    Thursday is the day!

Right now......absolutely! Thursday morning....hmmmmm.... might be a different story. . I have been nesting for some odd reason and have run out of things to do. I am pretty sure that has been nerves. Overall I am excited and nervous. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  3. I can relate to you in that I had a 90 day weight management program required for insurance. Whenever I went to the doctors office I wore the same t-shirt and yoga pants (lightweight clothing.). I never deviated from that outfit. The people in the office probably think I have no other clothes. . I had to maintain my weight; I could lose but could not gain! It can be nerve racking and cause you to obsess over the scale. I even recall moving the scale to different areas to see if it would read differently. It did'nt. Like you I found the scales to be off by one or two pounds. What helped me was to schedule morning appointments when I would have to weigh in, weigh myself before going to doctors office and when they weighed me I could estimate how much the home scale was off. As I moved away from food being my comfort source I turned to group exercise which is great for comraderie. I usually stand in the back more so due to having two left feet, ( no coordination.). There was a point when I got close to the last weigh in and stressed ( consumed quite a bit of cheesecake.). After that I just watched what I ate. I can't say that I freaked out right before the last weigh in I more so got anxiety when my paperwork was submitted to insurance for approval. I think most people have experienced some kind of stress at this time. I think everyone on this journey going through the process experience some stress related anxiety at some point up until approval and the surgery date. I don't know if anything I said had helped, but congratulations on how far you have come on your journey and good luck. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Blue Cross Federal

I initially was told that once the paperwork is submitted it takes 4 - 5 business days. When my paperwork was submitted I got an answer in 5 days. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have BCBS Fep and I am scheduled for surgery 28 April 2016. There was a requirement for 3 months supervised weight management, which includes 3 visits with a nutritionist , and you must complete a full 90 days which starts with your first appointment with the nutritionist. You also have to complete a psych evaluation. Keep in mind there may be other test the physician may order. My primary care physician was able to provide documentation in regards to my weight loss efforts. In the benefits handbook I believe it is page 62 or 63 there is sort of a checklist that outlines requirements for bariatric surgery which includes bmi requirements and co- morbities. This is helpful. I would recommend someone going through BCBS Fep to also take a look at the brochures for Blue Centers of Distinction/Excellence that may be in their area. Hope this helps. 11. Hang in there!!! I am on the pre-op diet. I started 13 April 2016. Up until today I have done well with no issues but honestly I am really struggling to stick with the plan. I can have 4 Protein shakes, 2 Protein Bars, sugar free Jello, sugar free Popsicles and a banana or cup of milk per day. I think if I can get by today I will be in okay and just keep focused on the main goal as that surgery day is 28 April and I have come to far. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  14. For my program I have to visit with the exercise physiologist associated with the bariatric program. My first visit I weighed in, the specialist and I discussed my prior and current activity level, what type of exercise I liked. I answered questions then we discussed an exercise plan going forward. At the end of the appointment I was given an informational package with handouts. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Inova Fair Oaks Hospital

I am no expert or anything but based on my experience and in researching hospital programs I went with Inova Fair Oaks because they have a comprehensive program and it is a one stop shop. All my needs could be addressed right there in their clinic. They also are considered to be a Center Of Distinction with BCBS. For me the process was seamless and I felt that I had a lot of guidance. I did not want to find my own nutritionist nor did I want to have to find a licensed person covered under my plan to do an evaluation for the psych evaluation. This process is already overwhelming for me. In regards to the bariatric drinks I like the fact that they have a pre-planned menu per se. Especially now being in the pre-op diet phase as that it has been very easy to follow. I can only say research the clinics, review your insurance, understand your out of pocket fees with each, and decide what your comfortable with. I don't know that I said anything that was helpful, but others have been where you are including myself. Good luck on your journey. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  20. @@MamaRhea - I am on day 6 of the pre-op liquid diet. So far the diet had not been to bad. I am required to do 4 Protein shakes, 2 Protein Bars (both are bariatric advantage), I can have clear broths, up to three servings of sugar free Jello, and sugar free Popsicles. I also get to have a banana or a cup of skim milk per day. My favorite part of the day is when I eat my banana. I just did my final appointment with surgeon and nutritionist.....it just got real!!!!!. I was a little scared and nervous about this journey, but I am glad I made the decision. Approval!

Right now the pre-op diet is going pretty good. I have not really struggled with it and am pretty motivated to stick with it. I am allowed 4 Protein shakes, 2 Protein Bars, 3 servings of sugar free Jello, sugar free Popsicles, and 1 banana or a cup of milk per day. The banana is the best part of my day. I will be having laparoscopic surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
