@@OKCPirate What about me???!!! Pick me! Pick me! Can i be the "had the band now the sleeve" guru?????
-
@@ridgerunner No offense at all.... i see nothing wrong with healthy respectful discussion.... I just thought its time to show the other side... there seems to be a lot of veteran slamming at the moment by a few select people... and others are jumping on that bandwagon... i thought its time for others to see the other side.... I believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and on a forum you can choose to take advice or not. .. at the end of the day... they are words on a screen from people who don't know you... so i do not take everything said as gold. I take personal responsibility for my health, my life and my thoughts...and will research, double check and ask my surgeon if i am unsure about something. If i do receive advice, i take it.. double check the facts.. then implement it if it is correct .. what works for one person may not work for another. One can not rely soley on a forum for their medical advice... thats a dangerous road to take. In relation to you not posting because you are afraid... don't be... feel free to.. there will always be someone in your corner to defend you if someone is being an ass ????

Hi @I have not had my surgery yet but I don't know if I can make it. I thank you for being my friend and I look forward to hearing from you later. Sent from my LGMS330 using the BariatricPal App What stage are you at? When are you having your surgery?

No... i don't agree with plain old rudeness and name calling... if it is blantant and in your face... then no... its not okay. Eg.. i just read a thread where someone is seeking advice over something that they can have early out. The experienced people are like no, bad idea, follow your program and the poster then gets angry and berates them because they weren't helpful.... whaaaaaat? Lol
-
@@CowgirlJane I completely agree with you... As sleeved newbie, but not a wls newbie i have been on both ends... So i give advice as a veteran of the band... but seek advice regarding the sleeve since i am only 7 weeks out. I read many threads and am quite active... even though i don't post on everything. .. i reply to what is relevant to me or where i can provide assistance.. from my experience. But, it seems that if you have a different opinion, or try to show a different perspective some people seem to get offended. Majority of the time i find its people who ask something. .. wanting to have their opinion validated and when someone disagrees... they get all huffy about it. Eg.... i ate a steak and i am 2 days post op. A vetetan would say noooo thats dangerous for xyz reasons.... the poster then gets offended because the veteran wasn't being supportive!! How can someone be supportive of something dangerous??????? I think many "not being supportive" posts come from posters not hearing what they want to hear.. they want validation not advice

@@ridgerunner Guess that is the nature of forums isn't it? There will always be trolls, there will always be differences of opinions and there will always be people who take things the wrong way... Its all about interpretation... what someone may see as sarcasm, another will see it as a joke. So regardless of what is said... someone is always bound to feel like a victim This is a debate that will never be won, because every person is different and interprets things differently.... I just hope that people can relax a little and not make this a forum where everyone just whines and supports and enables each other... i do not want to come to a forum where i am scared to crack a joke because i might offend someone... i want to laugh too!!

@@Alex Brecher A private forum for veterans??? Is that really necessary?? I mean yes, veterans can have their own place to post on. But it seems counterproductive for us newbies. When i was a newbie, i came to rely on the experience and wisdom of these veterans... they were supportive and gave valuble information that a newbie could never give. What we will create is a newbie forum with no experience or valuable information. I know of late many people have been jumping on the "everyone is mean and rude" bandwagon and i really don't see what the issue is. Personally, i have had most of my support from @@LipstickLady , @@VSGAnn2014 , @@KindaFamiliar , @@CHM , @ & @@Christinamo7 I find their posts are real and informative... and they can also take a joke... and lighten up a very dreary day when i am having one. I have only ever seen sarcastic comments in reply to when a poster instigates it.. I find that many people expect that posts should be posted as to how THEY would write it.... but the whole point of a forum is to have different personalities and opinions. Honestly if this forum became overly moderated and one gets slammed for having an opinion or sense of humor i would most definitely go elsewhere... I really hope it doesn't come to that... everyone should either reply with info that is useful, relevant or funny ... or not post at all. I actually had a read of my first few posts yesterday... i don't know what i would have done without these "veterans" back then... i was an emotional mess... they helped put things back in perspective. So to all you veterans out there.... thank you.... thank you for your support and taking the time out of your lives when you no longer need to... to give us newbies your wisdom, encouragement and a kick up the bum when required.... this forum wouldn't be the same without you ☺

Banded for 8 years and getting sleeved tomorrow
NeedaBreak4Me replied to Mrready's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@dhm I will echo what @@Mrready said. I have no issues with Water... i can drink 34oz in around 20 mins now... no issues at all.... the first 2 weeks were difficult... but it only gets easier with time. Because you are an ex bander... we have more movement with our esophagus and can fit a little more than a virgin sleever. At 7 weeks, i can drink water normally.. i can't gulp down huge amounts, but i can drink a decent amount... i have not had any issues with dehydration. Restriction wise, its a comfortable restriction... no heavy feeling on the chest like with the band. I wish you all the best with your surgey.... keep us updated on how you go -
Banded for 8 years and getting sleeved tomorrow
NeedaBreak4Me replied to Mrready's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@DGM no need to be nervous... the sleeve is soooooooo much easier than the band... no food getting stuck, no painful pressure when eating, its just like having a normal tummy.. except smaller... well thats what it is like for me compared to when i was banded ☺ -
Hey... As a previous bander. . I know what it is like to choose slider foods over normal foods so they do not get stuck. I would suggest you go in for an adjustment and meet with your nutritionist... (i am not sure if you have an after care plan) The only advice i can give is stop choosing the sliders... choose food that is nutritionally dense yet moist... eg fish, veggie bakes, mashed cauliflower, stews etc. I found the more liquid the meat had, the less likely it was to get stuck. What kind of things are you eating now?

