Apnea and will NOT use Cpap
plain replied to Lady Lap Band's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there, Gonna Lose It! Since you asked for opinions, I'll chime right in. I'm a registered polysomnographer (fancy words for a sleep therapist....I deal with sleep apnea and CPAP 48 hours / week, lol). One of the biggest myths in sleep medicine is that Obstructive sleep apnea is usually weight related. While that can be true for some people, new findings show that the overwhelming prediliction for sleep apnea is how your "airway" is shaped. In other words, it's usually genetic. So.......there's a slight chance that you might not need the CPAP after you lose the weight, but odds are that you will. Having said that, wearing a CPAP is really not much different than taking prescribed medication from your doctor. Without a doubt, wearing the CPAP is much better for your health (the risk of heart attack / stroke on untreated sleep apnea is like tenfold), but in the end, you have to make the choice. I know plenty of diabetics that aren't compliant with their medicines. It's their choice. Now, having said that, I should tell you that there is a "smart card" inside CPAP machines that give a detailed readout on if you've been wearing it, how long per night, what pressure, etc. So, be aware that if your doc has a rule that have to wear your CPAP 3 weeks prior to surgery, he has the ability to check and see if you've really been wearing it or not. -
To introduce myself......
plain replied to conniern98's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi connie. Welcome to lapbandtalk. Feelings of apprehension are totally normal, and for most of us there IS a period of "food appreciation" adjustment / mourning. As you move through all the prerequisites, you'll learn more......and there is a TON of informational posts on here. So pull up a chair and dive right in!! Glad to have you here, and good luck on your journey! -
Hahaha...yeah it's awesome to advance the diet. Beware, though.....my doc has all his patients do liquids the 1st 24 hours after a fill, then slowly advance the diet. 30 pounds is fantastic. Keep up the good work!

What's to learn? Throw it all in da skillet. Cooking lesson over. PS- Pink chicken or pork = bad.

Yeah, when I was younger, I was going to start a "Apathists United" group but my heart just wasn't in it.
-
I really liked Touch of Evil. It was a Hitchcock, right? Or am I confused again?
-
Does she have big boobs? Because, you know......some things trump!
-
Ok, I have "a friend" who happens to look like a certain Family Guy character when he's naked (*note - not Stewie) and it's really affecting his popularity at the neighborhood "swing" parties. Any advice on finding a leather studded thong that also conceals imperfections? *hugs diva for an uncomfortably long time*

Yeah! I thought you looked familiar! I voted for you! Sucks. But I know your new supervisor is a doushe, so....... Then it probably wasn't the budget he wanted to "argue down"! *zing* Sexual innuendo! It's my super power! Nobody reads what I post, so we should still be safe.

OOOps.....I guess I meant "the other left".

I have an orangutan named "Clyde" that takes care of that stuff for me.
-
Well, I split my time between polysomnography, male runway modeling, and freelance adventuring (looking for ancient artifacts, solving puzzling murders with my wisecracking sidekick, that kind of stuff).
-
Interestingly enough, that's also a prerequisite for being a sleep therapist. Sometimes it's a curse, though.
-
Ulp......Who's she talkin' to? I see dead people
-
Ditto, ditto, and ditto. I have gotten in the habit of keeping two Slim-Fasts in the fridge in case work is especially hectic and I can't find time to eat (I work 4 12-hr night shifts / week)

Dalton, Georgia anyone??
plain replied to 1RockinMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, RockinMom, have you tried posting this at the "local support groups" section? -
Hmmmm....Mac was a hippie? Shocking. Shocking, I say!

Nick will NEVER be able to top his multifaceted, subtle, nuanced character portrayal of Johnny Blaze in Ghost Rider. Cage got robbed of the oscar on that one.

Thanks for taking me off "block". I promise, no more genital pictures. Mmmmmmm.....bacon...... Cool. I have a bunch of life-sized statues that I call "friends", but they're not terra cotta....they're mostly burlap stuffed with straw and human hair. Anywho, they're great listeners and they never judge. *quietly puts toliet seat back "down" Yup, it's been called a "leg" before.

Oh.....yeah. Giggity giggity....

Slim, you sound like my wife......."You shouldn't be seeing a stripper, blah blah blah". What is her problem? :tt1:

Man, I was hoping for something a little more spicy. The next time you tell the story, can you throw in some nudity or girl-girl wrestling, or something like that? Thanks.
-
I don't know how to take that. I'll have to ask my pastor.

And yet, I feel it's a story that needs to be told. It'll either be funny and carefree, or could be used as a PSA, lol.
