Feeling odd eating at restaurants
jea(n__n)ette replied to loyalty_queen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On post op day 6 I dined at a Mexican café and ordered Caldo Tlalpeño. The hardest part was not sipping any Water out of habit. The savory broth tasted amazing. I also had some cheese and avocado that was in the soup but let it melt in my mouth. Pretty much 80% of the soup was taken home, which I pureed and still tastes amazing. Luckily I never felt nausea post-op. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -
May Sleevers?
jea(n__n)ette replied to lady1000000000's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@NikkiRT What you choose is a combination of your preference and BMI. The gastric band is a medical device implanted into you and meant to be in there permanently. The stomach remains intact. If the band gets removed for any reason then you're doing to gain weight back, but if your body doesn't tolerate a foreign body then it can get removed. In gastric sleeve, a large part of your stomach will be physically removed and remaining stomach tissue gets stapled up. There's no way to get your original stomach back. On average people lose more weight on the sleeve. The band does have a high percentage of complications and up to half require adjustment surgery, such as for a band slippage or the port has flipped. May Sleevers?
jea(n__n)ette replied to lady1000000000's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although my insurance with Aetna did cover WLS if certain parameters were met, when I decided to have my procedure my BMI was 34 and I had no comorbidities, my asthma didn't count. If it was 4 years ago, my BMI was 37 and my cholesterol and Hgba1c was borderline. I felt like a waited long enough and went ahead to have the procedure out of pocket. I am post-op day 12 and the pain at the port site got worse since last week. The surgeon recommended 2 weeks off, despite me reminding him that my job requires lifting 150 pounds and pushing 300 pounds. I'm glad I got 4 weeks off & hope I recover in time. It still hurts to sit up or bend down, and I can barely hit 500 on my incentive spirometer. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App

How Did You Decide On A Goal Weight?
jea(n__n)ette replied to eyeononederland's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My goal is to get down to 130 pounds, my former weight when I was 18-21. Even at those ages I was very sedentary. So if I can get toned and go back to wearing size 10, it'll be a NSV for me. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -
My advice, if your partner does not support you (and it tends to be men), they either don't believe in your strength and determination to lose weight, or they are very insecure about you becoming more physically attractive to others and leaving. In either case, a partner that doesn't support you will sabotage you. Why make your weight loss an uphill bake when it doesn't have to be? Dump him before and get your revenge body, or get your revenge body and then dump him. I prefer the former. You are doing this for YOU, and you come first. Depressed & Can't meet H20/Protein goals
jea(n__n)ette replied to fullyalive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even tho the RDs say focus on Protein first when you eat meals, the "protein first" is in regards to eating protein, carbs, and fat (or protein, veggies, fruit). In the early post-op stage it's more important to stay hydrated and get all your chewable Vitamins and minerals in. If a particular item is making you nauseous, go backwards in the diet stages as necessary and try again later until your nausea is controlled. There's no point in forcing something in if it is too early for your body to handle. The consequence of vomiting will be worse, you don't want to be dehydrated and have electrolyte imbalance. I had my procedure the same day as you and had my first follow up appointment yesterday. I don't feel hunger, and sometimes I don't even want to take sips of my fluids because I feel full or bloated. Try the app Aqualert. There's a free version with ads but I loved it so much I paid $2.99 for the ad free version. You can customize it & it reminds you when you sip. Mine is set up so that from 8 am and 12 am, every 15 minutes it will play a Water sound and I sip 60 ml (2 oz) of water from my tiny kitchen measuring cups. This greatly helps me stay on track. Sometimes I reach my goal of 64 oz by the evening, sometimes by midnight, and sometimes I don't reach it. Don't beat yourself up. Take the time to be successful in the long term, even if it means short term goals need to be adjusted. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -
dead inside...
jea(n__n)ette replied to devillynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You will survive and pull through this. So will your granddaughter. We all have something inside ourselves that help us overcome adversity, and it is called resilience! As others have mentioned, go to counseling, whether it's a psychologist, therapist, church counselor, work counselor, or hotline. Perhaps do a few couples counseling sessions with your granddaughter. Counseling helps you confront your feelings and helps you develop problem-solving and coping skills. I'm glad to hear that you are exercising again. Your son would not you to lose the drive, ambition, and progress you have made. Do not be by yourself, get out of the house and spend time with others. Socializing will help with your depression and WLS motivation. I witnessed a friend and coworker take her last breaths the day before my surgery and it was hard emotionally and physically. As long as you keep thinking positive, enjoy life and your path to recovery. Hoping you and your family are well. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -

