    What?! How? Why?

I am just going to rant and bitch on this so I can vent without repeating myself on the threads. I started this research after visiting with my sister in NJ. Her brother in law had GB and looked amazing. He was about 200lbs overweight. I'm like 68 - 103 depending on what part of my BMI scale I should be at. I think GB is too risky for my taste so I decided to look into LB. I feel that this is the only way I can get my weight under control. I've read and read and researched and been to the seminars and chatted and been in the forum and talked to friends and family about it. I get all confused with everyone's imput. When I put everyone else's comments and feelings aside and focus on just mine. I know I can do this even if I'm scared. I want to look in my mirror and not cry b/c I'm so ashamed of myself, by body my lack of self control, lack of dedication to exercise, making excuses, putting myself after everyone else, not taking control of this problem before it got this bad. I want to be proud of myself b/c I did something for me and my future as a person. I am glad I found this website. It has been such an inspiration to know that I'm not alone in this journey. Thanks to all.

    Not getting banded

Well my insurance rejected me so I'm not getting banded. It's okay though. I decided to attack the fat anyway. I've got monthly appointments with my doctor and a dietitian and I'm going to give it everything I've got and see what happens. Good Luck to everyone out there.

    Not getting banded

I don't have co-mobitities and my BMI was 37.1. So they said I didn't meet the requirements. My BP is normal 120/68, no blood sugar issues, no heart problems, no cholesteral issues. I have been working with the dietian and my PCP for 4 weeks and have lost 10 pounds so I don't think they are going to appeal it. Thank you for your support.

    Rejected by my Insurance

I just got my letter yesterday rejecting my claim. I am so bummed out. I'm under the 40 BMI and BCBS says my other medical problems are not life threatening. So I can go through appeals or self pay. I really am not in the finiancial place to take out another loan so I guess I'll have to wait.

  7. I am going to my consult tomorrow morning and the psych eval in the afternoon, my surgeon recommends doing them both in the same day so things move faster. For the last few weeks I've been getting a lot of pressure from my friends and family except my wonderful hubby, to forget about surgery. Everyone love me and really don't believe that I'm 204lbs since I carry it all between my breasts and knees. I can dress to hide most of it. I'm so confused now. I almost cancelled my appointments b/c no one but hubby are supportive. Hubby wants me to do what makes me happy and healthy. He doesn't care about my weight, he chalks it up to me giving him 2 babies that were too big for me to carry well. Any encouragement would be great.
  8. My family doc here is so supportive, she takes time to talk to you and has a great sense of humor. When I told her about it she asked me what I knew already and if I was prepared for the emotion toll it would take on me. After we talked a while she said she hoped it worked out and she approved of the surgeon I choose since she knows him and his work. She sends a lot of gall bladder patients his way. My doc is very well educated and keeps up with the latest and greatest in medicine. She didn't try to derail me just made sure I knew what I was getting into. (hopefully I'll be getting into a size 8 one day)

    Second Thoughts

You are so right, I have found wonderful support and tons on info from everyone I've come into contact with on this forum. I decided to go on with it. I am just dying from the wait with the insurance.
  10. I've just been diagnosed with adult ADHD and was put on Strattera. My doc says it won't interfere with the banding process. I actually feel much calmer. I think that dealing with the ADHD will make my banding more successful since I'll be able to plan and prioritize better. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> Anyone else in this situation?<o:p></o:p>
  11. I was very blessed recently, I now take strattera for my ADHD and one of the side effects is appitite loss:lol:. How great is that?! I pack my lunch yesterday for work, a nice big salad with turkey. I forgot to take my lunch break b/c I wasn't hungry and only ate a little of it later on my break. It was so weird then I only ate about half of what I usually do for dinner. I think food is a distraction from life for me (and others too) once I could focus on other things I've not been obsessed with food.

Kris, Rock on! It's awesome that you've already lost weight. It look like we are in about the same goal range, I want to lose about 80-85lbs.

    dating for my 20's banders

I am about 30 miles south of Fredericksburg/30 miles north of Richmond along the I-95 corridor **Most guys I talk to are in shape, they're Marines since that's who I work for, tell me they don't like those model skinny girls, they'd rather have a girl whose curvy or thick and isn't afraid to eat a real meal with them on a date. So don't worry why just enjoy the ride.

