Hunger and Fill Question
Bunkey1965 replied to Army Wife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded April 1 and just on the 8th of May got my first fill of 1cc. Right before that I was so loose I could chug water no problem and it was scarry to see my appitiet increasing( yes I too had a couple of indescressions) Now I would say my fullness is about what it was maybe the 3rd week post op. Sipping water again and getting full on about 3/4 c soup. (they put me on liquids for 3 days after my fill) They told me that in 3 weeks if I notice an increase again in the amout of recommended food an experience no loss for more than 2 weeks to come in for another fill. I will see how it all plays out. I realize it may take a few fills to get it right. -
Gas Pain!!! UUHGGGG!!!!!
Bunkey1965 replied to willsmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was the Question about the yellow surgical stuff they sponge all over your tummy or the wound/insision care? I let my strips fall off. I washes delicatly around my belly just not on top of the strips. when they fell off, I put vitamin E oil messaged on the insisions (after the scabs came off too). I walked like a mad woman to get rid of the gas pains swinging my arms wildly about. -
I too am having those monthly issues. I want to snack so badly. Now I can chug water so I know I dont have any restriction. I had 3 hershey kisses the other night. I must keep those bad foods outta my house! I go for my first fill today. I realize that this fill may or may not change my hunger.

I was told (December 07) they would require BOTH 6 month diet and 6 month phyc evaluation. They did approve bypass right away. Here at San Diego they apparently just started doing lap-band at Balboa Hospital. I opted to self pay with a MORE EXPERIENCED doctor over jumping through the Tricare hoops olny to get a LESS experienced surgeon there.

probebly because the left over upon reheating tend to dry out more.

Does the band make your "feeling full" signal work stronger?
Bunkey1965 replied to CapitolChick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find it really helps when you eat real slow. Actually put the fork down between tiny bites. Really savor and enjoy each one then stop when you feel your stomack not growling anymore. That way you wont overeat and run the risk of PBing. I havent experienced that yet. -
Hi, I went with Dr. Rumbout. I was offered bypass by my insurance and didnt want my insided re-routed. There is also the deal with phyc-eval approval and doctor supervized diet. NO THANK YOU. I was impressed with Dr. Rumbouts EXPERIENCE. I wanted the BEST. AND no waiting or jumping through hoops. I have 2 friends that had their surgery there with 0 complications and both have lost over 100lbs. I did check with about 15 or so previous patients and all who got back with me had glowing reports. I was very impressed with the whole experience. A friend of mine who had gastric lost 150 lbs and now gained 70 of that back. It does require work for this to work. But I find the trade off is so worth it. I am down 16 punds from April 1 and couldnt be happier. In 1 more weelk I go to regulas food. THIS is the reason I chose this method. To eat like everyone else but way less and be satisfien and not obsessing over my next meal all the time. Everyone is different. You never know what you can handle while others cant. Moderation is the key with this. I tend to err on caution, so I figure Ill do what the nutritionist recomends, at least in these healing days. I feel since I paid for this thing I can deal with the basically small time out of my life to do the stages of eating they recomend after surgury. I am 42 am 5'2" and at my surgery I weighed 240. Now I an 223. I have a ways to go but I am so glad I have a helper inside me.

Hello to all you fellow bandsters! April fools day was the band day for me. I have been pretty sucessful with the weight loss. I wieghed myself today 2 times and it said 205.8. 1 1/2 weeks ago it said 226. On the day after the surgery it said 238.9. I feel like Ive lost weight but I didnt think that much. I wont get on the scale until its been at least a week since doing it. I have heard its best to weigh yourself in the morning on an empty stomach. Also, always use the same scale. Anyway, I sure am happy with what I saw. I still have another week of mushy foods. Whats been hard is for me to accept compliments from coworkers. I keep wanting to downgrade the compliment and say somthing against myself after they say somthing nice. I have got to learn to just say "Thank You".