WLS Discount Cards & Restaurants Who Accept Them
jea(n__n)ette replied to delta_girl's topic in Food and Nutrition
The card that I received is my surgeon's business card on one side, and the other side states, "The person in possession of this card has had a surgical weight loss procedure that restricts the amount of food they may eat. If available, please allow them to order smaller portions. Thank you." ???? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -
Dealing with toddler post opp
jea(n__n)ette replied to Brenda Sherwood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with KristenLe. Sounds like he's unsupportive in terms of child rearing and unsupportive of your new healthier, lifestyle change. If he won't agree to help with child rearing, household chores, and your personal needs, you need a family member or friend to be by your side helping at least for the first week, whether they stay with you or you stay with them. If he's still unsupportive, the lack of support and stress from your partner can sabotage your future of a healthier and happier you. And your child needs a healthier and proud mother as a role model too. You put a lot of thought, time, and effort into the decision of having WLS, and to be successful, you need to put your needs first, not his. Best wishes. Over the years I've been taking 3 different SSRIs on and off for depression and anxiety. When it was time for another drug switch I told my primary that I also wanted to lose weight, so she prescribed Wellbutrin because one of the well known side effects is appetite suppression. For me, I felt the appetite suppression only in the first couple days of starting on it and then again when my dosage was increased. I'm still talking it post-op, but now I have crush it and take three times a day versus when I took only 1 daily extended release tablet. So far it's doing well for me, best of luck Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App

I hope you meant IV tubing and not the nasogastric tube. After having WLS, I wouldn't let anyone but a radiologist put an NG tube in, least my stomach gets a new undesirable alteration. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -

Waist trainers.....what's the scoop?
jea(n__n)ette replied to sassyfrass23's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Take a corset to your surgeon and see what they have to say. Prior to my procedure I wore a corset that reduced my waist from 39" to 34". I wouldn't dare do it now. That's a lot of constant pressure being applied and your organ(s) are already altered by surgery. Then there are "corsets" that don't cinch at all, it's basically like wearing a belt. If it's the fashion look you like, lose substantial weight first, then wear a corset that requires no cinching. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -
You definitely need protein! During my clear phase I had Isopure Cookies and cream flavor. If you get unflavored Isopure then it's only half the amount of Proteins, but at least you can add a bit here and there to warm beverages. If you want more variety on clears, try diet Snapple, diet Fuze, and Powerade Zero. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App

When do you tell someone new you're dating you've had WLS?
jea(n__n)ette replied to gpmed's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think it's up to how comfortable you feel with the new person you're dating. For myself, I'm an open book and I'm going to be blunt and say what I have to say. In regards to my 1/2 - 1 cup meal portion, they'll definitely know why I'm having 2 bites of their appetizer, entrée, and dessert! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -
Antidepressants Post Op?
jea(n__n)ette replied to Erin Nicole Davis Kling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to take my medication crushed. Just make sure your med is not the extended release version. I had to get my doc to resubmit my script to the pharmacy and I now take it crushed and mixed with 2% chocolate milk and a bit of Stevia. It still tastes horrible but at least I'm getting the med I need. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -
About to start - couple of random questions :)
jea(n__n)ette replied to meeshee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi meeshee! 1. It definitely helps to have people helping with household chores at least during Post-op day 1 through 3, and you'll definitely need a driver to take you home POD 0 (day of surgery). Once the anesthesia got out of my system on POD 1, it was insanely painful for me to bend down and feed my cat. So don't be stubborn like me and take the help offered! 2. You should be able to swim when both A: your incisions are fully closed and B: your surgeon clears you for exercise. 3. I did tell my friends and coworkers. Initially a few were saying "you don't need the surgery" but soon they joined the rest and all were supportive. Who you want to confide in is your call, but last night I had an amazing time eating dinner with friends. They understood my situation & suggested a restaurant that had a great Soup selection (I'm currently in full liquid stage) and were also checking in on me that I didn't overeat and become sick. 80% of my soup ended up in the To Go container and the only person surprised was the waitress! ???? It is very exciting and all of those other emotions rolled into one. Best of luck! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App -
I did tell my coworkers months ahead that I planned on having surgery, and when the time got closer I only told the higher ups that I'll be having surgery on X date and will probably be out X number of weeks. Considering I work in a hospital and there's a well known thing called HIPPA and HITECH, neither of them asked what I was having done. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using the BariatricPal App

I'm lap band post op day 4 and so happy to try creamy soup today. (Reminds me of eating Chef Boyardee in daycare 30 years ago! [emoji1] ) I filled up a 0.5 cup container with Campbell's healthy request creamy tomato soup straight from the can and ate half with a kid's spoon. I don't feel pain but I do feel very full, like the thick soup is just sitting in my pouch. The instructions say to mix the soup with a can of water or milk. Does anyone do this? And does it affect how the pouch feels?
