Freaking out because it's going TOO well?!
NeedaBreak4Me replied to fits_like_a_sleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a perfect recovery... i even went shopping after i got discharged from hospital... Take it easy... stop worrying yourself to death, drink your liquid, take your PPI and meet your daily goals and you will do wonderfully.. You are one of the lucky ones.. so embrace the fact that it is all going well.... its not abnormal.. everyone heals differently.. you will be fine -
Band or Sleeve? So confused :(
NeedaBreak4Me replied to ready?set.go's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think what the ex banders are trying to say... it isn't the weight loss that is the issue... it is the band actually failing. There are not many people who have lasted over 10 years with the band as the band itself fails... you get slippage, erosion into the stomach or your body starts rejecting it. You can follow all the instructions from the surgeon, eat well, exercise etc, but once it fails... it becomes impossible to eat normally, you get pressure, pain and sliming. Once the band starts failing and its removed, you gain the weight back... even if you are behaving. All the best with your surgery... i hope it goes well. Oh and on a side note...a friendly suggestion. i would suggest not calling people "failures" just because their wls failed... it invalidates the persons effort without knowing their story ☺ -
Yes, yes we are... I think like any traveller... they let loose a lot more when overseas. For eg. Here... an aussie guy will make small talk, dance with you, ask to buy you a drink etc. In the states, there were like.... hey, you are hot... what's your number, give me a kiss lol ... not so subtle hahaha

4 days post op and having a hard time drinking soo much????
NeedaBreak4Me replied to correak's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey.. congratulations on your surgery. The first couple of weeks it is difficult to get all your fluids in, just keep sipping. If you are finding your Water difficult to tolerate, try adding something to soften it... eg.. mint, lemon, SF water flavouring. Try different temperatures. One trick that worked for me was to drink, hold the water/shake in my mouth, and slowly swallow... that was the best technique to getting more in without causing pain Don't be too hard on yourself, everything is still swollen, it will get easier each day.. promise. -

What's the chances of recovering from a slip without surgery?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to c945105's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sorry i just assumed, my bad... So you had surgery to reposition it... hopefully it is functioning well for you now..... During my time i had 1 band replacement and 2 port replacements.... after 3 surgeries with no improvement.. i said enough... get this darn thing out of me! .. i really wanted it to work long term... and tried to make it last as much as possible... but for me it was time to go... -
What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
NeedaBreak4Me replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@RonnieRab Thank you... i was having a bit of a "moment" i appreciate your support. You would think this being my 2nd time around it would be easier... but its not... the emotional issues i had dealt with when i lost all the weight initially all came back. Just goes to show that this is not a cure... its something that needs to be worked on for life... I went shopping today... and the self loathing came rearing its ugly head... i have lost weight, am looking better, but obviously my brain has other ideas... i went into the change room and tried on some clothes. The clothes i grabbed were way to big... hence looked horrible. . Instantly my reaction was to blame my body not the clothes... not the fact that my brain hasn't caught up... argh... -
What's the chances of recovering from a slip without surgery?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to c945105's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
@@LadyMaggie That is exactly what happens if the surgeon doesn't deal with it the first time... the slip gets worse and worse until its too late and nothing can be done except removing it. This is why i keep pushing @@c945105 to ignore the surgeon and ask for an unfill... since its a new small slip... a unfill should resolve it... but if it is left with that much fill in the band... it will completely slip and might need to be removed . Have you had a revision since your removal? -
Heartburn & Sore Throat... ouch!
NeedaBreak4Me replied to NeedaBreak4Me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well i finally got to sleep... and i woke up 30 minutes ago... and it was gone.... around 10 mins ago it has come back!! Argh!! I will go see my doctor today... this will drive me insane otherwise -
Hey... sorry i just saw the post, i didn't realise you were referring to me Yes i am from Australia.... we are a laid back bunch... but i think dating issues are universal. I have been to the states many times, and yes, in relation to being lighthearted i think we are much more laid back.... one thing i did notice was how angry alot of people were... funnily enough i found the people on California much more aggressive than New York .. which i didn't expect.... but i did meet many lovely people on my trips... everyone i met were crazy about my accent.. which i don't even realise i have hahaha I was single when i went... so when we went to night clubs... the "pick up" style was a lot more straight forward compared to here.... aussie guys are a lot more subtle hahaha

