People who want privacy - what is or was your cover story?
bellabeans replied to Maggie Journey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saved all my sick time so at the time of surgery I will have 15 paid days off of sick time . Just going to say I had appendicitis or gall bladder emergency surgery . I work with a lot of yappers so I know they will talk no matter what I say . I tried to do it the right way and I requested off 2 weeks but it got denied so my surgery is 2 weeks after my request was . Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Just curious are you using doctors that your surgeon recommended for your insurance criteria ?? Mine were not covered so I am using my own and just passing the info to my surgeon to be submitted to my ins company . But I have consult forms that I printed on line and asking the Drs to fill them out . Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm not up to packing yet but advice from a friend was to bring a pillow to hold for the car ride home for your abdomen if it's a bumpy ride and a back scratcher for those hard to reach places oh and I hear Chapstick is a necessity !! Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I agree with the carbonated beverages and caffeine. I have cut down a lot since my consultation. I have just completed my second weigh in and I would say I am drinking less than half that I was drinking. I am a huge Diet Coke addict so this probably just as hard as quitting smoking (thank god I don't have to do both) . But it definitely is not easy and if I did it cold turkey I probably wouldn't have any friends left Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I also am looking at August if all goes well . I have most of my pre op procedure appointments made . I do think about it every day , but I feel so uneducated . Maybe as all of my procedures are completed I will have a much better understanding of this whole journey Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am making all of my appointments to meet the criteria for my insurance company. My surgeon just told me to see the specialists and thats it. And of course to let them know that I will be having WLS . Its not medical clearance just a consult and if they feel you need any testing done then you will have to do that testing. For those of you that have already completed this , does the specialist give you a consult form filled out for your ins company ?? I'm starting to feel overwhelmed . Surgery tomorrow and I'm terrified

I feel the same way and I am not until August !! But I keep reassuring myself that this will be such a better lifestyle for me . And that the statistics of me dying of a heart attack because I'm overweight are much higher . Normal nerves I guess ??? You'll do great!! Keep us posted Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I have an estimated date of some time in August to be sleeved !! We have had a sweet sixteen cruise booked for my daughter that will take place in January 2017 . It's a 7 day cruise. I am so scared for what that will be like for me . My husband is also being sleeved in August . Will I be able to eat small portions at that time ?? It will be five months out. When should I be able to go back to work?
bellabeans replied to lcarter1227's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me one week to recover with no complications. But I have decided to take 2 weeks off just in case . Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I chose not to tell anyone at work , I'm just going to suddenly get sick for 2 weeks . I have saved all my sick time so I will still get paid . Thinking of saying appendicitis or gall bladder considering I've already had appendicitis as a child. What did everyone tell their jobs ?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I just got so upset I thought that HR gets copies of your hospital papers . I do not in any way want my HR lady to know my business . She's a bit yappy . Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I work in a hospital so I know there is plenty of coverage . Also my doctor is a surgeon for hernia repair, gall bladder and many other surgical situations . I however can not believe that human resources gets copies of your paperwork . That is a hippa violation in every way . I do not think the insurance company can share that information with your employer. That is a huge violation of your privacy . Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I just completed my consultation with my surgeon when I was making my appointments for my four months of monitored Weigh ins They gave me a packet full of doctors and specialist that I would have to see including a cardiologist nutritionist psychiatrist pulmonologist etc. prior to surgery. They told me I can get started on those appointments now. Just curious is this just for insurance criteria because my surgery is not until August. Will I still need to do pre surgical testing prior to surgery ?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How noticeable is the scarring ? It's definitely not a deal breaker for me . But I have no intentions of telling anyone except my husband. If anyone should see the scars would they know that I has WLS ? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Since I have started this journey (I'm only in the beginning fulfilling the insurance criteria) I have taken notice , it never really bothered me before) that people just ignore me, always nice in conversation, talk highly of me in work ethnic. But never really pay me much attention. I guess it's because I'm the chubby girl why talk to me when you can talk to all the skinny energetic girls?? I'm taking notes !! Further into my journey when people notice I will make sure to politely snub the ones who paid me no attention when I had on a little extra weight!! I am not feeling sorry for myself just observing people's behaviors. Is it really true people are much nicer to skinny people ?? Shame shame !! Anyone else notice this ?? I went to my first consult and I liked the doctor a lot, 4 weigh ins and a whole bunch of doctors to see . He made it sound like a breeze no problem 3 days to recover and return to work in one week . Says I will have surgery after my last weigh in July/ August . Office was packed with patients already sleeved and only saying good things. So what am I missing I thought this was going to be a long drawn out process ???? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Tomorrow is my first consult, what questions would you ask if it were you?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

For those of you that did not have to meet any insurance criteria, do you feel like you missed anything by not meeting with a nutritionist prior to surgery ?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How does it work ?? Your surgeon submits your papers for approval? My doctor is confirming my insurance before I even come for a consult . What are the steps before you get a date? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
