*MALE ONLY* How long did it take you to get your approval from insurance?
taxudown replied to illailla's topic in The Guys’ Room
I have BCBS Fed, and I started 4/14 and will have surgery the first week or two in August. The only thing I have to do for my insurance is the 90 day diet. I've had the psych, weight history etc. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Had my first appointment yesterday. It was a great experience...long, but great. One of the funniest things happened while I was there. This young lady was already seated in the room and started talking a mile a minute. She was so excited. When the gastro nurse came in - we all started hearing loud snores. My friend woke her up, and then the surgeon came in. She was laid back in her chair, shirt all up - sawing logs. The surgeon was irritated and I got so tickled I couldn't speak or breath for laughing with tears running down my face. (I must say she wasn't sleeping due to a medical condition.) Overall - I love my surgeon. I don't have to have any other tests. I scheduled my psych eval, start a 90 supervised diet Tuesday, and now it's a waiting game. The surgeon concurred with the sleeve; however, said it was because I was young (28) and have had a trainer for a year and a half. He said I should bounce back fast. I'm looking forward to a new me. Next summer will be the best one ever. I'm sure others can empathize with staying away from the beach or pools because of weight. I have never been thin. This time next year, I will be the thinnest and healthiest if my adult life. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Yea I should be close to the first of August. Thankfully I only have to do the 90 day physician supervised diet and we can go to insurance. My dr said I was an "easy" patient.

I have recently decided to start the process for bariatric surgery. I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I have had feelings of low to no self-worth, refuse to go on vacations and when forced to, it's frequently the worst memories I have. I'm a workaholic. I find that working all the time keeps my mind off my weight. I tend to shy away from the mirror totally. I'm a 28 year old professional guy. I graduated with my masters at 21, am a CPA, and have had a successful career since graduation. However, advancement in my personal life has never progressed because of my weight. I finally had enough. Last January I started with a personal trainer... And over the last year and a half have managed to gain about 10-15 pounds. Talk about a punch in the face. I am not sure if y'all's experiences. However, when I committed in my mind to this surgery, I was excited-nervous-scared-back to excited. I would like to know why you chose sleeve instead of bypass or band. When I told my family they said things like "but you are only heavy on top - you can be disciplined and just do better" or "why not do it the natural or hard way" or "I am afraid you'll die." I have also had some friends and family that are happy and excited - even my personal trainer is supportive and strangely excited. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So, I recently did an online seminar for Vanderbilt University Medical Center Bariatric Surgery. I 4/16/16 for the first appointment. They said it should take about 4-5 hours, and you meet doctors, nutritionist, Gastro nurse, and insurance "specialist". My concern for me - I think BCBS Fed requires 6 months supervised diet/WL program. I do not have a PCP - I'm 28 and never really been to the dr all that often. I did about 6 months of phentermine years ago and for the last 1 1/2 years, I've had a personal trainer 2-3 times per week. What's going to happen? I have seen a dr in my new town a couple times for low blood sugar, but nothing really major. I'm about 365 BMI 51. Any thoughts? IS there a way to get around the 6 month supervised thing?

Insurance Questions - BCBS Federal
taxudown replied to taxudown's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Miss Mac and @@silverthreads Thank you so much! I was very pleased to see that FED BCBS required 3 months of supervised plan. That's great. I was hoping I would be able to do my surgery in July if things went right. I have been morbidly obese nearly my entire life. I actually have gained 15 pounds after being with a trainer for 1 1/2 years (which isn't cheap). I was surprised when I told my trainer of my plan yesterday that he was positive and supportive. I go to law school August - May of the year, so need it in the summer and really don't want to wait until next summer. I really appreciate all of your comments. -
