I Cried Over Pizza Last Night...

I was walking through the food court the other day and there was such a variety of food... i saw this one dude scoffing down his noodles and i had a bit of a moment... thinking i will never be able to do that again... i did get quite emotional about it... I kept looking around thinking that i wish i was one of those people who can enjoy food without it going straight to their hips. I just look at food and gain 10 pounds! I then snapped myself out of it and reminded myself that this dude might be enjoying his noodles, but i am in the process of extending my life... and that i will one day be able to have a little bit of noodles if i lose and maintain

    Weight loss statistics question

Sorry, but it might not be a good idea to encourage people not to do the pre op diet. People may take your post as gospel and not follow their surgeon's instructions. The pre op diet is based on the individual and the surgeon evaluates the risk of accidentally cutting the liver during surgery and if a person is higher risk, they need to do it for longer. I would suggest that you reword the post to be from your experience... not general information that could potentially be detrimental to someone's progress or surgey ☺

    Weight loss statistics question

Nothing... the liver shrinking diet is not for weight loss.... it is to shrink your liver to make it safe for them to move it to access your stomach.. otherwise there is a risk that they could accidentally cut it. If someone does it for 2 weeks, i would be suprised to find many people who would lose nothing... you loose mainly Water during that time..

    Checklist for AFTER surgery...

Honestly, i think a lot of us overestimate how much we need post surgery. I think we still buy things using our big tummy. Post op, you are so swollen and tight that you can barely finish 1/4 cup. A 500g tub of yoghurt would last over a week! I don't think 4 weeks would make much of a difference... Do your research, invest in a really good Protein powder that delivers the best quality and amount you can afford. And save your money on the extras... you won't need them. I had a Protein Powder, some broth and popsicles. . That is literally the only things i brought in preparation. At 5 weeks.... i still have the protein powder and the popsicles lol... i think i ate 4 in total.. 1/4 at a time

    Acne

I would guess you are either sensitive to the lactose or artificial sweetner. If you were a high junk food eater..It could also be that your body is purging all the gunk out of your system now that you are eating better. I am the opposite... i eat quite clean... i am not big on artificial anything... i like my food as close to the way nature intended.. but if i do eat processed food... i break out in blind pimples... but as soon as i stop.. my skin clears right up. Maybe try a different brand. .. check the ingredients... that might give you a clue. Do you have issues with normal milk?
  11. I haven't told anyone other than my family and 1 close friend... and i don't plan to tell anyone else. For me its not that i am ashamed, i just don't need the additional pressure and judgement from people. When i had the band previously i told the world... and i regretted it... there was too much pressure. .. i would get judged... like if i ate something naughty, if i hadn't lost enough weight, if i attended a social function the people would watch to see what i was ordering and what i was eating. I got sick of being labelled the wls person, everything revolved around my food and weight loss .. i was not seen as me anymore.. but as the fat friend/colleague/acquaintance who got skinny and took the easy way out. This time around i decided i would only tell the people closest to me and that i know will love me for me... not for my size. I decided that i would tell the truth.. i am eating low carb, smaller portions and exercising. I do not need anyone invalidating my hard work this time around. Don't feel guilty... its your body, your choice and what you do is no ones business

    Speed!

I have done this... i was in back to back meetings one day.. and hadn't eaten for a long while... when i finally ate... it got stuck nd slimey and out it came l... I find that i slow down when remind myself that if i eat too quick... i will throw up. . That normally helps me. Try to concentrate on chewing your bite a set number of times.. and then putting your utensils down between bites..

    Post Your Silly Rant

    - People who walk slowly in zig zag motions when in a a crowd.. therefore you can not overtake them. - Mothers with prams... who think they own the shopping isle... by keeping their pram diagonal so noone who can get through. - Parents with bratty kids who let them run wild in inappropriate situations. - drivers who overtake you dangerously and then slow down and drive really slow grrr - People who take up two seats in the train (just cause they are comfortable that way) - People who do not get up for the elderly or disabled - when you are parked and the person waiting for you parks so close to you that you can't get out.. - People in the shipping checkout who wait for their 50 items to be scanned without taking out their wallet and then spend 5 minutes looking for their wallet I could be here all day lol I'm becoming so grumpy in my old age lol
  14. It could be a hormone dump from losing weight, but this usually occurs earlier. What comes to mind is... your nutrients.. are you taking Vitamins? I know that when i am specifically low on B12 or thiamine or b6 i get really down for no reason. If you are taking a multi, perhaps have a look at the values... Daily recommended values from our surgeon's office are: Iron - 18mg B1 - 1.1mg B12 - 2.4mg B6 - 2mg Calcium -1000mg Folate - 400mg Magnesium - 400mg The fact that you were okay earlier and not depressed makes me think its a nutritional or hormonal thing. Hold off on the anti depressants until you check your nutrients. Does your doctor do blood work for follow up appointments?

