Had my band converted to sleeve yesterday!

I think everyone is different... for me it when i am feeling content with the amount ive eaten, which depending on the density is around 1/4 a cup for meaty soft foods and 1/2 a cup for mushy purees... its hard to explain but its a comfortable fullness. I made a major mistake last night where i tried to eat one extra bite.... it took me over the edge and i felt soooo uncomfortable

Had my band converted to sleeve yesterday!

I promise it gets easier.... i thought i would never be able to meet my Protein and Water... especially water... but after about a week it got a lot easier once the swelling went down. Its a stressful time for your body... emotions will be out of whack.. be kind to your body and give it time to heal Im 3 weeks out now... i cant even tell ive had surgery until i eat... the only reminder i have is when i feel i have had enough food... i know. Hang in there... promise it'll get easier

    Awful gas pain

Walk as much as you can handle.... the more you walk the quicker the gas pain will go... I has really bad gas pain when i had my band years ago.... when i was sleeved i forced myself to walk as soon as i could.... literally every hour i would do a couple of laps of the hospital floor and i had none this time...

    Gaining weight

Yeah so was i.... and ive learnt that it only was causing me stress which we don't need with a already stressed post op body. I decided week 2 that im going to stay off it till my 1 month anniversary, i was becoming an obsessive crazy woman lol

    Gaining weight

Hey.... Im 3 weeks post op... and my weight jumped around all over the place... its normal. When all the veterans say stay off the scales at the beginning i was doubtful... but yes... its true... now that i am eating soft foods.my weight has finally started moving down... Im going to give you the same advice that was given to me. .. put the scales away.. and focus on healing ☺

    Suggestions please

I think this surgeon needs some serious education on nutrition!! Eating an apple does not give you complete nutrition, and by eating so little one would completely stuff up their metabolism! Eating mindlessly all day is wrong, im not sure if he meant it in that context, but meeting your daily calories and macros is important for health in general. If the slower weight-loss is a concern for you, perhaps reevaluate what you are eating, are you having something that "seems" healthy but truly isnt? It could be a small tweak that makes a world of difference. What do you eat in a typical day?

    newbie here with some questions

I dont understand the whole insurance process in America... but.... like others have said.... try to appeal and fight for your right to choose. Ive got a few posts regarding my band story... but i will give you a summary... I had the band for 6 years... yes i lost weight... yes i maintained my weight... then my band decided to play up during the final year and because i was basically starving. . I asked for it to be removed, i was constantly in pain or vomiting (not real vomit, but sliming every time i ate). When i had it removed, i gained most of my weight back, even though my diet was extremely good. This is very common.. I now have the sleeve and it is soooooo much better... i have restriction without the pain and vomiting. However, if you appeal and they still say they only offer the band, I personally would still do it... purely because its better to have lost weight while you can, than develop all the health issues that come with being obese. Thats my 2 cents ☺

Yeah i know!! I had my sleeve done on the 20th April and have lost 22 pounds (10kg) so far.... but i have been very sensible with my eating and physical activity... my focus is on healing right now. I know people lose much more during this time, but i am also considered a "lightweight".. so weight loss will generally be slower than someone who has more to lose

I was thinking that is awesome..but rare lol.. i was watching every morsel that i ate, didn't eat any junk, nothing processed or any sugars and i gained weight.... hence why i ended up getting the sleeve... I think i reset my metabolism by eating little for so long, that whenever i ate, no matter how healthy and clean i gained weight. I am losing slowly compared to virgin sleevers, but i am losing which is a start. Its frustrating but any loss is still a loss.. which is progress

    Week 3

Lucky you for not gaining weight... thats so common when the band is removed. I must say even though it's still early days for me.... the sleeve is so much easier than the band... i feel "normal" when i am eating, i just get fuller on less. I am on the soft food stage now... i wish the sleeve was offered when i had my band originally it would have saved me so much suffering... my band actually worked for a few years.. then during the final year it became a diva lol

My doctor initially recommended the bypass.... i declined and choose the sleeve for that reason. My body already hates Vitamins and i did not want to take vitamins for the rest of my life because of the bypass. My logic is.... ill choose the most nutrient dense foods possible and if i have issues down the track i can supplement if i must.

    Coworkers...

You will get there.... in a couple of months once you develop good habits... you probably won't want those things.... but i am proud that you recognise your triggers... thats the starting point to overcoming anything ☺

    Surgery Day!

Good luck!!!! I wish you the best of health and recovery

    Coworkers...

I dunno... ill play devils advocate here.... I can understand how it might be a good idea to avoid trigger foods during the weight loss phase, however i think that life is meant to be enjoyed, we can not deprive ourselves forever... there will be times when one cookie is okay.. or a small slice of cake.... everything in moderation... It takes time to learn new habits and yes... i agree whilst in the losing phase we need to avoid our trigger foods, but we also need to educate and teach ourselves control... life is meant to be lived.... not to be spent on a diet.... its a lifestyle change. *silently waiting for someone to shove a box of Cookies in her mouth because of this post * ☺

Yes.. i plan to do the shots every three months. I have been managing it for a couple of years mainly through diet, and plan to do the same now that i am sleeved. I try to eat spinach, kale and greens to get my folate, i stay away from fortified foods .. basically if it doesn't come out of the ground, sea or from an animal i won't eat it. My bloods have been perfect for years, my doc says i am a skinny person in a chubby persons body. My weight gain hasn't been from eating junk... i believe is from screwing up my metabolism from my band... i practically starved for 6 years.. so as soon as i eat anything i gain... What type of MTHFR are you?
