    August Bypass Buddies?

Hello. August 1 for me. Lapband was removed on April 25th. Doctor makes you wait 3 months before revision to RNY. What are you doing to get ready? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  2. I have BCBS and they approved me with no issues. If you are concerned you can ask your case manager at your surgeons office or call and ask someone with BCBS. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  3. I had LapBand removed in April and will have RNY in August. Some want you to wait and heal before doing the next surgery. Also insurance may have requirements you have to meet before RNY. I had to complete a 3 month diet and psych evaluation as well before I was submitted. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  4. I just got the letter BCBSIL that I'm approved for gastric bypass. I'm emailing it to my case manager so I can get everything scheduled. I'm hoping the first week of August before I start school in the middle of the month. New beginnings ahead!

    I'm Approved!

I completed all of my qualifications on 5/4/16. A little over 3 weeks to be approved. I had the lapband removed on 4/25/16 and I have to wait 3 months before gastric bypass.

    Complications

The band works for some and not others. If you are experiencing issues then you need to see your surgeon and they will perform an EGD. The band will more than likely have to be removed. Some surgeons will remove the band and perform the revision in the same surgery. Others may make you wait. It just depends. Don't beat yourself up. Many people have been revised from the band. Good luck with everything!
  7. Hello. I'm new here. I'm going from band to bypass. Band removal is scheduled for April 25th. I have to wait 3 months and then revision to gastric bypass. I'm looking forward to this. The band has slipped and GERD is really bad now. My highest weight was 340. My lowest weight was 280 before additional diabetes medications caused some weight gain. I've been lurking on the forums for awhile and just wanted to say Hi.
  8. I completed the last phases so I can be submitted for insurance approval. It was a long day, but I learned a lot today. 1) I will be off all diabetes medications 2 weeks before surgery. I will need to check my blood sugars on a regular basis. 2) I will be sent home with Lovenox injections for 7 days. I'm afraid of needles, but everything I look at says it's not that bad. 3) I'm looking forward to this. The idea of getting off or reducing my medications just makes me happy. I'll keep everyone posted on when I get approved. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  9. I'm glad to hear everything went into remission so quickly. Are you no longer using a CPAP for sleep apnea? I have one, but we don't really get along. The mask irritates my face. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Band to bypass yesterday

Congrats Sheriberi. Wishing you a healthy recovery. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  12. I had the lap band removed today. No real pain at all. I have to wait 3 months and then gastric bypass. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  13. Good luck. Life without the band is nice. No acid reflux and I still eat like I'm banded. I'm keeping my meals small. I don't want to gain weight. I want to get down to 275-280 before I start the liquid diet for bypass. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  14. It's definitely your choice. You are the one who has to live with your tool. You want the most success so pick the option which is right for you. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  16. Ok. Thanks for me letting me know. I hope the next 3 months fly by. Looking forward to being healthier later this year. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  17. Congrats on your weight loss. I hope I don't gain with the band being out. In your defense, you had 2 procedures done compared to my 1. And pain tolerance is different for everyone. I'm up and working today. I may even try to make my last class tonight. Liquid Tylenol is working. It makes me wonder what my pain will be like after RNY. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  18. It doesn't hurt. It's sore, but no real pain. I took some liquid Tylenol at home. It was an easy surgery for me. I'll let you know how I feel tomorrow. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  19. Good luck on April 25th Whitefoot. I'm sure it will be fine. I'm wondering what kind of damage the band has done. Hopefully they will give me an update after I wake up. I have a follow up appt on Monday May 2nd to get the staples out and then my final NUT and psych evaluation. My hope is everything can be submitted and I can get on the schedule for RNY by the first week in August. The first week in August would be the 3 month window for healing. Plus I want it done because I start classes again in late August. I don't want to miss a week of class in the beginning.
  20. I had the expectation it would be done in one operation, but I think it's based on your surgeon and insurance. My surgeon said he waits 3 months after band removal to allow time to heal. Some have said it's easier in one operation and others say they appreciate the waiting period from band removal to bypass. I honestly didn't ask if it could be done all in one. My hope is that RNY can happen in August before school starts. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
