@@Christinamo7, not sure if it's like this where you live but here in NY you could be driven nuts if they find anything slightly off in test results... It's see this doctor, oh they didn't find anything so now see this doctor. It could turn outhouse seen by 5 or 6 different doctors for one out of the normal test results. It's very nerve wrecking so I feel for ya... Keep us posted Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Dont know where to start

I would say it depends on what kind of insurance you have, mine doesn't require referrals so I was able to call surgeon's office directly to schedule the appointment... Be sure to research the surgeon you select... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I'm still pre-op... I just keep the vision of the shopping spree I'll be having in my mind... In this vision I'm actually able to fit into designer clothes of my choice rather than being stuck wearing only pants/jeans that stretch and stretch. I would love to be at a stable size... My closets often remind me of a store, when I open them it's reminder of my various success and failures of dieting due to the range of sizes I have... Since considering surgery it the first time I'm not giving away clothes that don't currently fit. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Personally I don't think you missing anything... In the tech age I think people just like to have gadgets connecting with as many things as possible... Personally I like keep it simple, how many steps have a gone and how many more to go to meet my goal on a given day... I have an older version of the wrist fit bit, I found it often picked up movements of the hand as a step... I do talk with my hands, maybe that's burns calories that I had not thought of lok Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

@@psvzum if you have to explain WLS to everyone who has negative comments about it, it's going to become a full-time job for you and it's not worth the hassle... People will think what they want, you only need to account to yourself and know you have made the best decision for you. The struggle is real and if you haven't had the struggle it's hard to understand... Be well and keep your focus on your journey. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

@finallyfit50's your encouragement is so sweet.. I'm just not feeling me right now. While I have more closets full of clothes than a person should have( after surgery would love to be able to give them to someone who may be struggling to afford new clothes). I'm just not liking how I look in anything... Last Summer I was at a much better place and had fun with dating...I've always struggled with my weight but this is the worst it's ever been... One thing I learned about dating, don't do it when your feeling at your worst. I feel, that were so judged by what we weigh as women... I do live in NY so I think that occurs here more than in other parts of the country... I know this is a pre-surgery kind of feeling... I knew I was fat but ever since being labeled as obese that has really been a lot to process, I meet with a third and hopefully final surgeon on Wednesday so I think when surgery becomes more of a realty I'll be feeling better... I've spent about 6 months of the past year in a sort of denial as the obesity problem grew worse. Please keep me posted about how it all turns out for you, your very supportive Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

If you google about low Vitamin D, when combined with other things such as pre diabetes etc... It can cause insulin resistance or a syndrome called metabolic X... Don't see too much info on here about these... They may be more of concerns for pre-op people. I had Low Vitamin D combined with pre-diabetes, when I finally went to an endocrinologist they figured out I had mild pcos which was a factor in why dealing with loosing weight was so difficult.. I took a dose of vitamin D once a week for a number of years until my levels got high enough they took me off it... I found it felt better taking the RX vitamin D Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Obesity and Nature Versus Nurture: What Do You Think?
Read2016 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think post surgery the answer would be who cares because you now have a tool to help you... I'm pre-op so I have been thinking about how did I get here... I do believe your genes influence your weight... I do believe if you came from the house where you were taught to clean your plate because there are people starving in Africa, you learn the wrong message about food early on... You get over fed, than you get fat... Than you get reminded how your fat and than food becomes more forbidden and negative... Next thing you start to find comfort in food, yet you know this is the thing that has made you fat.. In many ways it could be compared to the abused child who marries a partner who abuses them...I think the nurture part of it is deep and complicated. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
