I am almost 6 months post-op. I have had a very stressful 2 months with my husband being ill. He was hospitalized for three weeks in Cleveland, OH and then Cheyenne

I'm sorry to hear that your husband has been ill. I can imagine how hard and distracting that can be from your diet. Don't beat yourself up about it just forgive yourself and move on because there is nothing we can do about the past, only the future.

Oh my, so sorry your going through this. To get some protien in they do have powder shakes, you can take a small 8oz carton of the milk on the shelf. They sell it usually in the Organic section. Put powder in shaker at home take milk with you in purse or another bag you might take a book in to read? Mix the 2 when hungry and drink. I would also take the ready to drink drinks. Put in fridge at night does stay a bit cold while your out. Prayers to you and your husband.

9 weeks Post sleeve feeling frustrated
trishrnyoung replied to menaegle's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hi. Sounds good to me. I had surgery on March 22, and have lost 48 lbs. I have hit what is calles a "Stall" several times a couple times for a couple weeks or more. I think Protein is the key though. I often don't think I am getting enough protein. but it sounds like you are getting it in your proteim powders which I think I will do more of. Thank you for those wise words. We can all learn from one another. Hang in there. -

May 18th- Binging and Guilt!

Honey, this is NOT the easy way out. I am 6 wks post op and weighed 243 before surgery. I am a retired CPT from the Army and never dreamed that I would end up this way. I use to weigh 117 lbs for years. I asked myself how this happened too but it really doesn't matter. The important thing is that you are doing something about it. I don't know if age gives you any special resolve, as I am almost 57 yrs old, but I have lost 32 lbs in 6 weeks and I LOVED food. You will make it regardless. You will not have a choice. You will see things much differently after your surgery has come and gone. But, one word of advice. Whether your doctor told you to or not, start being on a liquid diet now if your surgery is the 18th. I ate right up until the night before my surgery and the incision, one of five, that he took the stomach out of he aslo had to clean out because my stomach was full of food. I ended up getting an infection and still have an open incision getting wound care every day. It is not worth it!!! Take this simple word of advice. Start that liquid diet now! -
13 hours and counting

Relax. It will be all right. One day at a time. The thing that I was most afraid of was waking up after surgery and realizing it was DONE! But I just treated it like any of my other surgeries and I was A ok. Don't be afraid. And don't eat tonight! -
Any April 18 sleevers?
trishrnyoung replied to MrsKTS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well I am now on solid food. But, I am finding so much I can no longer eat or drink. Keep a food log so you will know for the future. And, don't touch those things again. Not to discourage anybody and I am NOT advocating throwing up but after have some hamburger and orange juice, I was up for four hours during the night throwing up orange juice. I am now 6 weeks out and I have lost 32 lbs. Keep on keepin on, It will all be ok. Atleast that is what I keep telling myself. -

if you are post-op the soft food stage starts 2 weeks out or after your first post-op appt with your surgeon. I didn't do the pre-op liquid, my surgeon didn't require me to, or he failed to tell me. But I now know it is a must as I suffered complications, an infected incision, because I ate the night before. It is not worth it. If you are pre-op, it is very important to be on that liquid diet. -
So what's the deal with fizzy drinks?
trishrnyoung replied to MamaRhea's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a diet pepsi addict - before surgery. I am not even going to take a chance on drinking it now. I don't want the empty calories. I know I need to drink Protein for alot of reasons and my stomach doesn't hold much so I choose it first. I have an open incision from my surgery because of infection and I need it for that too. Aslo, I have hair down to my butt and I don't want to lose it so I choose protein to avoid that. I would give anything for a diet pop, but, I care more about getting results from my surgery. I am still a novice at this having had surgery on Mar 22. I still have a long journey ahead of me. -