    Adult ADHD and Banding?

My doc put me on Strattera, its the non stimulate med but takes about a month to reach full effectiveness. It is a capsule vs a tablet (I don't know what the others are) so even if it got stuck the outer part dissolves eventually and will pass without a problem. If your pill is a tablet you can get a pill cutter and chop it up into smaller pieces. I also take St. John's Wart capsules to assist with mood control. That works well too. I can feel your pain I am 27 and finally have been diagnosed. I had been in a 2 week mental out patient program for depression and suicidal thoughts and no one bothered to assess my other symptoms. I could have had help for this a year ago if they had. They just doped me up on Lexapro and Xanax. I quit taking those two. I think getting the ADHD under control will benefit me b/c I've always struggled with planning meals and following diets b/c I forget so much and end up running all over the place in an erratic pattern. So once I add the lap band I should be well equipt to continue on the path to a new healthy life style.

    Second Thoughts

i had weight problems before the kid but I kept it under control with exercise 5 times a week, but we all know kids kill your old schedule of doing things. I gained 45lb with my 1st, a boy and delievered by c-section then got preg. with #2 (a girl) when my son was 15 months old and gain another 32 with her and had another c-section. Then I had my gall bladder out in 2006. My body is pretty trashed from the pregnacies. (son was 8lb 9oz 3weeks early, daughter 8lb 1/2 oz 2weeks early) then I had depression issues and meds that added to the weight struggle.
  18. I'd like to lose a chihuahua (makes me think of taco bell so he needs to go for sure) twin 2 year olds (they make you crazy) and a cinderblock (carrying that around is bad for my back) = 83lbs wow what fun

    Why are YOU Fat?

I am that emotional eater that no matter the emotion food is the fix. Plus I always felt like I was trapped in chaos. Then I had problems with depression and was put on meds that effected weight. So I had planning problems, eat on the go, shop like my "plump" mother does. I just thought I was destined to be a fatty. A new thing happened to me, I've just been diagnosed with adult ADHD and was put on Strattera. I think that dealing with the ADHD will make my banding more successful since I'll be able to plan and prioritize better. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p>

    The ULTIMATE weightloss list

Love that list too. I understand the "Why is HE with HER" one my hubby is a hot 6'3" singer in a rock band and I'm a round 5'2" tag along.

    dating for my 20's banders

I've dated those super hot guys too, in fact I married to one, he's 6'3" and muscular plus he's a singer in a local rock band OMG talk about the pressure. These kinds of guys are worried about how they look b/c they have self image issues too. If they are coming to you then you have a quaility they like. You choose to loose weight to be healthy, these are the ones that can respect that. They will value you for you strength, dedication and honesty. Don't let yourself miss out on something good b/c you think you're not hot enough for them. If you are still having negitive feelings of self worth then go to a behavioral theropist to work it out. You'll thank yourself for investing in you emotional health just as much as your physical health.

You all are so wonderful. I did go to the consult and had the psych eval, both went great, waiting for ins approval now. I decided to ask those in my life that don't understand/support my decision to come to a support group and if they don't want to I'll be cool but tell them that I'm not going to listen to anything they say about it b/c they refuse to educate themselves. I've really backed off discussing it much with those people. DH is happy for me and that is all that really matters to me. He's the best thing that ever happened to me so if he's behind it then I can trust my own choice.

    in the 20's pre-band

well i went to the consult and did the psych eval yesterday. the doc thinks I'll get approved by ins b/c my waist measured 44 in which is way over what a female should have, plus the joint problems, the prior depression and gall stones. The psych chick was so impress about how much thought and research I put into this. Plus with my prior depression treatment that I am continuing to help with the behavior changes, I have already address the emotional eating stuff. now it's just the waiting on the ins ugh!

    How to deal

How do you deal with people's comments that you don't need surgery...you can lose it on your own...there are risks....blah blah blah negitivity everywhere. I have people telling me what I can and can't do like I don't know that you can lose weight without surgery but not everyone can and keep it off. I hate people telling me oh you're fine the way you are, you shouldn't have surgery. They don't understand how I feel or what I've been though the last 11 years bouncing up and down on the scale or breaking that I'm never going to be X number of pounds and then you wake up and you are. People ask me questions and then jump up on their soap boxes. I can't stand it!!:tongue2:
