  1. Hi everyone! I'm sure this topic has been discussed, so I apologize in advance. I am almost 10 weeks out from surgery. I just joined a gym for the first time in a long time. I've been doing cardio, but I want to start a strength training routine and would like some guidance. This week, I have been doing some of the basic machines, but was wondering if people could share their routines to give me some ideas. Do you do a 3 day split routine? 4 day? I would like to start with a M-W-F routine and work all muscles, and then eventually break it up into "leg day", "back and biceps day", "chest and triceps day", "ab day" (all examples)... ANY guidance or advice would be wonderful. I'm 31 and besides being overweight, have full range of motion and no excuses. Thanks!!
  2. You're definitely not doing any damage. My surgeon also put mine on me right after surgery and said I could wear it as long as I wanted/needed.
  3. H everyone, I'm almost 10 weeks out and have been doing cardio since week 4 (besides walking around my neighborhood since surgery). I just started working out at a gym, and started light weights and machines last week. Can anyone who has a good gym routine help push me in the right direction as to how I should set up my own gym routine? I haven't been in a gym in years, although I pretty much remember how to work the machines. I'm 31, and in pretty good health (besides being overweight, obviously), so I can do quite a bit and have full ranges of motion. Any advice would be appreciated!!
  4. I used one after surgery for the first week or two. I agree, it helps when walking (keeps the jiggly in one place, lol). I have heard some people wear it to bed even after the first few weeks to help shape the stomach, but I don't know how much that would help.

800 calories ? IS IT ENOUGH?

Reaching your water goals everyday will also help "move things along". I find that the less water I drink, the more constipated I am. It will also help you lose more weight:)

    How long between each bite?

Wow! 1 - 4 minutes? That is the perfect example to me of how post-op directions and doctor recommendations in general are wide ranging. My surgeon just told me to take it slow - small bites, chew everything up good and put your fork down between bites. No specific timeframe. I think that would be especially stressful! It actually makes it easy for me. I have been able to pay attention to how I feel, and am able to eat less if I wait a minute or two between bites. I can pick up on cues that I'm getting full or satisfied a lot easier;) My doc says after the adjustment period, you can drop it to just one minute in between. 3 week Post Op HELP!

Congratulations on your 12 pound loss! That is great. Really, the only advice I can give is to stick to your doc's plan. Don't fill your house with yummy, tempting foods. Find food that you like, but healthy:) Eat SLOW. 1-4 minutes between each bite. Put the fork down every time. It sounded silly to me but once I started doing it, I could feel myself get "satisfied" and not finish off the plate because I knew I was "full enough". We aren't supposed to eat until we are full anyways. I was like you too, though, with the overeating. I always measure out 1/2 cup portion and use a small bowl or small plate. I also use toddler spoon/fork to help me take smaller bites. It's really all about finding out how to listen to your body. As with any change, it can be scary, but it is SO worth it. Good luck to you!

    Heather's Journey

Ok, 1 month post-op update. I consider myself one of the lucky ones who have been able to eat everything (on plan and healthy) with no issues. No nausea, no trouble getting stuff down, etc. Nothing has changed for me taste wise, everything tastes the same as it did before surgery. I have had no heartburn issues, although I do take prilosec every night, also before surgery. The bariatric Vitamins are disgusting (I got the capsules) so I will be trying to find new ones. I can't gag those down everyday for the rest of my life lol. So, time for stats. June 1st- Start of pre-op diet- 290 June 7th-Day of surgery- 276 July 7th- Current weight-253 I did hit the dreaded stall for a week and a half, but started slowly going down again (which I'm ok with). My only real struggle is trying to get my 64 ounces of Water in. I knew it would be a struggle since I am never thirsty, and was like that before surgery. I usually hit my goal or pretty close, but it is a chore. How is everyone else doing?

Surgery Date Set and I'm excited and terrified.

@@fancypants67 In January of 2015, I went for my first consultation for WLS. I had signed up and said I was gonna go through with it. Then, I backed out because I thought "I can do this on my own." I wasn't ready to give in.... Fast forward to December of 2015 and I hadn't lost one pound, hell I probably gained 5 pounds... I decided enough was enough, found a new doctor that I LOVE, and made the commitment this January. I was just sleeved 8 days ago and I'm so happy that I did. I really regret NOT going through with it back in 2015 because I could have been at my goal by now! I just wasn't ready. It's normal to feel that way, but you aren't quitting. You are admitting that you need help. This tool will help you get where you need to be to be healthy. Believe me, you aren't "throwing in the towel", because you still have to work at it. You still have to put effort into your weight loss, you will just have a tool to help you get it done a little easier:)

2 year mark (yeahhhh) and losing hair again

I don't know from experience, but I remember watching several youtube videos of people who were 5 years out saying they went through cycles of hair loss multiple times during the 5 years, and they offered advice on what helped. It seemed pretty common.

    what to tell the surgeon?

@@Valentina I did the same thing this January;) Not much has changed. I called my insurance and found out requirements and price, found a doc I like, set up an appointment and was good to go.

    what to tell the surgeon?

Hello and welcome! I was like you. 290 pounds with no medical issues, just overweight. Don't be nervous to tell your doctor about previous weight loss attempts. That just shows the struggle you've had for years with the up's and down's of your weight. He isn't going to say you shouldn't have it because of that. Telling him everything you have tried to do to lose weight will help him understand your struggle. I was approved with no problem after I met all of their requirements. Good luck with your journey!

Ok, Week one post op results: Day of surgery- 276 Day after surgery- 282 (gained 6 lbs during surgery) Current Weight- 263 I don't count the 6 pounds I gained and lost from surgery, so 13 pounds down from surgery in week 1. I'm definitely happy so far. Just minor soreness, no real hunger, and no nausea. Can't wait to see where I'll be in a few months. I just can't believe that two weeks ago, I weighed in at 290 (First day of pre-op diet, which was only one week).
