I'm pre-op... Healthy eating practices would indicate you can live on just shakes for the long term... It's like turning the sleeve into a binge diet... Try some ground turkey or chicken, add season to make it flavorful, top it with some cheese... These early days are for retraining the stomach, shakes only are a bad thing to teach it. How have people responded to your weghtloss?
Read2016 replied to reachbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm planning to tell people I'm following a high Protein diet under doctor supervision... When I get to the final result I may be more opened... I would not be comfortable saying I had surgery until I'm sure it resulted in significant weight loss... Odds seem to be in my favor that it will, don't want to jinx it. The alcoholic has a sort of sympathy from society, their addicted, poor thing they can't help it... Obese people have a problem relationship with food, I'll go as far as to say we addicted to it much like the alcoholic is addict to alcohol... The obese person is viewed by society as the person who can't stop eating and does not exercise.... The cure for alcoholism isn't surgery, obese gets a surgery to help with it... People can't connect those dots, no matter how much you explain.. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Take all the pictures you can... My guess is if the doctor writes it correctly you will get it... The doctor may have to be willing to fight for you... Start documenting all the ways the extra skin is hindering your activities of daily living, can't tie your shoe etc.... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

@@lcarter1227 I'm still pre-op but was at an all inclusive resort in DR about 6 months ago... They had buffets for every meal... While they could be a source of overeating, they are also a source of great choice... Have a blast Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Medications to help with food cravings?

Have you tried researching herbs that may suppress your appetite? Something like chromium pliconate, less side effects... All these prescription weight loss drugs have unwelcome sided effects.. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I'm in NY, have had psych consult, nut visit, some blood work and consult with the surgeon... Now it's a matter of getting paperwork in order to submit to insurance... I'm scheduled for an upper GI X-ray series and hoping for July surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Week 1 post op but can stomach solids...
Read2016 replied to Aimee-Belle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why test the sleeve? If something goes wrong, it's not going to be worth it... Hard to asses how your stomach is healing quick when you have no way to see inside you... Maybe the way the prepare you for this surgery in UK is much different than we do here in the states.. If you can't say it nicely, don't say. It's not what you say but how you say. Just because we're behind a screen doesn't give us license to take a tone. Some on here do speak like they are grus of WLS, none of us would be here if we haven't struggled with the weight. A surgery might removed the physical struggle, the mental struggle is harder to overcome. If food has being a comfort and your uncomfortable after surgery, your go to comfort item has been taking away... Going to take a hot minute to wrap your head around that reality. Read2016 replied to GinaCampbell's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your a strong person, you got this... I'm pre-op and I tend to think if I want to go off track in the early days I'll remind myself I just had 80% of my stomach taken out because of all the times I made bad food choices... I feel if don't get this right after the surgery I got no more choices left... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

@deuel130... As a nyer I tend to be a bit skeptical of things, I should keep my mouth shut... I just have to say the Oband centers are on the radio here with an ad every 2 seconds... Anything medical care advertising that much makes me want to run the other way... Having a procedure at a center isn't a good idea, they just don't have the resources in the event there is a complications... This is surgery you want to set yourself up for optimal conditions... A center just can't provide the level of care a hospital can... These Oband centers are very new, what is the doctor's level of experience?... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

PCP Appointment Advice?
Read2016 replied to martypants's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the event she is opposed to it, I would ask if the surgeon has a pcp he could recommend.. The fact you were given info. On weight loss says to me the pcp wanted you to take a next step to do something about loosing weight... Getting all your previous medical records sent to her should make her feel more comfortable in writing the letter of support... Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
@deuel30... Using an out of network usually means more money out of your pocket, ask about that... They told me any doctor that recorded your weight will work, a Gyn, a primary care etc... Are you getting a lapband? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