Heartburn & Sore Throat... ouch!
NeedaBreak4Me replied to NeedaBreak4Me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah. . I think this one requires a visit to the doctor... something isn't right... i should trust my instincts. I really hope its not gerd. .. that was one of my biggest fears pre op. I wonder if the pariet is no longer working.. or i need to adjust the dose... i guess the doctor can decide. I have no idea how i am going to go to sleep... its driving me mad... -
Heartburn & Sore Throat... ouch!
NeedaBreak4Me replied to NeedaBreak4Me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nooooo i hope thats not the case with me.... i don't want it!! *throws a tantrum* hehe I wonder if its possible to develop this far out though... i would have thought I would have got it sooner after surgery. Its odd though.... it almost feels like smokers sore throat... kinda when you've been out and smoked way way to much... thats the only way i can describe it -
Heartburn & Sore Throat... ouch!
NeedaBreak4Me replied to NeedaBreak4Me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for your reply... It was a straight forward surgery and no issues at all. I did have a manometry done prior to surgery and was advised by the surgeon that everything is normal so GERD shouldn't be an issue post op. I had heartburn for the first couple of days and haven't had it for the whole 7 weeks since surgery till yesterday... but this us crazy.. its driving me mad. I should probably go to the doctor... but i was hoping someone had been through it and could provide a temporary remedy till then. I took gaviscon around an hour ago... no relief whatsoever -
And so it begins!

What's the chances of recovering from a slip without surgery?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to c945105's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I really hope you can sort this out... the last thing you want is having the band removed because of something that could have been remedied by something as simple as an unfill Keep me updated on how things progress -
What's the chances of recovering from a slip without surgery?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to c945105's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There is nothing wrong with questioning them... its your body and you know when something doesn't feel right. I had one time where i told my surgeon to unfill cause it felt like there was too much pressure.. he did a swallow test and everything was fine. Fast forward 3 days... i literally vomited 30 times in one evening... it was so bad i started vomiting blood!!! It was a public holiday so everyone was closed... the surgeon had to rush to the hospital to give me a complete unfill.... From that moment on... i would always listen to my body and what i was feeling... if its too tight. . If you feel odd or uncomfortable. .. get an unfill... even if someone says its not necessary... You know your body.. and your body will show you warning signs. .. you just need to look out for them. I hope i am making sense lol.. im rambling -
I like to eat a whole food diet... but i am not vegetarian.. but i love to eat that way.... and adding meat. Some foods that are great and high in Protein are lentils, pulses, veggies (obviously), tofu, falafel, chickpeas, etc Chickpeas and lentils and tofu would be the best to add bulk and protein to meals.... If i am in a non meat mood... i just supplement the meat in my recipes using those. Lentil curries, chickpea stews, falafel as Snacks etc... But... going vegan... how do you plan to get your Calcium.. i hear broccoli is difficult for some

Ive said this in the past... But i always had some Water around 20 mins before i ate... it always helped lubricate things.. around 1/4 cup is sufficient. If cold water doesn't work, try warm water. Another trick was to have a few bites of the softer parts of the meal first. . Then proceed to the meat. Like what dancing fool said... stewed meats, moist slow cooked meats work better than anything dry... choose a fattier cut... eg.. chicken thigh over chicken breast

Has anyone experienced a leak due to drinking protein prior to 5 weeks?
NeedaBreak4Me replied to sleeverv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is extremely odd... are you sure she doesn't mean eating Protein.... Protein promotes healing. .. so i am suprised she said this. I would call the clinic and clarify and ask for the studies she is referring to. It is the first ive ever heard of it... it seems drinking Protein drinks post op is standard practice around the world. Doesn't sound right to me We were on pureed food as soon as we were discharged.... and i am still alive.. so i don't know what she is talking about... unless you have complications -
Thanks kathy... We don't really have the whole insurance stuff here... so i guess that makes it easier. We have private health insurance. . Which cover a large portion or you can self pay... It was pretty quick... but this time i didn't need to see the psych... they already knew i was crazy from when i had my band lol

Looking for people who are just starting the bariatric process
NeedaBreak4Me replied to XxStephYxX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Initially it is difficult to drink water due to the swelling post op, but it does get easier each week. I am 7 weeks out now... and i can gulp mouthfuls of water with no issues... o don't think i can guzzle a whole bottle in one go... but i can get through 34 oz in a short period of time... eg... it took me 20 mins tonight
