How about: I went to Hooters last night and came home sloshed ??
-
I saw plenty of that. The staff handled it pretty sensitively, but it still happens in front of a massive crowd. I felt horrible for those poor people.

I'm not a doc or a nutritionist, littlefroggi, but under 1000 cals sounds waaaay too low. The thing is, your body continues to burn calories long after you finish exercising.....that's why it's so important to incorporate exercise into your life. The more lean muscle you build, the higher your Basal metabolic rate will be (simply put, the more calories your body will burn at rest). In my opinion, 1200 - 1300 calories is ok.....much lower than that and you might mess up your metabolism. This sounds like an excellent question for your doc or nurse, BTW...

Good luck Oct 13 Bandsters!
plain replied to RestlessMonkey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second that! And hook 'em horns!! -
I would think they would give you post op instructions at the appropriate time, Katherine. The thing is, there is a large variation between doctors when it comes to post op diet. Personally, I did a week on liquids, a week on mushies, a week on soft foods, then on week 4 I was allowed to start in on real foods. The reason that some docs want you on a liquid diet post op is to give the sutures on your stomach time to heal.

Being banded in December. Can't wait
plain replied to Warnold's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there Warnold (Great username, by the way). Welcome aboard. There is a lot of info to wade through here, so get to wading!!!!! -
You, my perceptive friend, are correct!! I'm within a stone's throw. Now, I don't know how long it's been since I was under 300 lbs, ('cause, yanno...I'm a dude, and we just don't weigh) but it's been a while. This past weekend the wife and I took the kids to an amusement park, and I fit very comfortably in all the rides.

Should have read "I'm not saying the nutritionist is wrong" Mac, Do the sleeve folks need more protein because there is a malabsorption issue? My doc / nut didn't give me a "minimum" amount of protein to consume. Pushing protein and limiting carbs works great for me. I once lost about 50 lbs on the Atkins diet....but I couldn't make Atkins my lifestyle. That's why the band has worked so brilliantly for me. I'm not excluded from eating anything now (besides the doughy foods, of course.....I can eat the "darker" breads if I go slow). The only change is the amount that I eat.

Are We ready for a Black President?
plain replied to TheWatcher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
OMG.....I quit looking in this thread because of the incoherent arguements and rabid propaganda. Nothing has changed. No facts debated, no theories being batted back and forth....just raw emotions and ambivalent statements mislabeled as facts. Sheesh. Did ACORN also register people for Lapbandtalk?? -
IDK.....By now, you should know that there is a substantial difference in advice given by everybody's doc / nut. Is this just during liquid phase (like drinking Slim-fasts, or the equivalent) or from here on out? I could kinda see it maybe if all you were allowed for meals were protein -shake thingies.....Once you can eat real food, though, you're going to have trouble getting that much protein in. I mean, there's a finite pouch space, and your body needs fruits and veg too. I'm not the nut is wrong, I'm just curious....

Uh, it ain't just Fox News that has distorted fact / opinions. Can you say "NBC"? or the worst of the worst....MSNBC. Unless you buy anything from small business. When their tax costs increase (and their profit margin declines) the costs get passed on to consumers.
-
84 grams? Is this a rule straight from your doc? 'Cause that seems kinda high...assuming the time fram is "per day".
-
Where are the belly pics?
-
Donations, not such a big deal to me. Of course, I'm sure both parties have their minor scandals in that area. The voter registration thing (as Mac alluded to) is a ! HUGE ! thing. Now people are admitting that ACORN pressured them to register multiple times (and gave others money and smokes to do so). Nice. Especially since ACORN gets funding from the Fed.

This thread is going to be sooo inappropriate!
plain replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in Rants & Raves
Well....if we're talking aspiration (having foreign particles enter the trachea instead of the esophagus) there really is no distinction between pills and....say...popcorn. Or a loose tooth, for that matter. So, while there may be legit reasons for bandsters to avoid pills, I don't think aspiration is a biggie. -
Sucks @ first, until you figure it out Mac. Luckily the learning curve is fairly steep.

Earlier in the thread, I stated that I had always assumed Rachael Ray was a lesbian. Here is video proof that I was wrong. VERY wrong. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRda_A4zXpI]YouTube - Rachael Ray Corn Porn - HOT![/ame] My bad.

Psst, your liberal is showing. Hey wait a sec.....Do you work for NBC?!?
-
Goooooooood morning!

It's not that bad, dude. Some people can't eat certain foods, like bread (I have some trouble with doughy foods), but some people can. Everybody's different. The band is around the upper part of the stomach. What it does is keep food in the upper part of the stomach for longer, making the person feel more full on less food.

I won't tell you who dies, but it's shocking!! Ah, I'm just screwing with ya! Never seen a single episode

Hey Watermum! Welcome to the site! I'm excited for you!
-
Welcome, Mary E! Come on in and take a look around!
-
I'm sorry to hear that, wvhjb44. There's no way I would have been able to afford the band if my insurance hadn't covered pretty well. Does your insurance cover ANY weight loss surgery? Perhaps if your doc wrote a strongly worded letter showing how much more money you'd cost the insurance company if the didn't cover a weightloss surgery?

Yes indeedy! If you are already having trouble keeping (or getting) food down, then you probably don't need a fill. You certainly don't get fills to keep you from "pigging out". The fills serve to keep hunger at bay between sensible meals. On some things, like holiday goodies, you need to minimalize your exposure....maybe just snack a very little on the goodies, but stick to the healthy stuff for the most part. So, maybe you do need a fill, if your band isn't keeping the hunger between meals at bay. But I wouldn't do it strictly because I was giving myself a pass from using some self control.
