I have read research that says that you can lengthen your "fertile" part of your cycle by taking 100g of Vitamin B6 and also supplementing with B1. From my understanding it balances out your progesterone and hormones. Might be worth looking into further.

Keto stick test - do we remain in ketosis post op?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to trekker954's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Once you are in ketosis, you can stay in ketosis post op if you keep your carbs under 50g... You will push yourself out of ketosis if you go above that or have sugars.... this includes natural sugars. -
You could tell her you are having your gallbladder out, appendix or something like that. Just incase (god forbid) you need extra time off, at least its somewhat close to the truth and you can get a doctors certificate noting you need additional time off.

I mean exactly that.. proper medical advice that is not a personal opinion on what should be done... that has actual medical or scientific data backing it up.. Like the example i gave earlier... not eating solids early out... we know that eating solids can cause leaks, tears and other complications... however i have seen people say something "soft" won't hurt... and at 3 days out... it can! Im not saying we need scientific papers as proof... im just saying that the advice for newbies should be more "concrete" as this is a risk to their health and well being if it is incorrect. Also, there is a difference between giving advice and sharing experiences... Sharing experiences is fine.... but giving advice regarding something specific should be correct and objective, or a suggestion of possibility if unsure... -
Hair loss - can anyone suggest supplements?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to jadec86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No problem.... i just thought i would point it out... last thing we want is for other issues to happen because of an innocent looking brazil nut lol Anything in excess has the potential to cause issues.. everything in moderation ???? -

I have a feeling that this "advice thing" is becoming a pet peeve of mine. Who exactly decides what is "wrong" or "right" advice anyway? As far I can see there simply is a whole truckload of conflicting advice/rules out there because there is no real standard available on diet, pre-/post-op regimen etc. Simply compare the rules/advice your own surgical team gave you with any other member who got surgery at a different hospital and you will notice that at least some rules will contradict each other. So talking about "giving wrong advice" is IMO very difficult because in the end who exactly decides what is wrong and what is right? It doesn't fit our own view of the bariatric world so it must be wrong? Can't be that simple, or can it? Let me clarify what i meant... Advice as in solid concrete advice backed by medical data/known knowledge.... not someones interpretation of what should be done because of their personal opinion... Eg.... eating solids 3 days out, overdosing on Vitamins that cause physical harm, or doing something against their surgeons instructions etc There is very big differences in plans... and everyone should stick to it.. if they have a question, medical advice should be sought from their practitioner not some random person on a forum. (You can supplement advice given here, but confirm with your practitioner if its okay) Eg. We were allowed purees as soon as we were discharged from hospital, but i would never tell anyone to stray from their own plan, even when i know it was safe for me to do so. I have done this in the past... i always take the advice given and confirm with my surgeon that its okay.... Unfortunately some people nievely take all advice as truth and that can be a problem with so many varying opinions.. its just plain dangerous to do so. -
Dairy allergy....how to get protein?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to Dk370's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah.. it does taste horrible lol.. i threw mine out. You are 10 months out and only managing 30g of Protein a day? That seems unusual to me. What are you typically eating? Are you having a balanced diet? What health issues are you facing besides the milk allergy -
Dairy allergy....how to get protein?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to Dk370's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could try a pea Protein powder.. the one i tried was pretty gross... but there might be other better ones where you are... there wasn't much variety where i brought it from. How far out are you? I am 3 months and i try not to get alot my protein from dairy.. i try other sources (i'm a big believer in too much of one thing is not a good thing) -

Everyone has the right to post... everyone is at a different stage... and people need support and advice in those different stages. I never agree to posts being rude, mean or plain judgemental. But this "we need to keep everyone happy" attitude is what is causing the friction. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, as long as the delivery is done with respect and empathy. Why should i suffer and not get support during my "stage" because of one or two individuals... why should we not be supported because of them? I have seen newbies be rude, ive seen vets be rude, ive seen people in the middle be rude. Why not chasitise those actual individuals instead of labelling the whole GROUP? All the vets i came to rely on for advice are gone, some of the "newer vets" give conflicting or inconsistent advice, the newbies are giving advice to newbies who are also giving advice that is incorrect or inconsistent. My point is that we need a balance... We need newbies, we need vets, we need to be grown up adults who can be respectful and kind, but who can give us correct and helpful advice. I try to be respectful in all my posts i monitor MY tone, MY delivery and try not to be offensive, but i still give my honest opinion.... why can't we all just do that? I also try not to jump to conculsions, this is the written word, there is no tone... if i feel a post is rude, i will clarify first that this was the intention... most of the time the person was not being rude at all... i just took it that way... Lets behave with respect, integrity and empathy just like we should as humans and adults and stop this blaming bullsh!t and focus on what is important.... building a healthy body, having a healthy mind and living a long happy healthy life. Achieving this is made easier with all you guys... so why are we bloody fighting each other! -

