Hey August 2016 sleevers, how are you doing in Jan 2017?
maggie'smom replied to diana tx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved August 12. Starting weight 207, surgical weight 166. Current weight 136. Goal weight 125. Very slow loss now, but I'm not in a hurry, I'm working on conquering lifelong bad habits. Some days good, others, not so good. -
just wanted to brag a little. I went for my 3 month check up at the bariatric center, it's been 5 months sice surgery and was told that I don't need to lose anymore weight. I've lost 71 lbs and my goal was 85 lbs. Maybe the extra weight is the loose skin,LOL. I was asked if I would be willing to be a part of their new ad campaign. They want me to be a member of "BARIATRIC HEROES". Not bragging, just thankful for the surgery and for the team at UCHealth Bariatric Center who have helped me on this journey. I tried for many years to lose weight only to regain all and more. I really believe with diligence and the sleeve I can do it. Thanks also for all the support through all this.

Can't keep some food's down
maggie'smom replied to LadieTina's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Glad to hear this. I am having problems realizing what doesn't make me feel rotten after eating. Meat is not settling well, I can eat soup, cottage cheese and yogurt without a bad feeling afterward. Good to know this isn't abnormal. I'll be patient. -
For me loose skin is a problem, but I'll be 66 this month so I'm not surprised. I just started solid food and I was sleeved Aug.12. I lose slowly, but that is fine as long as it doesn't come back. I just got back from a trip to Amish country and I was so happy to have lost 3 lbs. Usually I gain 5 lbs, with all the good food.I believe that losing slowly probably insures that new habits have more time to become established. Good luck on this journry.

Just wanted to recommend a web site for we older ladies who are doing water aerobics to get healthier. I hated my loose skin showing, so I ordered aq swim shirt and skirt from " Hydrochic" and love it! I love that I'm covered but still look nice and this also has an spf of 50! Helps prevent more sunspots! Hope this info is useful for my WLS sisters.

off topic but.....where, what were you doing september 11, 2001?
maggie'smom replied to ProudGrammy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband and I were watching the news and heard the alert about the first tower being hit. We of course thought it was a terrible accident until we saw the second plane hit the other tower. We looked at each other in speechless shock. No sooner than we saw this when they announced that the pentagon had been hit and flight 93 was missing. We watched in horrified disbelief as we watched all the death and destruction flashed over the news. How can anyone ever forget 9/11 2001? -
I'm also a month out from WLS, my weight loss is slow. one day I'll be down a lb. , the next up 1/2 lb. Then no change for 2 days and then down a lb. 1/2. i just began pureed food. The liquid phase for 6 weeks about did me in.2 weeks before and 4 weeks after, it was murder, especially because after surgery my taste changed drastically. Sweet foods are horrible to me. I could barely stomach shakes of any kind.Soups were a little better, but I'm so glad that is over. I've lost 52 so far, 40 before surgery and 12 since, still have 30 to go, but steady progress. I was especially worried since I'm soon to be 66. I figured that it wouln't be fast, I've been dieting since the beginning of oct.2015 and it is now sept.2016.My surgeon told me to begin exercising and I'm on my 2nd week of exercise. This is a hugh life style change, but I'm determined to get healthy. I already was able to stop my blood pressure medication. I wish all of you luck on this journey. It is hard , but it will be worth it.

WEEK 3.5 POST-OP GASTRIC SLEEVE
maggie'smom replied to Nenniebelle's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm at 4 weeks post-op and having a few issues that I pray are temporary. I can't stand water, flavored or plain. I'm drinking, but it is awful tasting to me. I can't stand the same protein shakes I drank pre-op and yogurt is sickening to me. I am eating cream soups with protein added, but only because I have to eat something. I lost 40 lbs. before wls and only 10 since. I didn't expect it to come off quickly, but I didn't expect food to be repulsive either.Acid reflux keeps me awake at night and my stomach aches most all the time, not hunger just dull feeling. I kow this is probably not too abnormal, but need encouragement that it will pass. -
I ordered the bariatric sleeve vitamin set from bariatric advantage and have thrown them up twice. they are way too sweet. i can't stand the taste of sweet since the surgery.
-
welcome to the post sleeve group. I don't really have a hard and fast goal weight, but tentatively shooting for 125. I haven't been that low in over 20 years. Since I am just short of being 66 years old, I'm concerned about all the excess skin I'm going to have to deal with afterwards. I'm not a willing work out person either. I don't expect to lose quickly, but as long as I feel good and lose steadily I'll take it. Praying that I find a workout buddy to inspire me. I'm not much for working out alone. Just thought of someone who might be willing to go with me!