Pre-Op Liquid Diet... Does it get easier?
trishrnyoung replied to B_D's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Mar 22 and the surgeon did NOT require that I be on a liquid diet. They simply advised that I was not to eat anything after 11pm and I was first up in the morning for surgery. I can tell you that it is a good idea atleast where I am sitting. I ate a huge supper the night before and I had horrible consequenses. The surgeon said there was still alot of food in my stomach when he got in there. He said he had to clean all that out before he could do the sleeve. I had 5 incisions but the one he took the contents out of and the stomach out of got infected. So bad that they had to open the incision back up. Now I have a wound about 2 inches long and 1 inch deep (It has improved, it was worse at first). My reason for telling you this is so that you will embrace the idea knowing that you probably wont have the complication I had. Youre going to be on a liquid diet after surgery so get used to it for a little while. It will all be ok honey. Just keep your eyes on the goal. Good luck!! -
Help! Three weeks out and I have gained 8 lbs.!
trishrnyoung posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
the first 2 weeks I lost 20lbs. I was so excited. But a week ago I stopped losing and when I got on the scales this morning I have gained 8 lbs. I am so upset that I am considering go beck to the full liquid/puree stage.I am so discouraged. I don't know what to do. Of course starting the night before last I couldn't get ward. Same thing yesterday all day. I took my temperature and it was 101.8. I called the surgeon on call and because of our spring/winter storm he told me to go the local ER and have them call him. They said I have a UTI and put me on Bactrim. But I feel there is something wrong. I hate a bunch of strawberries this morning and it barely filled me up. It feels like I have not even had the surgery!!! what is goin on. Of course I still have an open incision form it getting infected that is being cared for everyday. Also I am so tired, any suggestions? could I have a leak? No one has addressed that. -
my 3 week stall is annoying me
trishrnyoung posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
so, I have heard of it, the three week stall, but I don't like it very much. I think part of my problem is that I am not taking in enough fluids or just throwing them up. I just took some mirilax because I havent had a bowel movement in a week. Yes, I said a week. I have RA and am on pain medication and that doesn't help at all. so when does this stage pass. I am so discouraged! -
Well I just took some Miralax and hopefully that will help. I don't want to sound greedy about my weight loss, but this was a huge step as it was for all of us. I am grateful for this forum. I will be checking in often if thats ok. I plan to start each day new with realistic expectations, even if, each day.

I hope youre right and having a bowel movement will make a difference. And, I know maybe I am expecting too much of my surgery. I never was one to eat much during the day but would eat a huge evening meal. So, consequently, I am not concentrating very well on my fluids and Protein. I need to have some kind of reminder to drink, drink, drink I guess. Any tricks you can share with me would be appreciated.

I was sleeved on 3/22 and reached 21 lbs down three days ago. But now, I have gained three lbs back! I am so discouraged and upset, I just don't know why I haved gained 3 lbs. Maybe I am not getting enouch Protein. Or maybe its because I haven't had a bowel movement in a week. Anyone know what I should do? I am so discouraged. Please someone, tell me what to do. I have heard of the three week stall because at first before I was three weeks out I thought that is what had happened. But now, I get on the scales after two days and I have gained! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Emotional struggle after gastric sleeve
trishrnyoung replied to KittyCathy22's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
well honey, I understand all too well. I had no problem drinking that much pop or soda before surgery but just hate this Water flavored or not stuff. I really miss my pepsi. But I keep thinking how much better I am going to feel after I lose 100 lbs. I was sleeved on Mar 22 and have lost 21 lbs. I doubt I get enough Protein in but I get so nauseous that I have to stop putting things in my mouth. I am almost 57 years old, but, I think I can do this because I wasn't always heavy. I still remember small. That is my salvation. I have had my emotional moments a lot, but I always have. That is why I had the sleeve as opposed to the bypass was because I knew I couldn't stop my psych meds. I have found adult coloring is very relaxing and takes my mind off of the whole thing. It helps since I am retired and need something to occupy my time. Also find a supportive person to talk to. I have my husband who has been through this with me every step of the way. Good luck to you honey. I will pray for you.