how long after surgery did you have a drink
Bunkey1965 replied to jaylow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would ask my doctor. Although I was 5 days out and had 1/2 a bloody mary sipped very slowly over about 1 hours time and I did feel it. (DH and me were stuck at the airport for 7 hours due to bad weather and my meds were packed in my checked luggage) I am sure the doctor woud say no. New weight 04/27/08 205= 35 pounds gone!! -
Help me respond to friend's negativity...
Bunkey1965 replied to Blund's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a friend at work that asks me when I get to my goal, I need to have my band removed and "be normal again", She hasnt a clue on what I am going through. I realized I cant change her mind but I CAN change how I feel about her being naieve. I CHOOSE to not buy into her comments. Shell never understand. How great it would be if I could CHANGE her opinion! But I have found I dont need her approval. I at least have my DH on myside and thats WAY more important. -
I have seen a few people list this as a option of what they ate on mushie stage. I was worried about the carbs. Also baked potato?

I have read somewhere that the elasticity of skin is also hereditary. Also your age has something to do with it. I KNOW for a fact I will have excess skin. When I lost 60 punds before on one of my crazy diets(GAINED IT ALL BACK!) PRE banding, when I would lay down I could grab my skin in a pinching movement on my belly. I was reminded of pizza dough. YUK! Now after banding, I relize this is my fate. Yet another reason to not like myself. BUT, I can have it cut off. I choose to go that route when I get there.

Good detective work Mary. -
I was noticing alot of these mushy stage recipies have beans in the soups or onions. I would think the skin from the beans wouldnt do well even with chewing. Also the onion tends to be pretty fiberous. I had a tomatoe bisque and because of the tiny pieces of tomatoe I was afraid of the skin getting stuck so I would spit them out. It also had tiny bits of basil chopped. What about seasonings? I mean besides s&p. Or am I being too paranoid? I havent had a fill and am going on 15 days post op.

I was at a friends house last night for dinner. They had tacos and I brought with me a bowl of Mexican Meatball soup. Just drank the broth part(wow a whole 1/2c maybe) That wasnt the problem. One of my husbands friends was saying I was looking good and asked me how much I have lost so far. I said 14 lbs. Then him and the husband of the friend I was visiting gave one another high 5 and said "You owe me, man!" They were making bets on my weightloss!. I found that really offensive. I just tried to talk about something else. Just need to vent. If I talk to my husband about it he'll say I am too sensitive.

I forgot to tell you all. I was able to get one good dig in. After the betting ,later a couple of them and my husband were also suggesting I get new titties to "improve" myself. My husband was going along with it saying "I could live with that". I quickly said "Right after we get your PENAL implant, right?" That shut him up quick.:rolleyes2: -
Confessions of a Cheesaholic
Bunkey1965 replied to TxChelsey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think this a learning process. But you should always respect what you have inside you now. I try and think about the craziness that lead me to where I am today. I am 13 days pst op and my hunger has returned somewhat. I even put a spoon of peanut butter in my evening shake. THAT made me feel like I was bad. I just get so sick of the same flavors all the time. I also remember, I got this band to help me LIVE and Be HEALTHY. Not to see HOW MUCH I can loose. I want to eat with others or myself and be satisfied with a little of what we are having. What a GREAT feeling to know we wont have to eat those huge portions. It already gives me a little sence of peace knowing thats whats ahead. You just need to find that in yourself, not in your food. -
Why am I bloated?
Bunkey1965 replied to miamipeaches467's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it will get better. I too had issues with the left side of my neck acheing and my left back/shoulder. That has seemed to calm down. Its basically a waiting game. Although I think what bugged me the most about the bloating is that I was wanting my close to fit looser not tighter and it was a little disconcerting. Lucily I tend to show weight loss in my face first so at least some people have noticed I am down 14 lbs. My bowels on the other hand..well just waiting to get regular. I just tried putting Benefiber in my protien drinks. Lets see what happens. -

I love the seared ahi at Ruth Chris's. Melts in your mouth. Wow I think my stomach is churning just mentioning it. I better be careful, I am still healing inside. -
