Heather's Journey

Day 4 post op update- I am feeling pretty good. I have only had nausea the day after surgery, and only for a little while. The pain is minimal, although my right incision (where they took my stomach out) is pretty sore. I've been wearing a binder on my belly since surgery and I feel that has helped quite a bit. My doc only wants me focusing on clear fluids this week, so that makes it easy to meet my fluids goal (64 ounces). I gained 6 pounds after surgery, but have lost all of that plus another 5! And the best part is, I'm not even hungry! Definitely recommend taking small sips of Water, etc. bigger sips get stuck and are painful. TMI Alert- I was able to have a BM 2 days post op, thank goodness. Gas x strips definitely help with gas. Well, there is my update. I will update in a few days. -
5 days post op and I'm so ready to eat
losingtheselumps replied to DFernandez718's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm day 4 post op and haven't been hungry at all. I would definitely not take any chances eating prematurely. The last thing you want is a leak that could have been prevented. I am on clear fluids for this first week (Water, crystal light, sf popsicles, sf Jello, Powerade zero, and broth) It does suck when I'm cooking yummy (even healthy) food for the family and sitting at the table while they eat, but I know I'll be able to join in soon. Stay strong and remember why you had this surgery. You will be able to eat eggs soon. Just be patient. Good luck! -

Day two post op and feeling ok. I came home yesterday and took a few naps. Today, I'm feeling much better. The nausea and gas pains are minimal. Still sore but haven't had to take pain meds since I left the hospital. -

I skipped the middle man and went straight to the surgeons office. I found out my requirements from my insurance, found a list online of docs who accepted my insurance, then googled the names and looked up reviews. Found a doctor that stood out to me based on those reviews, and called to schedule an appt. After meeting with him one time, I knew he was the one! Look for someone experienced, who makes you feel comfortable and can give you confidence in him/her. Good luck with your journey. -
What's inside your hospital bag?

Seems like you have good essentials. Lots of people recommend chapstick, and maybe a mouth wash or biotene spray to moisten your mouth. Also, chargers for your electronics. Good luck with your surgery:) I'm one day behind you. -

Personal Questions for after surgery
losingtheselumps posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone. This is my first topic post. I have been lurking on this site for a few weeks, just trying to soak up as much information regarding the sleeve. Now that my surgery is getting closer, I have some personal questions that I was wondering if you all could help me with. 1. I have read that gas pains are pretty severe after surgery. Is there anything I can do before surgery, or during recovery, to help alleviate the gas pain? Some people have recommended gas relief strips, while others have said they don't work. Also, people keep mentioning shoulder pain with gas pain? Can someone explain this to me? 2. I have also read that constipation after surgery is a real pain in the ass (pun intended). I read somewhere that maybe taking stool softeners a day or two before surgery would help soften it up for after surgery. Can anyone attest to that? 3. How soon after surgery can we start to have sex again? Of course I will be asking my doctor as well, but would like an estimate. Also, how soon after surgery can I have oral sex with my hubby? I know we aren't supposed to drink out of straws after surgery, and that "act" is sucking. Would that cause any issues, or should I wait to do that? (Sorry, I know, very personal) 4. For the first two weeks after surgery, what should I stock up on? Right now, I love Premier Protein shakes. I like all three flavors, so I will be getting that. I also just ordered a sample pack of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury to see if I like that as well. I know I'll also need broths/bouillon. I'll also be making sure I get my Water in, which is a struggle for me since I am never thirsty (unless I'm eating something salty). Any tips on that? 5. Do I need a wedge pillow? Some people have recommended it. 6. Last but not least, any last minute tips? Do's and Don'ts? Anything that you wish you had known before surgery, or anything you think is worth mentioning? I really appreciate any responses. I apologize if I am repeating questions that have already been asked. I have tried to go through the forums, but am still learning how to work this site/app. I am done with all of my weight loss appointments, and am just waiting for approval. Thanks -
Two week liquid diet
losingtheselumps replied to hazelzay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure how accurate this is, but from what info I've seen, different doctors may choose different pre-op diets for different patients, depending on BMI, how big their liver is, and general health. I know some doctors don't even do a pre-op diet, and some choose what they find works best. Luckily, mine is only one week, with two protein shakes and one lean meal of 3 ounces meat, 1 cup veggies, and 1/2 cup fruit. I can also have broth/celery/and cucumbers if need be. And I can have a sugar free jello and sugar free Popsicle. Good luck everyone. I'm on day 5, and it definitely gets easier. I've been keeping myself busy, and that helps. -

That sucks, especially coming from your spouse. I'mm sure she has seen how much work you have put into this. It is a tool, and it does help. BUT YOU had to do work as well. I think it is probably her insecurities coming out. -

Two week liquid diet

I am on day 3 of my pre-op diet. The first two days, I had a headache, but I think it could have been because I wasn't drinking caffeinated coffee. Today, I did not have the headache. I have been low on energy, very tired, since I started. I know it's tough, but it does get better. -
