Those who drink diet pop post-op {Only nice comments PLEASE}

Like someone else mention, when I attended the seminar this question came up. The surgeon conducted the seminar. He said you can try carbonated drinks such as beer, soda but you most likely won't like the way the sleeve reacts. He did say it would create a full feeling and gas. I like this surgeon who I will be using because he didn't speak in terms of do's and dont's in excess. He gave tons of information, I feel that's the most important tool in adjusting to life after WLS. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I feel these "requirements" are driven by money rather than medical research.I agree with appealing, don't accept no for an answer. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I turn these comments into a joke with responses like what would you like me to leave you in my will? Or well I guess my weight struggle will be over quicker than I had planned.... I don't pass judgement on what others do as everyone has to do what's best for them Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I get that one about people dying from weight loss surgery, odd how the whole world seems to know someone who died from it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

People are judgmental, weight loss surgery is just another thing to add to the list... If you give it some thought the same people probably have had something to say if you changed you hair color, got a new item etc.... It's just might sting a little more because first we are getting judged for being obese than we're getting judged for trying to getting a tool that can help us overcome being obese... It's a no win situation.... At the end of the day, as long as we are healthier who cares how we got here... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I agree with this, sadly this is what we're forced to do to get the treatment we need... I would suggest filling a change purse with coins and putting in your pocket. Along with cell phone etc... I haven't been denied yet but in several conversation with the insurance I can't get a clear answer regarding their requirements... What they say on the phone is more involved than what is in writing.... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Just say you have been on a Protein diet... People have opinions, what people needs to learn is they don't need to share all of them.. Deciding to have surgery is a big step, you need support not doubters... Tune them out, as they say haters are going to hate. Btw I'm 45 and struggled with weight for what seems like 45 years that has the stigma's too. I just think had this surgery been more widely known about when I was 23 I much rather have lived with the stigma of being told why did you have surgery. Anyone not have to do 2 weeks diet pre op?
Read2016 replied to Janiegirl1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No liquid diet where I'll be having the surgery... To me that makes sense, you don't want to have someone in a weaken state heading into surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
During the brief conversation I had when I met him at the seminar, he said we will work together to figure that out when we meet. My guess would be it would be like 5- 10 % of current weight... I'm great at loosing weight, it's keeping it off that's my problem. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My surgeon doesn't require a post op liquid diet but he does require weight loss prior to surgery... This is a hard journey and long term obesity isn't easy either... Just try to remind yourself why your doing it... Don't beat yourself up. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
