I had the Sleeve surgery on 11/23/16. As of now, I'm still on purée foods. On January 4, I will advance to a regular diet. Now, before I say this, I want to be clear that I am going to follow the doctor's food plan. All three doctors at the office have told me the same thing, so it must be a plan that works. With all that said, I am curious how many of your doctors' have told y'all not to count Protein or calories or worry about numbers? My doctors all said to focus on Beans, fruits, and veggies....or as they also said, Fiber FIBER FIBER (lol). I'm still allowed to eat meats, as long as long as beans, fruits, and veggies take up the majority of the meal/day. Also, I can still have rice, Pasta, bread, and tortillas (all whole grain, with the exception of corn tortillas occasionally). They recommend the program (which has 3 books, 1 being a cookbook) called Forks Over Knives, which is a plant-based meal program. Some of the recipes look awesome, but from what I've skimmed through and seen, it is vegetarian. I don't have to go by the book totally. But they said absolutely no counting because it is not necessary and they don't want this to feel like a diet because looking at it as a diet can cause failure, so not to stress it. What plans do you follow? Is anyone's similar to what I will be following? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Go to www.thedavisclinic.com (the website for the clinic he partners at with his father and my doctor, Dr. Primomo). There is a link on there somewhere that takes you to his FB page, I think if you click on him and click on his Blog, it goes to his FB page. I'm not really for sure if you can message him, I haven't tried, but I can tell you that he himself, my doctor, and the nurse practitioner there do lots of research before recommending a diet, and they are very selective of information the choose to pass on, but they are firm believers in the Forks Over Knives program. If you have Netflix, you can watch the documentary on it, they have 4 books they have put out, I have 3, and they also have an app for your phone that is $4.99 and has several recipes and they update regularly with more recipes. Dr. Garth thinks highly of them. You may also try to call the clinic at the number on the website and see if you can get an email for Dr. Garth. I was told he gives out recipes. I hope this information helps you!!

The doctor at my clinic wrote a book. The title is Proteinaholic by Garth Davis. He's had his patients following a MOSTLY vegan/vegetarian diet for years, and the look amazing! It is their choice if they want to become a FULL vegetarian/vegan and fully embrace the lifestyle. In the book, since I read some today, he basically stresses that in today's society, Protein has became too much of a major issue. Animal meats have it, there are supplements and powders and it's basically killing people. He had a health scare and it woke him up to this reality. He stresses there is no reason to add protein to your diet if you eat the right vegetables and fruits at the proper amounts for your body. The food is the fuel. All of us have different doctors, each doctor is different. What works for one person won't for another. My doctor's want me to ONLY worry about losing weight and choosing right foods and exercising as much as possible. As mentioned above, someone stated fruits, veggies, and raw nuts. All things in my diet as well. Forks Over Knives was a book they stressed to me. There are new approaches now that doctors are taking that use more earthly ingredients. And one of his patients is 3 years out and looks absolutely gorgeous! Other patients have raved about the success on his diet program. He gives you the ultimate choice to fully become vegan/vegetarian; if you still want small portions of meat, then it is fine. Carbs are a choice to have occasionally, not an every day basis. So now that I have studied his plan more and looked at lots of vegetarian cookbooks, and seen his patients results, I will definitely give this my all. I'm not even 3 weeks out yet and already had puréed Beans w/ jalapeño peppers. I love my spicy food and I had no trouble with it. Granted this doctor is not my doctor, but he works in the same clinic with his father, who founded the clinic, and my doctor partnered with them at the clinic and recommends the same diet because of the results and how healthy it is. I'm hoping it all goes great and will continue with confidence. I wish everyone luck with whichever diet you may be on. But please keep in mind not everyone will follow that same plan, as this is a newer approach that has been proven to work as well. We should all follow what our own doctors tell us to do. Happy Holidays to all!!!

