the crowd?

Old thread, I know, but I wanted to chime in. I'm Catholic, swam the Tiber in 1996 and my surgery is May 16, the feast day of St Simon Stock and the Monday after Pentecost. I was invested in the brown scapular and I'm praying the Pentecost novena as well as one to Our Lady of Mt Carmel. Just wanted to say hello!

    Eucharist (catholic) -Post Op

Very glad to have found this topic! I'm about 9 days pre-op and I plan to ask my surgeon about this when I see him next week. The hosts at my parish are a decent size and I struggle to break them down without wine, so this is going to be rough for me.
  4. LOVE hearing this! I've got PCOS as well and I'm hoping for a resolution to my symptoms and, once it's safe, to be able to have kids. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. Your body stores hormones in your excess fat. So when you burn that fat, the hormones get released into your body, and then your body gets confused and your periods get goofy. I'm dealing with that myself, coming off a 10-day period. I've lost 30 lbs so far and I'm still pre-op, very curious to see what losing 100 lbs will do to my cycles! 6. I've been charting my cycles for a couple years or so now, and while I've always been rather irregular, I've had my own "normal" pattern I could identify. I'm very curious to see what drastic weight loss does to my cycle and when things level out to a new "normal" for me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. My pre-op diet starts today: no more than 800 calories, 60-80 grams Protein, all liquid. Works out to about 4 Premier shakes and change. Plus I gotta drink all my Water. It's gonna be a long 10 days.... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. Pre-op liquid diet starts tomorrow, eek! Now the question is, do I want my "last meal" to be Chinese or Wendy's?

Neither is necessarily "last meal" material unless you're planning to gorge on doubles or triples.

I thought I'd do a last fling before my surgery, but then it struck me that one more or one less gorge would accomplish nothing on either side of the coin. It's your call.

Wendy's. I find that Chinese--minus the rice, still works for me post sleeve.--Wendy's? not so much. Enjoy! :)

  9. My pre-op diet is only a week, but it's all liquids and something like 800 calories, which is about 4 shakes a day. I hope to be receiving more detailed instructions sometime this week!
  10. I went to an informational seminar back in October 2015, and my first appointment with the surgeon and dietician was December. I knew it would be about 6 months because of insurance. I'm just glad I finally am doing it!

    Shorter than I thought!

Lol, that's what I was thinking! I'm 4'11" as well, I get any shorter and I'm gonna be missing out on amusement park rides!

    Protein shakes

I'm liking the Premier ready to drink shakes, you can get cases of them at Sam's for a decent price. I'm still sampling different powders: unjury, Chike, About Time. Don't think I've found a truly awful one yet
  13. Hey, I'm a 16er too! I'm in Morgantown WV, having surgery at WVU Hospital. My insurance required 6 months of a supervised diet (monthly classes, my last of which is this Monday!) as well as some health clearances. I'll be on my preop diet for a week, pretty sure it's strictly liquid but not certain. Oh, and the sleeve is my surgery of choice So glad to have us all here together! Hi all!

Howdy neighbor! *waves* I'm in WV as well, my surgery is next month at WVU Hospital. I'm also opting for the sleeve, I think it will suit me better. I can't speak to quitting smoking except to say good luck, they say it's tough but so worth it in the end. The clearances and tests you'll go through usually depend on what your insurance requires and what's the "norm" for your surgical program; mine is 6 months of nutrition class, cardio testing, pulmonary testing, psych eval, letter from my PCP, and endoscopy. One more class to go! I'm relatively new to this forum as well but I've found it a wonderful source of information and support, and I think you will too. You can edit your profile from the main webpage, that's how I do it, I don't think there's an option for that on the app. And "stickies" are forum posts that are permanently set at the top of the page so they're easier to find, usually FAQs or necessary information. Hope that helps, and welcome!

    Bariatric exercise program?

I'm not actually required to go to the exercise lab, but it's strongly encouraged, and I had my first visit today. The hospital where I'm having surgery is associated with a huge university, and the Human Performance Lab is primarily run by exercise physiology students, so I felt a bit like a guinea pig Their initial evaluation includes an EKG, stress test, body fat measurement, and full health history, and after all that they design you a well-rounded workout regimen (cardio, strength, flexibility) that isn't too hard or too easy. Then they serve as personal trainers to guide you through it, make sure your technique is good and you're not going to hurt yourself, stuff like that. It's pretty neat, much more personal than a "real" gym, and I hope it turns out to be a good fit for me. I'm like you, rather self-conscious about exercising in front of people, but the students were great and helped me feel comfortable. They see a lot of bariatric patients so it's really no big deal for them. I like that I'm also kinda helping them learn as well.