How did you feel two months post-op?

@@moppet I guess everyone recovers at a different rate. But if your energy is low, you might want to look at your nutrient intake. Try to increase the amount of Iron and B12 that you are getting from food, ensure that you are getting enough Water and Protein. Also, i had an issue with having jittery shakes the other day, turned out my blood sugar was low.. once i increased the carbs a little.. it improved. A typical day for me is: Breakfast: egg omelette with lots of veggies Snack: yoghurt or cheese, ive also been making egg/cheese savoury muffins (no flour) for when i need to eat on the go Lunch: meat/fish with veggies Snack: cheese wrapped in deli meat Dinner: fish or meat and veggies.. I'm making stewed meat and casseroles with veggies so they are softer so i can get more in, i also try to add greek yoghurt as my dip/side and Beans or lentils for extra protein. I plan my meals prior to ensure all my meals have the total protein i need for the day and have a rule... i am not allowed to sleep until i have all my water for the day. I am not big on Protein Shakes as i don't think nutrients should solely come from synthetic chemicals... but if i come up short for the day... i will have one. I am getting around 800 calories, 80g protein and 84oz water a day .. when i was getting 600 i was feeling a little tired.. so i increased it. Do not be scared of increasing your calories... it actually works against you to have them too low. What does a typical day look like for you?
  16. It's crazy!!! Hopefully the sleeve helps you a bit. I am going to do my best to no wreck my metabolism and get those healthy food calories in. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thank you i am losing. . But it will be slow... even the surgeon said so.... but i am still impatient lol

    Constantly Drinking?

It doesn't really matter about how long.... as long as you meet your goals. Everyone is different.. do what feels comfort for you. Some people work better on a schedule.. some work better sipping. For me, i would sip constantly till i felt i had enough, would take a break.. and continue the cycle. Don't over think it... it will only stress you out... trust your body.. it will tell you what its comfortable with.

Dr. says 40 is too young...help

@@mythreekids This doctor sounds like he is very uneducated... If you have the sleeve you can have a revision to bypass!! If he doesn't know that basic information i would not trust him to cut off 80% of my stomach. Because you are getting a large portion cut out.. i would not use him.. he obviously has not had much experience with the sleeve. The surgeon needs to cut the right size for your stomach and get the curvature correct...otherwise there can be difficulties with eating later... i don't believe this surgeon would understand this stuff if he is inexperienced. For your own health, get a second opinion! This dude sounds like a quack!

48 hours afterwards. Was it a mistake?

Hi Gina... yes it gets so much better.... it will get easier each day. I struggled for the first 2 weeks, and now at 5 weeks i am back to my normal self. I struggled to drink a cup of Water in 45 mins.. now i can drink around 33oz... so yes big difference. Try softening the water by adding some SF flavour, lemon, mint, or fruit slices. This helped lot post op. Hang in there... be kind to your body, you are swollen and have been cut.. so your body is stressed... but try your best to meet your daily requirements and follow your surgeon's instructions .. it will help you heal much faster. Also, one thing that helps... is take a sip of water.. let it rest in your mouth.. and slowly swallow it... i found you get in more water that way without it causing pain. Also try different temperatures

How did you feel two months post-op?

I am 5 weeks out... and i am completely back to normal... as long as you have a schedule, prepare and plan your menu, macros and calories for the day and find an exercise you enjoy. i dont see how it would be much different to where you are now. Obviously it depends on your healing time.. but for me the most difficult was the first 2 weeks... once i was on solids.. everything went back to normal (my plan has us going on solids at week 4) How long into your plan till you get onto solids?

In agony with left shoulder! Help!

Hey... how did you go? Have you booked an appointment with your friend?
  25. I am surprised that they are doing the sleeve with you previous having reflux with the band.... When i had decided on the sleeve after having my band removed , they sent me for testing to make sure i didn't have issues with my esophagus. Has your doctor mentioned that the sleeve has a higher rate of reflux? Especially if you experience it with the band? I would contact your surgeon and ask for a manometry test. Good luck with your journey.. Wishing you a speedy recovery