I do know there are many vegetarian bariatric people out there because I've read many articles, but it is a difficult way to get Protein. But they said I didn't have to become full vegetarian, just to make sure my "stars" on the plate was veggies, fruits, and Beans. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I can still have eggs and cheese, Nonfat Greek yogurt, and FairLife milk. I asked about those. And I got GENEPRO to add to smoothies or other foods. I'm still going to cover my tush to at least get Protein. I'm just basically saying I was stressed not to count nutritional numbers. I wanted to see if my program was similar to everyone else's. Regardless, I have to follow their plan, he's my only choice of doctor and I have to drive nearly 6 hours to see him lol. But they have been doing this program many years, so I just hope it works. Something must be right if they are still in business and have nearly a 5 star rating. I was just a bit shocked is all. Still a bit lost as to exactly where to start on the bean portion. I've never been much of a bean eater lol. Guess I will learn. I have Beano on hand at least lol! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I think that is why they were so adamant on emphasizing that fruits, veggies, and Beans be like 90% of the diet. I know I heard those three words over 50 times each. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I admit I was shocked, but whole grain is okay in moderation by their program because whole grains are healthy. But I swear, exact words "we know you've probably been told that you need 60g of Protein, but let us be the first to tell you that is malarkey. you have no reason to diet or count. your focus is to be healthy and lose weight. other programs do that; ours doesn't." Those words are basically burned into my brain lol. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Thanks. I always heard the Protein was a big deal. But when all of them said counting protein was unnecessary and "malarkey" (their word lol), I was shocked. Other people were shocked when I told them my program. They said any fruit I want, any bean I want, but black Beans were best, and they didn't get into vegetables much, but I'm going to assume potatoes are a no, as I can't have white bread or wheat/whole wheat bread. Luckily, I'm not much of a bread eater, and Pasta is only on occasion. I assumed it was contradicting to several programs, which is why I had questions. But apparently from what I gather, he (the main doctor) has had lots of success with the program (he's vegetarian himself, but I'm still going to enjoy fish/seafood and a few other lean meats). I hope I do get good results. I mean, it will be nice to not have to count, but I had literally tons of low carb recipes saved up because that was my plan. Now I have to put time into researching this one. I just basically want to see if anyone else had heard of something similar to this. I did, however, get GENEPRO to add to fruit/veggie smoothies to cover my bases! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I tried joining the group since my sleeve is November 23, but it says no more members are being accepted. If it is okay, I would still like to join. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Feeling annoyed with my bf... need advice
Casds84 replied to krazykristen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't even go. It is time to focus on you. It seems like you have been focused on his kid and him and now that the attention is on you, he wants to act like a crybaby. What we are going through IS a MAJOR surgery. It is major and life changing. Maybe he knows how much more confident this will make you and isn't so supportive. I broke up with my boyfriend in February because he was very unsupportive and said, and I quote, "I won't be able to have sex with you because I will not be sexually attracted. I will have to have sex with other women and you will just have to deal with it since this is all your decision." Excuse me?! You are the weakest link, Goodbye! Sex with other women and me accept it...I think not. He didn't want me to get below 250, but actually said he would be okay with me being 1,000 lbs and actually wanted that (I was over 400 when we started dating)! So he was trying to set my goals and plan things for me that were my decision. I finally had enough. I am from Texas, the heat is atrocious, even with it cooling down. Take your time and heal. Exercise at your pace. Don't overdo it and get caught out and have no help because he seems like he would be of no support. You need to focus on you! This is YOUR TIME TO SHINE! I was so nervous about the cardiac clearance and stress test! And....all of the worrying was for nothing. It wasn't nearly what I thought, and I was cleared for that part of surgical clearance. I just have to have my endoscopy done on Friday, and then I have to set up my reassessment! Now the real nervousness sets in......I keep getting more nervous was time inches closer! Passed Cardiac Clearance!
Casds84 replied to Casds84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol, ok! Uncrossing fingers, but still wishing to hear those words in October that I am approved (from the surgeon). Then my major excitement afterwards will come when the insurance company approves! The neighbors will probably see me doing cartwheels and such, lol. Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration, but in my heart I will be doing cartwheels lol! Yes we are going to be winners!!! And as always, your cheery friend, Sassy Cassi! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Passed Cardiac Clearance!
Casds84 replied to Casds84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! I was so nervous this morning going in to take that stress test and felt like a bonehead afterwards because there wasn't much to it! It was so awesome to hear him say he was clearing me! Thanks for the well wishes on the reassessment and endoscopy. I was told that the only thing I may get from the endoscopy is a sore throat and that is it. So not too worried about that! Nervous About Stress Test and Endoscopy
Casds84 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
These are the last two things I have to have done before I see the surgeon again for a reassessment and approval. He wanted a cardiac clearance, which they did the EKG and an ultrasound of my heart. I go Tuesday for a stress test. I have a heel spur on my left heel that bothers me quite a bit, but I guess I will have to push through the pain on the treadmill. I know I can do it, it is just not knowing what to expect. And I go next Friday for my Endoscopy. So hopefully in October I can see the doctor and get the ball rolling even further. We are hoping to at least have the surgery done in December. Wow am I nervous now that it is getting to the last parts of my to do list. I guess you could say I am worried about what his final decision will be. I wish I wasn't such a worry wart! I've been trying to get weight loss surgery for 3 years, I need it to happen this time! Nervous About Stress Test and Endoscopy
Casds84 replied to Casds84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Phew, thanks! That SHOULD be ok on my heel. I'll just make them aware that I have that heel spur (again). My foot doctor actually told me to stay off treadmills, but I will make an exception for this because I need this surgery really bad. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Nervous About Stress Test and Endoscopy
Casds84 replied to Casds84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did see something about them doing nuclear stress tests, and the nurse said after she did the EKG that the doctor would be in to discuss what he wanted to do next. I asked her about any stress test, as I didn't go prepared, and she said it was all up to him. I had forgot to ask about the nuclear when he got in there because we got off on different topics, very nice doctor. I should have stayed more focused on my questions. I will see about it when I go back and see if I can do that instead. I would call, but it would take forever to get a call back. I would already be on the surgery table by the time they called to let me know the answer lol, and by then it would be too late lol! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Thanks! The cardiologist said "some light walking", but everyone I have talked to kinda giggled and said it will not be light walking. Something about they incline the machine and keep increasing the speed. I guess I shall see! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
