Late June Sleeve Buddies?
Maggie143 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The other day I was craving so bad and had my first very serious hunger pains. I went over board and had 5 oz of yogurt I knew I shouldn't have but I couldn't help myself. I still don't feel good. I don't want a single thing to eat or drink and my stomach is sore. I am doing my best just to get my liquids in. My surgery was the 21st. 11 days in and I am so mad at myself. Something is going on with my leg as well. Thought I had a blood clot and went to get an ultrasound. No clot but I'm in pain. Feels like my vein is tearing out of my skin. I am a little miserable after doing so well. Anyone else cheat and what did you do to feel normal again? Also for those people going to 4th of July events - its our first holiday surrounded by social fooding. How will you handle that. I want to hear Tuesday when you get back to normal. -
Late June Sleeve Buddies?

Two people at work had a pain button and were getting morphine. I had the sleeve and hernia also. I didn't get a pain button or morphine. I got IV pain meds. Dilauden I wonder why? If you are getting gas in the shoulder its Phrenic nerve pain and can be relieved with warm tea or warm drinks and a warm shower. It can come and go for about 5 weeks. Happens when we drink and eat now as it forces that gas back up. So weird. I can relieve mine now with the tea, the showers or the heating pad. Jealous of your pill swallowing. I would love to get to do that. My surgeon said I have to crush for at least 6 weeks. Apple sauce and pills mmmmm I'll never look at applesauce the same way after this lol It is interesting how each surgeon seems to have a different plan for preop, pain meds, and post op plans. Speaking of applesauce, I get to add that to my diet today for first time, but I have taken whole pills since day one. :-) I have not been good about walking as it is so hot here. Have to drive to store or mall which takes longer than I walk BUT I am going to make myself do it. Any other suggestions for light exercise or movement? Since we aren't supposed to be doing anything crazy one of the things I have been doing is a water bottle in each hand and doing arm exercises. It helps me with the gas too and they said if you have a stationary bike at home to do a few minutes of that. I do have one. Also - house work uuuggghhhh lol but it is exercise. So I've been doing all my dishes by hand so I have to stand and sweeping instead of lifting the vacuum and laundry lol so not fun. Bet the mall is sounding better isn't it.... -

You are going to do great and smart to get that massage in tonight. Remember what your surgeon told you - walk, sip and sit up. IV will make you pee a lot so every time you get up to pee walk, then pee again before you get back in bed as then they will be taking vitals. You will have to get your rest when you can. Can't wait to welcome you back here with all your good news. Don't forget we want to hear everything! Kick butt tomorrow. xo -

Don't worry about the scale - your body is still swollen in the belly and adjusting to water intake and our new pouches Its going to happen and it will be good. I crush pills too. I have to have one horse pill which gets cut in half and taken twice a day. I am allowed to take it with a small amount of apple sauce so I get a Soup spoon, crush that nasty pill and pour it on top of a flat spoonful of apple sauce and then I chase that with a little water. Its the only way I can get that one down. The rest of mine are melts and one capsule. Pills really bug me! lol -

Mine too - same day. Yes everything did taste yuk for a while. When you get hungry you start not caring. Water is lovely now, with or without flavoring, my chicken broth is lovely but mostly everything else is gross. I bought this very yummy Protein for your water on Amazon. Its Lemon Razzy by NutriWise and you put it in your water and it has 15 grams of protein. The pink lemonade has 17 grams. Its really helped me since I have not wanted anything. For your information... https://www.doctorsbestweightloss.com/shop-by-brand/nutriwise/diet-cold-drinks-juices-tea.html Thanks for this suggestion, Maggie143! I had my sleeve surgery on the 21st of June as well, and I am not interested in eating anything still I hope the water flavorings help. Everything I eat (drink, whatever!) seems heavy and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Sipping water is the only thing that appeals to me at all. What a difference from a couple of weeks ago when I couldn't WAIT to eat! I just ordered the NutriWise water flavorings here on Bariatric Pal (well, they're Bariatric Pal brand, but exact same flavors and packaging) for less than at Amazon, BP also has a sample box of the different flavors plus a sample bag of all the Syntax Nectars that so many people like. I ordered them, hopefully I'll like some of them! I hope you're doing well, I had kind of a 'blah' day yesterday so I got up this morning and am going about my day with a bit more purpose...I've got to shake this yucky feeling from the lack of food. Today was my tough day - I woke up and didn't have anything on time and I felt like I could get sick. It was the first time I've felt that bad since surgery day. I hope the flavorings help you too! Let me know which ones are your favorites and I'll get those too. Now you're helping me! Thanks for that. I didn't realize they had them here and cheaper. So happy about that. Dont forget on these low calorie days to get substance in like Protein Shakes and broth. They are only 70 calories so that is really too low to just have the waters in a day but it does help when you want nothing. Tomorrow going to put it in the nutriblast with milk, ice and Protein Powder and see if it tastes like a milkshake. That would be a good way to get in a lot of protein. 24 from the powder, 15 from the mix, 7 from the milk. That would be pretty awesome. -
Day 8 Pre Op Liquid Diet
Maggie143 replied to LACRACRA2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing great! It could be a little water retention. I buy those little crystal light drops and love them. Its ok to have that. There is no calories. The other thing I just got which might help you for when you get through surgery is NutriWise Protein drink enhancers. They are powder that you put in your water. 15 grams of protein so when you don't want a thing but have to get your liquid in - they are a life saver. I bought the Lemon Razzy and it was really good. I also purchased Bariatric Choice drink enhancers. The blue raspberry wasn't so good but the berry was really good. Also 15 grams of protein. I hope they help you. I bought them on Amazon. Can't wait to hear your good news - you're almost there! -

