I've posted this several times in other threads on LBT, But I'm a huge believer in doing bodyweight exercises (for those of us that have joints in ok condition). The lean muscle added from these exercises will bump up your BMR (so you'll burn more calories while at rest), you can do them in the privacy of your own home, and don't need any special equipment. Of course, you still need to walk to help burn off the fat. Sorry if I sound like a broken record.

Difficult day 13 on pre-op diet
plain replied to Jodi_620's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jodi 620, you are kicking ass!! WTG!! -
Welcome, BG. Did your doc sing What's New, Pussycat while he was banding (lame "Tom Jones" joke......I know, I know)?

Does the powdered peanut butter come packaged in a paper straw like a pixie stick?

Be careful to take some deep breaths every now and then, or you risk atelectesis (tiny air sacs in the lungs collapsing / consolidating.....can very easily lead to pneumonia). If it hurts to breathe deep , try doing a few deep breaths after you take a pain pill. In general, you need to try for 2-3 deep breaths every hour or so. Did the office give you an incentive spirometer ( weird looking breathing exerciser thingy)? They help.

I would be a little hesitant to go with an office that has shown total and utter disregard for the details. "Just go to any radiography place" - WTF?!? Like you can easily walk in anywhere and say "Gimme an esophagram and a large diet coke". Find somebody else that actually shows concern for their patients.

PB is not as hard on my system as vomiting, per se. On the very few occasions I vomit, it's terrible on me. The few times I've PB'd, it's more like a cough......and up comes the food. Is it bad for the pouch? I'm sure it can't be great for the pouch, but nowhere near as rough as true vomiting, IMO.

Lap Band Journey Came to Screeching Halt Today!
plain replied to singledad167's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't give up, PB.....there are a lot of PCP's that will write that letter for you. I'm still pretty steamed for you that your original doc won't do it (but he will use an anti-depressant off label....sure, that'll take off 100 lbs or so, right?) -
Seems like a minor thing upon which to end a friendship, but .....that's her problem, right? BTW, I love your name. Do you pronounce it in the cajun way ( A-bear )? I went to HS with a girl that was named Hebert, and her family had a sandwich shop that was awesome!! Just realized I tend to get a little off-topic. If you want to salvage the friendship with Renee (and to be honest....if she pouts over stuff this petty....I'm not sure I would) just ask her "Why are you mad at me? Have I done something that I didn't realize?". That puts the ball in her court, at least.

One would have to be a bit of a nutter in the first place to even go on Trading Spouses in the first place, IMO.

Hi MeiQa.....same thing happened to me after my band. I think your stomach is still swollen from the surgical procedure. My appetite began to show again with week two or so. make sure to drink your water (I realize it's an effort right now) so you don't get dehydrated, and enjoy having zero appetite for a little while.

I'd just laugh if I saw somebody wearing this shirt.....and secretly feel superior to them

I have my MySpace addy in my sig. I'm public, so feel free to snoop around. I actually recently took down a lot of old pics, but there are tons of new ones up (and I have a looooooong way to go before I get to the "after" of before and after).

Hey bux...keep in mind that if you are taking narcotic pain meds, that can "stop you up" as well. I highly recommend taking chewable fiber tabs (but, like somebody else mentioned, check with your doc first).

Fenton, the trashy highlights....ok. Do not, however, take RAS' advice and put on red lipstick and chap shorts!! LOL

Ugh. I felt like I ate the whole Memorial Day weekend! The scale says the damage is minimal, but I still feel like a big ol' piggy!! Hope everybody else had a great holiday.

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
plain replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Warning - This story is boring! Went very smoothly. I checked in at the reception desk and was called back to my day surgery "suite" (it's a series of 3 rooms. There's a little waiting room, then a bathroom, then the pre-op holding room). I met my nurse who gave me a gown to change into. He also gave me a preop solution to wash my torso with. So, after I'm in the gown (naked underneath, but modest gown....it was huge on me and that's saying something. I'm about 6'4 and was 355 lbs day of surgery) and then the nurse takes me into the preop holding room. I got weighed, layed down on stretcher and an IV was started in my hand. The bariatric surgeon poked his head in to chat for just a few minutes, then the CRNA poked his head in, and finally the anesthesiologist poked his head in. I wasn't the 1st case, so I had time to read a little and chitchat with the wife. About 10 minutes before surgery, I was given the opportunity to urinate again (no Foley catheter...Yay!). Right before surgery, I was given something in my IV that made me very relaxed (I can barely remember getting wheeled out of preop). I have some fractured memories of scooting on the OR table, and somebody putting the anesthesia mask on me, but the next concrete thing I remember is waking up groggy in recovery. The nurse told me I would be discharged when I could urinate, walk, and have my pain managed by oral meds. Bottom line, I was home by 2 PM. Easy. The next 2 days I was a little sore around the incisional area, but it was not very bad at all. I went back to work on day 4 with no problems. -
Well.....that just sucks, Fanny. At least it turned out to be not so grave, eh? I'm thinking maybe some advanced yoga contortions, and you can unkink that tubing easily!! LOL

Does the lapband make u not feel hungry or just cause quick fullness?
plain replied to massa36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not disagreeing with ATD, and I know the vagus nerve does impact appetite.....but I would question exactly how much the vagal pressure comes into play with the band. I know that the heart is one of the most vagal-sensitive organs on that nerve pathway (from my time as a respiratory therapist, I have seen many times vagal stimulation slow down heart rate considerably). I'd think if the band exerted much pressure on the vagus, we'd be seeing a lot more funky cardiac stuff. However, I'm NOT a doctor, could be dead wrong about this, and am a dumbass 95% of the time. The area of the vagal nerve that affects the stomach could be distal enough to the heart where you wouldn't get much cardiac effect, so......back to where we started. I've wondered myself about this considerably, and just had to throw this opinion out (hey, it's worth what you paid for it....LOL).
