    Bariatric athletes/triathletes

This would be awesome!! I'm just under 8 weeks post op, and two weeks ago, I felt so great that I allowed my niece to talk me into a half marathon in November. I don't run. Luckily several people on here have given me some great advice as to what/how/and things to purchase that would be greatly needed. If it wasn't for them, I'd have no idea about any of this. And the moral support/motivation.....I need that!!

    Is it just me?

@@snugelkin Sounds like we share the same love for Coke. I did have some bad eating habits, but mainly it was my love for coke. I hate to admit this but after having my second son, I had a 12 pack a day habit. Funny how I could drink that much, but I struggle to get in any other fluids. Lol. He is 10 now, and it did subside over the years, but I did not go a day without at least one or two. Even through pre op. I was so worried about life after surgery and not drinking coke but the unexpected happened. I am going on 8 weeks post op and the only time I thought about it was when I realized I haven't wanted, craved, or missed my long time carbonated friend. If I take nothing away from this surgery other than me stopping my coke addiction, I consider it a HUGE success. Here's to wishing you the same blessing in disguise!!
  4. I was sleeved on 3/23 of this year. I too told my 10 year old son. He is not overweight yet, but I use this as an opportunity to spend time being active together. Plus....even if I think to put something bad in my mouth(carbs or sugar) he's sure to tell me "you aren't suppose to eat that". I like how I have my own little voice of reason when my self control try's to slip.

    American Food!

I too wasn't fond of the Isopure drinks, but I found them more tolerable over ice and mixed 1:1 with Water. The ones I liked best were the grape and blue raspberry, but there were a few I didn't try simply because I didn't care for the particular flavorings as a whole. I normally bought mine at GNC, but I know they can be ordered on most online sites. P3 snack packs are in abundance on the Gulf Coast. You can find them everywhere from Walmart/Target to pharmacies and gas stations. I prefer just regular deli meat and cheeses for lower sodium purposes, but will grab one or two for work just in case I forget to pack something.

    103 pounds down

Holy crap!! Congratulations on such a huge accomplishment. You look FANTASTIC!!!
  7. Mine was a capsule, and my surgeon allowed me to swallow them starting the third day. I've pretty much been swallowing all pills whole since. Depending on the size I will space them out as not to get too full and uncomfortable. I'm 7 weeks post op now.

    Loneliness

Yes it does, girl. Yes it does. I have been a prisoner to my mind on more than one occasion but I promise you it does get better. I know the time frame for everyone is different, but I will say I noticed a huge change for me in week 5. I'm not saying everyday is fabulous, but I have more good days then bad. You too will find your "calm". Just take it one day at a time.

    Loneliness

@@pinklantern I totally get where you are coming from. If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were pretty much describing what I've been dealing with the past 7 weeks. I've been pretty much a loaner most of my life and was ok with it, but what I didn't realize was how food played a huge part in making me ok with it until I had the surgery and couldn't eat. I'm not saying that is you just sharing what I'm dealing with. Anyway, I too can't seem to find anyone to do anything with and I very much struggle with doing things alone. It's hard, but I've started forcing myself to do things because I know I can't continue down this road of destruction. Haven't gotten out much, but I already see a vast adjustment mentally. Things will get better and if you ever want to talk about anything and everything, feel free to send me a message. I always enjoy meeting new people.

I have a very good childhood friend that is a ARNP and has 5 kids. Her reasoning....if you have one you might as well have 5. Lol Congratulations and good luck.

    Coworkers...

I am so with you on that. I'm 7 weeks post op, and except for a bad day that led to me buying a slice of chocolate cake, I haven't craved any of my old comfort foods. I figure if I'm not craving them, I am so not going to try it and possibly ruin a good thing. Even when u could only eat two bites. Lol. Speaking of coworkers....I work with a lady that had GB two years ago. She is constantly complaining that she has regained 40 pounds. I made the comment, in a nice way, that she is always eating chips. Her reasoning? When she eats Protein, she can't have very much before she gets full but she has discovered she can eat quite a bit of chips without them making her feel full and miserable. Seriously? The thought process of some people kill me!!
  13. @@dmyrna The head hunger is the worst. Ugh. I'm so sorry you are dealing with that. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Plus your body is detoxing from all those chemicals and carbs we loved so much. The whole pre diet is very intense but I am so proud of you for sticking with it and for not looking for ways to cheat. That shows you are committed and are ready to do what it takes. Give yourself a pat on the back. You will have bad days, good days and days you will completely question your decision to have the surgery, but I promise you will get through it and settle into the new normal and find yourself forgetting all the bad stuff.
  14. @@dmyrna One thing you will learn in this forum is that every person has various rules and recommendations given by their Nutritionist and Surgeon. Some pre ops are 2 weeks, some longer and some don't have any at all. Some are allowed solid meals all day, some like myself was only allowed 3 Protein shakes and one low carb meal a day, some only Protein Shakes, and some as yourself it sounds like clear liquids. You will also notice vast differences in post op diet as well. One thing I have learned is that regardless of what everyone else might be allowed, or is doing, I have to follow what my surgical team puts in line for me. If I trusted them enough to remove my stomach, I have got to trust them regarding my nutrition is well. It sucks I know...but you will get through this. I promise. Just keep coming back to this forum for motivation. The fabulous people on here are always willing to help.

    Miserable

Congratulations!!! I am just now 7 weeks out but I remember the ups and downs of those first two weeks very well. For me it was by about week 3 when I started feeling normal. I still have some down days, but for the most part I'm back to being somewhat normal functioning adult. Hang in there. You are not alone. This forum was the best thing for me, and still is, as I'm learning about my new way of living. Keep up the good work. You can do this!!!

    So many QUESTIONS HELP!

I am 5'6 and at the time 297. Other than being obese, I had no real health issues so I really didn't think my NP would agree to it. So...before I approached her, I contacted my insurance company to find out what all they would require, as well as did tons of research regarding the matter. I felt the more I was prepared, the better I would be at answering any of her questions. There were a few setbacks that caused the wait to be right at 6 months, but I'm 7 weeks post op today....and very thankful I had it done. Good luck.

    Ignorance, Senility, or NSV?

Is that what it's called @@KindaFamiliar We talked on the phone for a bit, then he will work up what he called a "proposal". That must be code for death wish. Lol. He will email that to me on Thursday and we go from there. Oh well. They say the toughest part is starting. I REALLY hope that's the case!!

    Ignorance, Senility, or NSV?

So in keeping you guys updated, I remembered I had a friend that is a triathlete and asked if she could suggest someone I talk too prior to me just hitting the open road. Well that led me to emailing her trainer. He replied asking if we could talk on the phone so he could get a better idea as to what my needs are. Thinking he was just a normal trainer, I said sure. Turns out he is a USA Triathlon Certified trainer. I have never been so scared to talk to someone before in my life. How do I end up in these situations?!?!? Lol
