I so wanted to punch him in the face! I visually did in my head! Its funny though.. this came from the skinniest lanky dude who has never probably weighed more than 120 pounds in his life... I can't help thinking if he is this rude to me... what does he say to people who are much larger... if i wasnt so angry i would actually pity him for his arrogance

Post op 5 days and not drinking enough liquids..help!
NeedaBreak4Me replied to Aliel84's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Its normal to not reach all your liquids this early out. Are you counting your broth and shakes as liquid... cause they count too (my clinic does count them) I am 4 weeks out now... and i am getting all my liquids in.. like others have said... try different temperatures.. add something to your Water to break it up.. i added mint and a dash of lemon juice... that helped.. or sugar free water flavour. If tap water is too harsh... try bottled water like evian or alkaline water. Take small sips, let it settle in your mouth and slowly swallow... -
How much of your stomach was removed?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to Lisa_85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The bougie is a measuring tool in the form of a long, thin, flexible tube. The surgeon uses it as a guide when dividing the stomach. During surgery, the bougie is put into the mouth and pushed down through the esophagus and stomach to the pylorus. The tube creates a bulge inside the stomach that the surgeon uses to guide the stapler when dividing the stomach. After the sleeve is formed, the bougie is removed from the body. -
Ive had a cold for the last week and a half... i called the surgeon's office to confirm and basically as long as it isn't NSAIDS... it should be okay. I had paracetamol and cold and flu tablets.. i also have a chesty cough and was recommend to have cough medicine too.

Happy one month anniversary everybody!!!!!! We made it!!!!!! How is everyone going now that the most of the major healing has passed? -
Have you checked your electrolytes?? When i had my band i would sometimes get light headed and really dizzy when standing and bending. Turned out to be an electrolyte imbalance... doctor told me to get gastrolyte and drink that daily for a few days.... fixed me right up... After that whenever i felt like that again I would make sure im hydrated and that i had electrolytes... never had that problem again
-
Yes... i had the band for 6 years... lost weight.. got to goal and maintained for 5 I had complications during the last year and had it removed for 12 months. Basically, during the 12 months after i got it removed i gained weight.. a lot... i was really eating well.... exercising.. the works.. tried everything .. yet was still gaining weight. I went to see the doctor and they said i had reset my resting metabolic rate to quite low...from all the complications from the band. so they suggested i get weight loss surgery as my body doesn't function on the higher calories. I had the sleeve done... and ive lost 22 pounds this month... I was told i probably never lose a large amount, but at least im not gaining and that was my reason for getting the sleeve. No... not a senior moment... lol... i should probably be clearer not to confuse people lol
-
Each to their own.... if one chooses to not have them... power to them... its a choice... an individual one... i agree we do not HAVE to do anything... how one chooses to live their life is their prerogative. I maintained for 5 years... and i made the choice that in would not have "naughty" food unless it was a special occasion or major social event (which would be around once a month).. there is no calories in birthday cake lol I never felt deprived or felt like i was missing out either... that worked for me... But... early one i had to deal with my food and overeating addiction and making that choice was part of it
-
But if she knows it's a trigger food and that might ultimately cause weight gain, where is the pleasure? Should an alcoholic have an occasional recreational martini? Everyone has a trigger food.. I am not suggesting anyone eat a box of cookies or a whole cake... I acknowledge that trigger foods should be avoided until you deal with why you over eat... but my point is.. one should use this process to teach ones self to control their portions and have balance... there is no need for deprivation I don't think the occasional cookie is going to cause weight gain... unless you are overeating or having them too frequently... what will you gain weight is when yopu deprive yourself for so long that you go on a binge day after day because you have not dealt with your food issues. Remember they did surgery on our stomachs not our head.... these issues should be addressed for long term maintenance

NeedaBreak4Me replied to miss_smiles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Best feeling in the world was seeing my shadow today and it looked noticeably thinner and less lumpy around the sides. .. then i caught my reflection in the glass doors at work and saw that my legs were getting thinner too... I thought... hey sexy thang!! Looking good... lol And thats only at a 22 pound loss!! Imagine when i get to goal!! -
Weight loss stalls
NeedaBreak4Me replied to Rvamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ive been "stalling" ever day! hahahaha I stay the same for 4 days then miraculously lose 2 to 4 pounds lol and the cycle continues... so frustrating lol I've learnt that your body will lose when it wants to... as long as you are doing everything right... itll be fine. At 8 days i lost barely anything... weight didn't really start for me till week 2 -
Did you loose friends?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to Tina4heath4ever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a group of loud boisterous friends... we were as close as a family.... all of our social activities revolved around food and everyone in the group was overweight. When i had my band and lost my weight, they started isolating me, treating me different and to be honest i wasn't enjoying their company as much because my own mindset had changed. My friendship with this grouo became very toxic and i stopped hanging out with them. In hindsight, they were never truly friends, they didn't like change and were never supportive. It hurt quite a bit back then, but now... I'm like thank god! Good riddance. Basically if they are truly friends.... they will support you regardless of your size or eating habits. -
4/22 Sleeve & Small Hiatal Hernia repair - I'm Still throwing up, dehydrated, can't eat
NeedaBreak4Me replied to rhansen7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmm thats odd.... i was sleeved two days before you and i am tolerating soft foods (as per my program) What have you been eating? How have you been eating? The thing that jumps out at me is the nectarine, for me that would be way to stringy at this stage. Have you tried going back to pureed foods, yoghurt, etc, taking tiny bites, eating very very slowly? I wonder if something has caused some inflammation.... I would call them and demand to speak to someone... -
Welcome angie! The great thing about these boards is you can have hundreds of friends who are on a similar journey to you.... feel free to introduce us to your story ☺

Yes.... i had 3 pretty large purpley blue bruises near the incisions.... very normal to have them. I looked like i was beaten up pretty bad..... it from the laproscopic gear they use i reckon...

Have you gotten rid of the winter season clothes ?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to kat27641's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I personally would keep some winter clothing.... a common side effect of surgery and losing weight is you feel cold! Even when its warm... -
I know what you mean.... when i was pre op.. i was craving all sorts of things, even things i would never eat, its funny what hunger does to your mind and body. The surgery part is quite straight forward, the post part was not as bad as i had imagined it. I did a post this morning about the things ive learnt post op.. have a read, it'll make you feel a little more sane afterwards lol http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/367880-One-week-post---Wow-what-a-week!
-
Oh i am so sorry... i didn't realise you were pre op... i dont think those doughnut pics helped..... (thats the closest thing i could find to a Protein shake) lol Wednesday huh... are you excited and petrified?

One week post - Wow what a week!
NeedaBreak4Me replied to UpandAtom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everything you guys have mentioned is completely normal..... I had trouble with liquid and acid for 1 day post op then it got better day 2, week 2 i was extremely hungry for no good reason, actual hunger not head hunger, week 3 i am feeling like a champion! I am meeting all my liquid and Protein requirements... Just give everything time.... be patient... your body is healing and doing some funky stuff... i was panicking and freaking out over the smallest things and in hindsight it seems so long ago..... even though it has only been 3 weeks. I worried about not ever being able to drink Water again I worried because i wasn't losing weight I worried because i kept getting heartburn I worried that I would never be able to eat again I worried that my weight loss would never start I worried about my stitches and bruises I worried about my lethargy I worried why i was feeling depressed and angry I worried about the weird gurgling noises I worried about the gas i was feel and boy did my toots reek! Lol And you know what..... all that worry was for nothing... everything sorted itself out in the end. So chin up, your body is healing, be kind to it.. and in time you will feel much better ☺
