aimlagana posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone. I'm looking for anyone that might be in the Harford County area that would be interested in getting together to walk/run together in the HC area. Strictly friends only, please. Happily married :biggrin2: The more the merrier. -
Please help..I'm banded, but I've lost my motivation completely
aimlagana replied to Mysticalks's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Kara, This is such a coincidence! I'm in the same boat. I was just trying to search for others that were banded in October. I was banded on 10/23/07 and am down 52 pounds / 60% but I'm hitting a brick wall. I just don't feel the drive and motivation that I did in the beginning. I can't quite put my finger on what my problem is. Up until two weeks ago, I was plugging along. Eating decent and doing cardio for an hour everyday. Maybe we can help each other get back on the horse and just need some additional support. For tomorrow, I am committing to staying away from sugar. Let me know how I can support you. All the best, Aimee -
Congrats! I wish you all the best and am sure that you will be happy with your decision. Best of luck, Aimee

This is fabulous! Keep up the good work.

Hi Choopie! It shouldn't be much longer. Keep moving/walking as much as you can. That will help work it out. Take Care, Aimee

Hi everyone! I'm so bored with my daily Protein choices. Any suggestions. I'm against the protein bullets. Have tried every brand under the sun and they all taste AWFUL to me. I try to keep my diet simple...it works best for me. I ate plain cans of tuna frequently, morning Protein shakes, plain crabmeat, plain chicken. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Denied again by united healthcare, need help
aimlagana replied to tcbeau's topic in Insurance & Financing
Hi tcbeau. Walter sounds like he can be a great resource but I thought that I would offer my two cents. Co-morbidities can be broad. Think about your joints? Does your back or knees ache? This is a co-morbidity. Have you sugars and blood pressure checked. Borderline diabetes and hypertension are common co-morbidities in overweight individuals. Sleep apnea is also another one. Do you snore? If so, it's probably worth a sleep study. I would also find out what you BMI needs to be (usually 40) for the Insurance company not to require co-morbidities. Best of luck, Aimee -
Hi there. If you are interested in WLS and want to make sure that you choose the insurance that will cover it, you should check the summary plan description. This will give you the specifics. Best, Aimee

Libra, we all fall down. Your honesy is refreshing. The important thing is that we get back up and learn a lesson from it. Stress is a very difficult thing to combat. I try to workout everyday and sometimes twice a day in super stressful situations. I find it helps. Best, Aimee

New...and from florida
aimlagana replied to dolly_lala's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there. I had a similar situation and our measurements are just about the same but I'm 5'3". I never went to see my PCP on a regular basis but was able to provide the documentation to my insurance company by going by to the docs that I had seen over the year and showing my weight history. I had a view visits to our local prompt care center and one visit was even to the GYN. I think if your weight flucuates, it just proves your case more. Based on your weight and height, I believe this will put your BMI at 40+ which usually means for most insurance companies that you do not even need to demonstrate co-morbidites. The joint pain that you experience is a co-morbidity. If you are borderline diabetic, have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, back pain these are also work in your favor. Best of luck on your journey and I hope that some of this is helpful. -

My sisters both had the gastric bypass and I've had the lapband. My doctor told me that if you are a sugar addict, the band probably isn't for you. With the bypass, you experience malabsorption and you eating sugar makes you sick. Whereas with the band, you can eat around it and defeat it by loads of sugar. I don't want to quote the doc as saying this but my perception is that the bypass tends to be for the people that have alot to lose. I had 80 lbs and I am a sugar addict but I've been able to lose 50 lbs and curb my sugar cravings. One of my major deciding factors was that the lapband is reversible. The bypass is not. Once they remove that portion of your stomach, it cannot be reattached. The band can be removed, if need be. Best of luck on your journey! -
Uplifting and Positive Thoughts ONLY . . .
aimlagana replied to SanDiegoPhotog's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I so agree with you. I thought to myself the other day, I am a good person and a wonderful mother and I believed it. I was able to keep my mind from wondering and discrediting the good efforts that I put forward in life. Life is Good and I SO believe it. I feel blessed beyond belief. All the best, Aimee -
Slim-A-Bear and Skinny Cow are good. Not 100% sure that they are no sugar added but believe so. Sugar free popsicles usually kill the craving and they count towards your fluids too. Only 15 calories! Best, Aimee

I can be so simple at times! I meant my DAUGHTER. Like my doc but have no interest in being that close with someone that has seen what my insides look like.

Following post-op food list, before being banded?
aimlagana replied to ReiterDR's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi there. My nutritionist recommended that I begin in pre-op. It makes life after surgery so much easier because you are already use to the adjustment. It also shrinks your liver which is a good thing. I saw the instruments that they use during surgery and decided that anything that I could do to make it easier on my body, I would do. Do you have a nutritional plan? I'd be happy to share the one that they gave me with you. I'm 8 month out and 50 pounds lighter. Only 39 more pounds to go. Best, Aimee -
How do you handle emotional eating?
aimlagana replied to AnnieMae's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi. I try to focus on two things. Water and my hobby. For me, if I drink enough water, I can't even begin to think about eating another thing even when I am wound up. The other are my hobbies. Whether it's gardening, exercising, etc. My daughter likes to call me a hyper-gymnasium now. I hope this helps. Best, Aimee -
I'm 8 months out and when I was banded back in October, you could get on their website and get a free sample. Maybe TMI :-) Any how, I don't care for their products at all. Everyone has different taste preferences but it's a no for me. Best, Aimee

Hi. I've have similar meetings on a weekly basis. No one in my office knew about my surgery either. I eat much earlier than the others on my team and they have grown accustom to my habits. In a pinch, I have ordered soup. Take care, Aimee

This is fabulous! Congrats! These are the things that make the band so worth it. I've spent the weekend riding my bike, running and playing with my doctor and feeling great. Be well.

Hi Sue. The plan my nutritionist gave me accounts for: 4-5 servings of Protein 2 servings of vegetables (non-starch) 2 servings of fruit (carbohydrates) 2 servings of starch (carbohydrates) 3 servings of fat The only thing I would add to this is to make sure that you are getting in the protein before moving on to the other categories. Take care, Aimee

Choking during sleep! Need advice!
aimlagana replied to BansterNYC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Please call the doctor. This doesn't sound normal. I have sleep apnea and I feel a similar choking (but more of a shortness of breath). Best to check with the doc. It could be allergy related. Take Care. -
3 months out & SO frustrated with lack of weight loss!
aimlagana replied to drewsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As frustrating as it is, you have to be patient. I was in a similar pattern. Losing a pound a month for 4 months. So frustrating. I took a long, hard look at what I was/wasn't doing and had to make some life adjustments. I also wasn't properly restricted. If your reflux is bad, talk to the doc. He/she needs to know. There is medicine to help and it works really well. Take Care and know that easier times are coming!
