    Hope

I'm going through the process and am looking forward to having a date. I think when I have a solid date I will be elated!! I have had a weight problem ever since having my children also. It was a good excuse when they were little but now that they are 15 and 20 and my weight kept on climbing and climbing (right now 341) I have no one to blame but me. I wish you the best of luck and hope to keep up with all the others starting with this journey right now!
  4. Thanks for the encouragement! This site has been helping me out so much in making my decision. I get so much out of reading other's posts and getting feedback to my questions. I need to keep my courage up and remember improving my health and well being is the best prize ever.
  5. I have contacted my insurance and seen my primary doctor who was more than happy to write me a letter for approval with my insurance UHC. So far, so good just checking things off the list, blood work and appointment with the surgeon is next. But each day I ask myself...why can't I just do this on my own and I am very fearful about having complications. And I know it is kind of shallow of me but the thought of never having a soda again makes me sad. Are most of you out there happy you had the surgery done?
  6. Thank you everyone for all the information! I love this site, reading through so many threads yesterday I finally feel like I have some idea of where I'm going and what to expect. It really helped me out. Have a wonderful day!
  7. Nope. I'm from Frederick, Maryland.
  8. I have a seminar on Wednesday too! I'll let you know how it goes at the one I attend. The surgeon I chose just recently saved my husband's live! His appendix ruptured. I probably never would have considered the surgery had I not met the surgeon through my husband's experience. Weird how things work out that way sometimes. My BMI is 54...but most days I feel more like a 33.
  9. Thanks Joy. Yeah I called my insurance company...they were vague. They told me it is done by a case to case basis and I would have to get my doctor to submit a letter to the company to get approval for the procedure.
  10. I am going to a information lecture this week, the first step in the journey towards getting lap band surgery. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of pre-op hoops that need to be jumped through. Do you have to go on a diet first? What kind of tests need to be done? What do the insurance companies require? Any advice would be welcome. It's all new to me.
