I have the same insurance in NY.... I've read and re-read the policy, mine doesn't even say it has to be medically supervised and it does not mention anything about weight loss... My surgeon said its your weight about the first appointment that gets submitted, he requires weight loss before he'll do the surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm in NY, where are you? The seminar I went to excellent... If you go to the website of most surgeons they have seminars you can register for to do online... Hi All, Looking to find someone who may be a teacher in NYC or someone else with this type of insurance. Had my first consult with the surgeon today, loved her. The guy who handles the insurance is giving me information not stated in the plan. I'm going to post what the plan says and maybe someone out there can tell me what kind of things fall under 6 months continuous. Obesity is a disease, it needs treatment not delays to treatment... There is no other disease we could have that's met with denial of treatment nor being forced to prove what you have done to treat it... I have not been denied as of yet... I'm preparing in the event that happens... If you read the online there is no medical research to support that a six month diet will have any impact on obesity... Obesity has been determined to be a disease by the AMA in April 2014... Diseases need treatment not waiting period... It's a bias policy that works to promote society's bias of obese people... It assumes obese people don't have the knowledge regarding health eating etc... It's disgraceful that obesity is the only disease where you have to fight to get treatment and prove your efforts... Skin cancer patients aren't ask to prove they used sunscreen... No other disease requires you to provide proof of your effort to manage the disease. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I wish there was a way to publish the entire patient guide on here... This was the third doctor I went to see, the only one who provided in depth info.. Hi I'm new here and tend to not be quick to believe things either... Was this surgeon experienced in this type of surgery? What type of pre-surgical testing did your friend have? Did she have an existing heart condition? What did she weight before the surgery? Many on here like me who are pre-op do get frighten from these post but please tell the entire story.
