Hi Adore! Every doc's office is different, and all insurances are different, so it would be pretty hard to nail down a specific time for the phone call, unless you find somebody on here that has your same insurance & used the same surgeon (but...that could totally happen). I'm excited for you starting your band journey. Good luck!
  2. Here's hoping it comes quick, Beth!! I've got ALL my fingers crossed for ya!

    New In Texas

Welcome to the party, msmadonna. I'm a Texan too. Yee-Haw! State fair time!! As far as I know, the decision to fill or not at the time of band placement is entirely the surgeon's preference. The biggest thing I've learned from being on LapBandTalk was how different doctors take different approaches. Snoop around, there's a TON of good stuff on here!! Good luck with your journey.
  4. Nah, don't feel silly! It's all good here. 1) - Probably you'll be naked (the issue is that they don't want even the slight chance of static electricity from the panties in an environment of flammable gasses). The gowns are spacious and offer personal privacy. Don't worry about possibly having your period...the OR nurses deal with this ALL the time. No big deal. 2) - Nope. If anything, the post-op diet combined with the pain meds left me a little constipated. TMI? No such a thing!!

Well, I'm not trying to brag, but...... Private TV's in the bedrooms in my lab, baybee!! Patients never ever see each other, unless they come in as a duo (husband / wife, brother / sister, are some of the "duo's" that I've done). Clearly that hospital you were in needs to hire me as a consultant (for a huge consulting fee, of course).

I'm sorry I used the term "pregger". Apparently only pregnant women can refer to themselves that way. But it is acceptable for the rest of us to say "pregga". True, some people won't be able to take Ambien. I know a ton of people have horror stories about Ambien....most of the ones I personally know didn't follow the directions (you're not supposed to take it until you are in bed and ready to go to sleep). Usually it was they took the Ambien and then watched TV until "they felt sleepy". I'm not saying that's what you did, slim...and I don't get any kind of commission per pill (heehee), so I'm not trying to be a staunch defender of Ambien. Just putting in my 1.4 cents (it was 2 cents before the Dow dropped today).

So you saw this? Or they told you about him? Sounds like maybe they weren't super concerned about privacy at that particular sleep lab!! It sounds suspiciously like a grand mal seizure....
  8. Sheesh, that's a lil' harsh! This is the section for people that aren't happy with their bands, Joy. And although I am terribly happy with mine, the truth is that the lapband isn't 100% effective. Nothing is. So, the way I look at it is, why not let people sound off here without giving them grief?? The exception I usually take is when people distort the facts, or post blatant lies, like the OP. But in the long run, if the complaining annoys you, then don't peek in this section....it's not worth the added stress, man! lol
  9. I prefer to think of it as sharing my incredible wisdom with the newer members! Oh.....who are we kidding?

    Sexism Rules!

Oh, I hear ya. For me, intelligence and wit is foremost. I have tried, but I cannot be attracted to the airhead Barbie types (well, i mean pre-marriage). But.....even intelligence and wit can't compensate for fugly!! Hahahaha

LJM, as a pregger, you are kinda out of luck in the sleep department. You have a hormal flux working against you, as well as the physical restrictions that your lil' bun is providing. The tylenol and benadryl stuff works by exploiting the antihistimine effects.....but those kind of meds tend to stay in your system for a loooooooooong time. Relaxation (by bath or mental exercises) is a great tool. An EMG (sometimes known as a "nerve conduction study") is where they put little needles in the skin, and measure the electrical potential between the two points. First ya get poked by needles, then they apply electricity? Sign me up!!!

    High Fructose Corn Syrup commercial

Yes!! Coming soon from the Corn Refiners association: "Corn sqeezin' moonshine.....it's nature's intoxicant! And is perfectly safe in moderation. Take a swig from Pappy's jug today!"

    Is everyone against me?*RANT*

    Why??????

Yeah, I don't mean to belittle anybody's struggles with depression. But I will say, the more I deal with people, the more I realize how crazy some people really are. Not PC I know, but I have come across some real "doozies".

I'm sorry She, nothing is ever really easy when it comes to sleep. My personal recommendation for a quick fix is Ambien (but follow directions). A lot of people have horror stories RE: Ambien, but I've given thousands of those pills and have only had 1 pt show iffy side effects (very iffy, at that). There are also the standard "good sleep hygeine" tips...no TV in the bedroom, no caffeine close to bedtime, no strenuous exercise close to bedtime....lastly, this is a simple thing, but at your usual reasonable bedtime, lay down in your darkened bedroom and close your eyes. Lots of people have ignored their body "drowsy" signals for so long that they think they are not sleepy until they are ready to pass out. Normal time to fall asleep is between 15 - 20 minutes. I could go on and on because I'm a nerd, but I'll refrain. I feel your pain, tap. My wife busted me this morning (as I was eating my grits & eggs, I was thumbing through a cake decorating book. Why? Because it was there, man). Why the EMG? If it's not too personal...

    roll on next week!!

All right donna!! *slaps high five* Come in, look around...there's a lot of good information to be digested. Good luck!
  17. You said it yourself, Mrsace! Let those bad habits go!! Seriously, the more you practice good habits and good choices now, the more successful you will ultimately be when you do get banded. I know it's difficult to do.....but the important thing is to not give up. You can do this!!

Tickets are a measley $ 250.00 each (those are the cheap tix!!).
  19. Funny thing, though.... I pretty recently read a study that showed that people of a certain socioeconomic group that had access to preventitive care (via free care clinics) didn't utilize them very much. They tended to go when their medical symptoms started interfering with their A.D.L. (which is pretty much what they do now). Bottom line, you can provide free preventitive care (uh, if you can find a way to effectively fund it), but you can't force people to use it.
  20. Well.....I agree and I don't agree, Nanook. The Forum is "Life after Lap-Band Removal", and so everybody here should realize that this section is not going to be chock full of people happy with the band. People that haven't had success with the band, or hate the band, or whatever, should be able to find support here. On the other hand, if you read the original post, I think you'll see that it contains misleading facts and is poorly written in a combative style. The poster, LAPBANDFREE, joined in September and has a total of 12 posts. Personally, I'm a little suspicious....smells a little like a troll to me. Whether it was her intent or not, the OP surely stirred up the pot, didn't she? Got a lot of LBT'ers bickering with each other...

    Bye bye band!

Hey, you gotta do whatever makes you happy! As I've said before, don't let anybody on the internet drag you down....although I do believe that most of us here wish you well. Good luck, homie!

It's all about college football!! I <heart> me some NCAA football. I also like high school football, but that's beside the point. All you need to know, Froggi, is that the University of Texas Longhorns are God's favorite football team.