Has anyone noticed that there aren't as many vets around anymore? Or that most of the posts of late are all questions relating to pre op or early post op topics? Unfortunately it looks like this "newbie versus vet" topics that have been occuring of late have completely changed the dynamics around here.... how unfortunate. As a newbie AND a vet, there isn't much that interests me on here anymore. The variety of topics have diminished... i can not access the vet forum, yet i am having "groundhog day" topics on the main board.... Its a shame that things have changed so much... -
Hair loss - can anyone suggest supplements?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to jadec86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You should be VERY careful not have too much selenium.... it is very toxic in large doses... 2-3 brazil nuts is plenty, Which is around 150mcg... a daily minimum requirement is around 55mcg so 3 nuts is triple the minimum requirement. Toxicity symptoms include: hair loss nail loss diarrhea skin rashes fatigue irritability nervous system abnormalities Anyone thinking of mega dosing, DO NOT DO IT.... you could seriously damage your nervous system. -

Need Help With Working Out / Training - Clueless.
NeedaBreak4Me replied to Huntingnurse's topic in The Guys’ Room
I know this is posted in the "mens room".. but ill put my 2c worth anyway. If you have not been exercising you should build up to it, otherwise you will be sore and could possiby injure yourself if you do too much too quick... Start by doing cardio, walking and a pace that is vigorous enough that you have to slightly catch your breath to have a conversation... Then once this gets easier increase the incline and speed.. when you get to the point that it is no longer a struggle, alternate between cardio and weights... Aim to exercise 4-5 times a week, allow yourself 2 rest days, preferably after your weight training days. If you can afford it, perhaps meet with a personal trainer to create a plan for you... and to teach you to lift properly and give you the right amount of repetitions for each target area. If hiring a trainer is not possible... invest in a range of hand weights, dumbells, kettlebells and resistance bands....( there are literally hundreds of videos on youtube that have info on what to do and reps required.. just search for the target areas... bodybuilding.com has some good advice too. -
Oh The Infamous 3rd Week Stall
NeedaBreak4Me replied to reducer623's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I completely agree with @@Dub on the point of not "embracing the stall" But at 3 weeks, there is nothing to embrace, its normal and natural for your body to have a panic after surgery, you are swollen, you have been cut, stabbed and had your insides played around with. Give yourself a break and allow yourself to heal properly... follow your plan, walk gently but consistently, get your fluids in and focus on not getting dehydrated... the weight will come off when your body is ready. Once you are past healing and eating solids, hell yeah... go crazy and work that butt off to break a stall. -
I must be abnormal.... mine have been late ever since surgery... ive changed from a 28 day cycle to a 6 week cycle!

Oh The Infamous 3rd Week Stall
NeedaBreak4Me replied to reducer623's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Don't be too hard on yourself... this will not be the first or last stall.. we do not lose at a constant rate... For me... i stay the same for a week or so, then have a drop, rinse and repeat... Stop stressing yourself out it is counterproductive... you will only stress yourself out and drive yourself nuts!... you are a lower bmi so weight loss will be slow and steady... every pound adds up in the end.. -
Most worried about ...
NeedaBreak4Me replied to NewAdventure2016's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also have told no one but my immediate family... But at 3 months out, you can't really tell... just looks like i eat small portions.. I've been to work and social events, dinners, funeral, engagement... i survived by saying i was doing low carb high Protein... its believable and no one questions. Excuses for 3 weeks out is difficult.. especially if you are on liquid.. Some excuses.. - you are not hungry -you are on a diet -you are observing a religious fasting ritual -stomach bug -doing a fast for charity -on a liquid juice fast to loose weight Thats all i can think of right now... maybe others have a more imaginative excuse. -

I had no loose skin by the time i got to goal when i had my band. What helped me was doing resistance training, keeping my skin moisturised, staying hydrated. You do not need to lift weights, you can use a resistance band, do squats, lifts etc using your own body weight... there are lots of youtube videos that can help. Here is an example of a good one for arms.. https://youtu.be/hAGfBjvIRFI