allergy to Whey protein
NeedaBreak4Me replied to ssmoore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have any of you tried pea Protein shakes... that is lactose free... but i will warn you... its not the best tasting thing out there... i personally didn't like it... .. i didn't try adding anything to alter the flavour though. How far out are you guys?? I am 7 weeks and have been on solids since week 4.... i am meeting my protein goals daily without needing to use shakes... i am one of those weirdos who have a aversion to chemical laden foods... so i try to stay away as much as i can -

Sometimes when replying one is being sympathetic and understanding... it depends on how one reads the tone. .. unless they are being blatantly rude... its not always so obvious... -
Motivation to eat
NeedaBreak4Me replied to Tssiemer1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am struggling with this now... however i have been on solids since week 4. I just started week 7. I went grocery shopping yesterday and there wasn't anything that really interested me... i am a good cook... and can get quite creative with food... but nothing appealed to me.. everything was like... meh... but i brought stuff cause i needed to.. not cause I wanted to -
True that! .... even though i know its normal... and i know from previous wls that my body doesn't really lose much till the 3 month mark...... but i still want to whinge and whine about it lol I wanna stomp my feet, throw a huge tantrum and throw those scales out the window hahahaha I had my scales die on me the other day... and i vowed that i wouldn't purchase new one.... but there was a scale sale and they were 70% off! I couldn't not buy one... so now i am back to obsessing about the numbers ... i need help hahaha

Wow.... that is horrible... i feel sorry for their friends and family... and for people who are close by who will now live in fear. . So sad... As for the prejudice comment.... It pisses me off when the media label one entire race with the actions of a few individuals. Its funny... going back 20 years you never heard the "T" word... now everything that happens is an attack..... these people who carry out the attack are nothing more than mentally ill, dangerous and brainwashed. To tarnish an entire race, color or religion is just irresponsible and unfair to the majority of the law abiding good people who live there. It saddens me that this type of reporting creates a divide amongst the people of the country and creates attitudes and comments like the one said earlier.... very sad that the world has come to this

I am 7 weeks out now...My body is fighting back so badly... its such a stubborn thing just like its owner. Hehe ☺ I have had annoying weight loss so far... i stall a week... drop a little suddenly... maintain for a week then drop again .. etc etc... sooooooooo annoying. But hey... at least its going down... not up... i think i need to escalate my exercise now. I don't mind the slower weightloss in a way... at least this way my skin has some time to recover... hence less loose skin

Transition to regular food
NeedaBreak4Me replied to sean72977's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey.... The transition to solids seemed to be easiest for me. I met my Protein goals daily by being creative with my food. Basically i had the following: Breakfast.. scrambled eggs and i would add salmon Lunch/dinner ... i would have stewed meat, add Beans, then a dollop of greek yoghurt when served. Or a slow cooked casserole with veg. Snacks consisted of cheese and sliced turkey deli meat. In between meals i would concentrate on getting my Water in. That seemed to work for me the best. In relation to restriction... my sleeve seems a little more less restrictive as i have had the band in the past... so a virgin sleever would struggle more. But, advice i can give is...plan your meals, keep your meat moist, small bites, chew well, measure out your portions and try to add extra protein where you can. If you fall short.. add a Protein shake. -
I don't know about this... i try to be understanding most of the time.. and usually post how MY experience was in regards to the question... But.... sometimes the question is sooooo silly or dangerous that some "tough love" is in order... sometimes i just want to virtually grab someone by the shoulders and shake them.... lol Yes, we are here to support each other and share experiences... but i will never be the enabler who pats someone on the back saying "there, there little one, i support the fact that you are 2 days post op and trying to eat a huge steak wrapped in a bread roll, smoking and eating a celery stick" I personally think thats counterproductive... its dangerous and risky... and why on earth someone would test their sleeve that early like that is beyond me! .. therefore i will never be supportive of something like that. If the person can not take thr basic personal responsibility for their health by understanding the requirements... then they shouldn't complain when someone points out it is wrong.... but majority of the time the poster gets offended... lol the mind boggles
-
I Actually don't care who its about..... Everyone has the potential to be mean or rude.... i just think its ironic... just an observation.. i have a warped sense of humor sometimes lol
-
Does anyone find it ironic that this thread is directed at people being rude, sarcastic and "ruining" the forum, but a lot of the posts are doing exactly what the complaint is about lol... I actually find that quite ironic...