Sick of clear liquid diet, rather eat nothing.
maggie'smom replied to LxA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry I'm on liquid diet, cosisting of water based protein shakes and soups. 64 oz. of water required and 70 grams of protein. Reread instructions and ordered Genpro to add to yoghurt and soup. I'm hoping this tastes better than the premade ones I've been eating for the last 4 1/2 weeks. -
Sick of clear liquid diet, rather eat nothing.
maggie'smom replied to LxA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had no problem with 2 week pre-op diet. Now that I'm 11 days post-op I can hardly stand to think of any more shakes. I have 18 more days of liquid only and my taste has changed. Sweet drinks taste horrible to me, the soups aren't very good either. Help, I am going back to work in 7 days and need to find something that doesn't turn my stomach. Is it common for food to taste different following surgery? -
Surgery was 08/10/2016 I am 4 days post op and totally regret my decision-will it get better?

The struggle is real and why I'm going through with it.
maggie'smom replied to walkermy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So relieved that I'm not the only one getting this from others. I've been dieting for 10 months, not counting my 2 weeks pre-op 800 calorie diet. I've lost 38 lbs., so it shows. All I hear is you can do it on your own, don't get the surgery. Well like all of you I have lost weight over and over for 40 years only to regain and then some. It was so bad that my children always asked, are you eating our food or diet food? I have been so happy to get this tool to help in this problem, and all I get is pleading with 12me not to do it. Thank God for my husband who understands and for all of you. I have surgery Aug.12. -

Sorry that you are feeling so terrible. You should not eat anything that wasn't listed by your bariatric nutritionist. There is a slight risk of leakage fom a new gastric sleeve surgery. You must let it heal before asking it to handle digesting solid food. Please call your doctor asap to be checked over. I haven't had surgery yet, not until the 12th.I expect to have a rough week with slow improvement after that. You shouldn't rush it.

Two week post op food
maggie'smom replied to madisunshine1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc says liquid the first month, mushies the second month soft food the third and solid the fourth. Appears this varies from practice to practice. -
This too shall pass. From all that I've heard from others, the first week is rough and then gradually improves. Hang in there!

Anyone starting there last month of pre op diet!
maggie'smom replied to AudreyDarling's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally understand you, I had to do a six month pre-op diet ant this turned into 9 months because of heavy vacation schedule at work. Finally having surg on Aug 12. All this time has been difficult, but it has helped me realize the bad habits I have and what needs to change. I'm on day 7 of liquid pre-op diet and it hasn't been hard at all. I believe that the pre surg diet is very important for success. hang in there, it won't be much longer. -
Wonderful news! Beauty and wealth are nice, but good health is a great blessing. So happy to hear this great news.

I'm in my 6 month diet phase and scared to eat
maggie'smom replied to WitchySar's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I'VE BEEN dieting since oct., my surgery is aug 12. During this time I've discovered a lot about my eating behaviors and feel this will be helpful after surgery. I was disappointed that I had to wait, but I feel I have a much more realistic idea of what I need to change. I'm a carboholic, if I begin the day with carbs, I'll eat them all day long. I've learned to drink water and not hate it. For somr reason flavored water made me hungrier, so I quit that.I just finished day 5 of pre-op diet and I feel fine. Maybe the dieting all this time makes this easier. I've dieted all my life and lost about 750 lbs. over the last 40 years, I'm tired of feeling like a failure, this time I'll win, you have helped me more than I can say. Hang in there Witchy-poo, you'll make it! -
How does the sleeve compare to gallbladder surgery?
maggie'smom replied to GSV's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my gall bladder removed about 15 years ago by laparoscopy. It was a piece of cake. I missed 2 days of work. I pray this surgery is only twice as bad. I've had both knees replaced and survived, so I don't anticipate too much post surgical pain. However I'm sure it isn't easy swallowing and getting used to a tiny stomach. Surgery on august 12, day 3 pre_op done. -
I've been stuck in a stall for a while, but the craziest thing happened in the last few days. All of a sudden my shoes are too big! Imagine even losing fat in your feet! I had to go up a size a couple years ago and thought it was due to age and standing at work all these 38 years, but no, it was excess weight! Give your body time to adjust to the fat loss, who knows? Maybe it results in less loose skin!