You are doing great! The cold water helps your swollen stomach but I do agree the room temperature was easier to get down. Keep us updated on your progress. We are learning a lot from each other here. -

I am so sorry - I hope this resolves quickly. Don't give up. Maybe there was a requirement that was missed or something and that will fix this. Fingers crossed!

Hey there - I had BCBS too. They require the 6 month classes which are really good (1 a month and 3 life skills). You learn a lot about living healthy and how to take care of yourself. Each class is about an hour. You get a referral from your primary care or what ever doctor suggested this to you. They send that letter to your surgeon. You don't need written proof of your diets and the surgeon discusses this with you and decides if the surgery is right for you. Then you start your classes, see a psychologist who makes sure you are doing this for the right reasons and mentally healthy, you get a stomach scope to make sure you don't have any other issues, you visit the sleep/lung doc, the heart doc for a check up of your heart to make sure your body will be able to withstand the surgery and the weight loss, then to the nurse practitioner for blood work, then back to the surgeon for your final appt and more blood work and pick up your preop diet materials. After that the insurance company approves your surgery after a letter from the surgeon stating you have completed your requirements. It sounds like a lot of work but its not and its worth it. It goes super fast.

Day 8 Pre Op Liquid Diet
Maggie143 replied to LACRACRA2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its going to be ok. You may or may not see it right away but its going to happen. Stick with it. If you don't, everyone else here will tell you... you'll be sick and you will be hurting and you will be sad. I'm one of those people who doesn't see the loss right away and then boom 2 weeks later I've lost weight. I followed my pre op and only lost 7.5 lbs. But... that being said I was already changing my habits since February. Now that I'm post op I'm seeing the lbs come off just a little quicker but I'm also getting about 400 calories a day. Drink as much Water as you can, take your Vitamins and follow your diet. This is what is going to keep you healthy following your surgery. Kick butt! -
Gas Pain starting again 2 weeks after Surgery- Suggestions
Maggie143 replied to indgrip's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is the gas in the belly or the shoulder? I'm still getting it in the shoulder but the only time I get it in the stomach is if I'm consuming my liquids too fast. I can help you with shoulder pain but if its stomach waves I just slow it down on my drinking and walk. Movement always takes care of the gas. I'm so sorry you are hurting! -

At this point you should be on full liquids. how come you are still on clears? you are probably miserable. me personally, I went through a range of emotions but I'm doing good now. I guess at times we are still going to question this life changing thing we all did together which would be normal. Don't fret. This too shall pass and you are probably starving! I'm so sorry. Call your doc or nutritionist. I bet you should be having full liquids now. -

Sounds so good. Cream of wheat - really wet. Oatmeal also really wet like you can drink them. Add cinnamon and sweet n low and it tastes pretty good - just the texture is gritty on the cream of wheat but it will help the hunger. It took me an hour to eat a half of a cup. I'm 9 days post op and not able to start puree until after my doc appt next week.Im 2wks post op tomorrow and I can only have clear liquids. Wish I could have cream of wheat or oatmeal but can't until my post op appt. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App CF I am on Full Liquids. You should be on full too 48 hours after your surgery. They said as long as you can sip it through a straw (but never use a straw) that it would be ok and to strain soups if you eat them. -

Brilliant minds think alike! I had my pedi yesterday So what kind of creamed soups are you having? I could use suggestions. I can have those too. Are you doing bariatric soups, something you are making home made or from the store. I am not a fan of creamed soups but might like yours! lol -

Glad to hear it ccflotron34. It is hard to get your Water in first. sip every 2 to3 minutes. I got that from Mayo Clinic gastric sleeve page and it really helped me. You aren't expected to make goal yet. 30 in a week is actually good. your stomach is swollen. It takes a bit to go down. I'm post op day 9 and fluids are just starting to get pretty easy and I'm actually getting hungry. -

Thank you! I am 9 days in. Starting to get hungry again and fluids are going down quicker. Trying to find creative ways to get the Protein in when I'm still in Full liquid - so if you have any suggestions - send them to me!!! Thanks for thinking of me. I hope you are doing well also. Are you far from Wilmington?
