Nah. There are several moderate democrats that are politically appealing to me. Again, we disagree here, and I could challenge, but that doesn't advance our new topic. That's true. They did what they said they weren't going to do: earmark the budget and increase the size of government. And they're paying the price this political cycle. And they should. But dang.....Obama's bill (and it is his, no matter what his spokesmen say this is not carryover spending from Bush) is a bitter pill for me to swallow. It's a huge gamble. It would be a shame if you had to consider outsourcing your computer work because your increased taxes meant you couldn't afford to hire Americans to do the job. Gee, just think if the taxes weren't so high, maybe you could afford to hire that American dude to do the computer work. That American dude would then use his salary to buy stuff and stimulate the economy. That's exactly how a lower tax model works. And, despite the hype about "having the rich pay their fair share", that's why raising taxes on businesses will hurt our economy in the long run. Actually, it's a longstanding tradition for the president to have somebody from the opposing party sit in his cabinet. Carter did it, Reagan did it, HW Bush did it, Clinton did it, and W Bush did it. Not directly, but keeping the Taliban from seizing control of a very unstable Pakistan (and its nuclear warheads) is pretty vital to our economy!! That's exactly the reason to send troops to Afganistan. Exactly.

I guess that would depend on the man, Shonda. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Or were you surprised that the majority of them owed taxes? Because I believe that's business as usual in Washington. RE: Afghanistan...you shouldn't be distressed. You should be reassured that he's not totally sticking his head in the sand. Granted, I don't agree with many of Obama's policies, but I think a presence in Afghanistan was inevitable, regardless of who got elected. Of course I was. But....he was your president too, ya know. Well, I haven't seen very many bipartisan actions yet, BJean. In fact as of right now, I can't really think of a single one. Of course, I don't mean that as a negative reflection of Obama as such....it's just something that every president does. Who was the last TRULY bipartisan president that you can think of? I can't name one in my lifetime. It will never happen. Because the two parties make the rules. They're not going to share their piece of the pie with independants. This is where we fundamentally disagree. I am pround right here and now of what my country stands for. I don't think America is about penalizing hard work and financial success, but that's indirectly what Obama is doing. "Fairer to the majority of Americans" is vague and subjective. To me, it means the government getting the hell out of the individual's way. Better schools and medical care? Great...but again, I think the government is only gonna muck all that up.

Just as a trivial tidbit.....On Redeye last week, Dr. Drew Pinski (sp?) was one of the guests (He's the guy that does "Celebrity Rehab" and "Sober House" on VH1). He said that he and his wife did IVF and got triplets. He went on to say that the docs strongly recommended that he and wife only attempt to deliver 2 of the embryos because of the necessary parenting demands. Dr. Drew and wife ended up having all 3......but he said it was almost impossible to do with 2 full time adults in the house. He said (in all seriousness) that if the state allows all 14 kids to live in the house with only octomom, then he predicted it would result in the death of a child. That really struck me, because it's such a strongly worded statement.

That's a really good point. I wonder how many embryos he would personally consider "too many" to be implanted? You can bet that planned parenthood and the ACLU will probably fight this tooth and nail.
