Three things that are driving me absolutely BATTY in these forums!!
plain replied to Fanny Adams's topic in Rants & Raves
When I read Tommy O's comments, it made me laugh. Tommy, you are 110% libertarian!! Or are you an anarchist? I only thought I had a libertarian streak until I read some of your posts. If it's not too personal, is that your political party of choice (if you are even politically-minded at all)? :wink2: -
I tend to agree with Lovekatz and snowbird. There are very few people that would buy a car or have a major home repair done by blindly trusting what "some dude" said....yet that's essentially what's happening. I place more blame on shyster doctors that aren't educating their patients, but as snowbird put it - "Who gets an elective surgery without knowing anything about it".

I've always thought that a group of women have a much more difficult time working together than a group of men (I've worked in all male departments, and I've worked in departments where I was the only man). Sexist? Possibly.....but I think it's true.

Yeah. You totally need to report her. She's not your boss, and personal comments like this are not to be tolerated at work. Make sure to stress to your boss that by making these comments, she is disrupting the work team and lowering productivity (since time that could be spent working is being wasted on these inappropriate comments). "Out on a lot of Mondays"........How is that her business? "Should you be eating that".....how is that her business? Tell your boss that you feel these hurtful comments constitute harrassment, and ask what can be done.

I'm very sorry that your son is struggling with this, apples. He is a hero to have served his country so bravely. Now maybe with a little time he can transition back to civilian life.

Boo Boo Kitty's PS Journey
plain replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
BBK, you look great. The surgery looks painful as hell, though! I can see how you could get atelectasis / pneumonia very easily. -
As a guy, it probably is 50% afraid to say anything even vaguely as to how your body looks due to harrassment policy, and 50% afraid that any comment like that is a back-handed compliment, at best (ie, you look good now = you looked terrible before).

I just ate an entire bag of Oreo cookies...
plain replied to Abby Normal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Second what bandster said. Abby, You need to get ahold of these issues before you get banded. The band won't help with the urge to eat when you are not hungry (compulsive eating). And, sorry to be blunt, but.....eating an entire bag of oreos is not a hunger issue. It's compulsive eating. I'm sure everybody on this board has told you this at one time or another, but you have to do your part or you won't lose weight with the band. And, bottom line, why go through the cost and pain of getting banded if you know in your secret heart that you'll probably end up eating around the band? Anyway, I think you know all these things, because you sound like a smart person. The decision is yours to make. Good luck! -
This study is beyond illogical. They might as well say "capitalism is the source of global warming", except that Communist China is now the "dirtiest" country. *sigh* If only somebody would invent a workable electric automobile, then us fatties could truck in all the food we wanted, and still have a negligable carbon footprint. The posters that stated that public transportation is a joke were dead on. I live about 45 miles from where I work. Kind of hard to jog or bike that. It's impossible to even carpool, since I work nights. On an unrelated note, I'm giving serious consideration to buying a motorcycle...

All ya gotta do is just say what you want. He'll like your boldness. Even if all you say is something like "I want you now". And don't be afraid to give some direction if you feel his performance could be improved. If it's good for you, it'll be all the better for him.

Wow, Kathy. So the friend's daughter actually KNEW her rapist? Terrible.

Hey Fenton. My doc told me (of course) that whole food proteins were the first choice, and then look for mixes / shakes that had whey protein. But I'm looking at your counter, and.......you're losing great! As long as you feel good, keep doing what you're doing!!

Perky, I had that weird burp thing too. Your stomach is still very swollen right now. Like tpage said, walking really does help.

Three things that are driving me absolutely BATTY in these forums!!

Oh? I knew that a tolerance can develop to the CNS-stimulant effect, but I wasn't aware that a tolerance could be developed towards the diuretic action of any of the methylxanthines. Of course, it's been a loooooong time since I've been in school, so I could well be wrong. I did a paper on the use of caffeine in the treatment of BPD in newborns. That was back when sulfa drugs were all the rage ( J/K......I'm not that antiquated) -
Hypnogogic hallucinations and sleep paralysis can be strongly indicitive of narcolepsy. I read a fascinating study one that compared historical accounts of "demon visitation and vexation" and "alien abduction" with symptoms and effects common to narcolepsy. They make a very strong case!! Narcolepsy is (boiled down) a mal-coding of some brain Proteins. The symptoms can range from very severe to very mild. The most common symptom exhibited in all narcoleptics is fractured sleep, resulting in being frequently sleepy. Narco usually starts to manifest itself in the early to late 20's, but I've personally had a few narcoleptics in my lab that had no diagnosis until their early 60's! So, didn't maen to pry, or even to hijack the thread, but it sounds like you've some things maybe you should get checked out?

Jachut, keep one eye on the coffee consumption (assuming we're talking about caffinated). Caffine can be a pretty stout diuretic (but I think you know this. I've read some of your posts on food / nutrition and you seem pretty sharp) and can lead to fluid loss if taken to an extreme. -
Am I a good candidate if...
plain replied to suzie-ny's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Suzie. I think you're a good candidate for the band if you know how it works. The band is a wonderful tool to help you feel more full with less food. Perfect for a somebody like me, whose problem was the amount of food I would eat. However, there are limitations. The band isn't that great for what we call "head hunger" (When your stomach is not really hungry, but you want to eat out of boredom / emotion / whatever reason besides being hungry). Also, you have to be ready to eat healthier foods. There are ways to "cheat" the band, if you aren't really committed to losing weight (An occasional splurge is ok, IMO) In short, the band is a great tool, but only a tool. You have to do your part as well. Do the research, attend a seminar, ask questions. The band has been a Godsend for me, but it's not right for everybody. -
Do You? You know use that word!

Old thread I know, but I stumbled in. Green, I have never heard of the "Canadian" thing (but that doesn't make it any less valid). -
BII, ATD, and Mrs. FF.....you have all earned some very good karma (totally not any kind of religious comment whatsoever).

The house I grew up in didn't have central air conditioning. We had an attic fan (note to non-south members: Do other people have attic fans, or is this strictly a southern thing?). The sound of the attic fan running in the summertime was extremely addicting. When it got cold enough to retire the attic fan, it would take a few nights to adjust to the quiet.

Hey Watcher. Did you recently have any lab work done? Because it sounds like maybe they found you had a really short PTT (time it takes for blood to form a clot).
