    Pre-op Shopping

Well TM, you're probably not nearly as large as me. My BMI is 61, so I have more to lose, and need more liquid diet, to lose weight, and shrink my liver. Good luck on your journey. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-op Shopping

Taramarie.....are you on a liquid diet? My surgery is 4/18, and I drink Atkins 2 carb Protein drinks. There are 5 or 6 different drinks, and I have 5 per day, for 800 calories. I also drink broth. Beef, vegetable, and chicken. Broth never tasted so good. Are you talking after surgery? If u are, I haven't started that yet. My wife will do that, according to the doctor's instructions. Any other questions, I'll b here. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. Kelly.....I'm having it too on 4/18. It's been a long time coming. Like you, I'm excited, nervous, and rarin to go. A bundle of emotions. Good Luck to you Kelly, and keep in touch. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. Like Kindle said...Don't compare yourself to others. Follow the plan, (don't lie to yourself), and you'll lose weight. I have lost 75 lbs, in 3 months (mostly water/fluid), but weight loss nonetheless. On the liquid pre op, I've had one week of what's called a "stall". 800 cal/day, and no weight loss one of the week's. That is tough to swallow, but you have to stay focused. The next 2 weeks, I lost 17 lbs. Also...Weigh in once/wk...twice at the most. Don't obsess over the scale. Also...WATER..WATER..WATER...drink your water. It's a challenge for me, but I get it done. Surgery on 4/18. My goal is another 175...I'll do it too. Wish me luck...and Good Luck to everyone on their journey.
  5. Andi...I'm on for 4/18, and nervous, excited and rarin to go. A bundle of emotions, I'm sure like everyone else. I have had surgery before, so I know what to expect. (sort of). I have a great surgeon, an awesome nurse/coordinator, and am in good hands. I've lost 80 lbs. on my own, and 175 to go. I'm already thinking about the skin surgery. I feel great, and looking forward to feeling even better. Good Luck with your journey. Andi...I'm on for 4/18, and nervous, excited and rarin to go. A bundle of emotions, I'm sure like everyone else. Liquid diet day 2-STRUGGLING

Tiffmarie....As you've read...the first 3-5 days can be rough. You have to be focused and STRONG!!!!. I visualize all the food I ate to get me to 400 lbs., and it keeps me on track. Don't forget broth. You will appreciate broth. Watch the sodium. You can expect to lose 15-20 lbs. too. You know the pre op shrinks your liver, and results in weight loss. We have similar BMI's, so we need to lose more weight. I've been on my liquid diet for a over a month, and have 12 days to go. You can do it. Don't be around a lot of food/eating. It makes it much harder. TV is bad for food commercials, so hopefully you have a remote.I don't. Yes tacos are delicious, but weight loss is better. 80 lbs. for me.175 to go....GOOD LUCK. Curious CPAP question for ya'll

Sandy GS...Mel from Green Bay here. sleep Apnea, must be treated with ABSOLUTE concern. I have had it since God no's when? I was diagnosed around the year 2000. I went through the sleep study, and had many, many sleep disturbances. (I don't remember the number). I was put on a sleep machine, which went unused. The mask didn't fit, and it just didn't work properly. I'm sure I could have tried a little more, and been more compliant. After years of crappy sleep, (sleep 4-5 hrs. get up for 4 hrs. and go back to sleep for 3 hrs.) I decided to get this straightened out. SHAZAM!!!!!! I received a new CPAP, and my life has changed. I sleep 7-9 hrs.straight through, (1 bathroom visit/night). The technology has changed so much, I can't believe it. As far as payment...I rent the machine, and eventually the ins.company will buy it for me. The company I deal with, can see through a computer chip, all my sleep info. (time usage, sleep disturbances, mask fit information etc.). So I do have pretty good insurance. They do cover mask, filter, hose replacement, with the usual co pay. As far as people not using their machines?, I'm sure there are people like the way I used to be, but with the new machines, it really shouldn't be a problem. Folks with apnea, need to use their machines every night, if possible. Strokes and heart attacks are caused by untreated apnea. Untreated apnea causes the heart to work overtime, and will raise your BP, while you sleep. And anyone who suffers from it, knows how damn tired you are the next day. EXHAUSTED!!! was the name of my game. Without getting too dramatic...my CPAP, has changed my life. Good Luck.

    My Story

Ladies, we will all have to forgive those people who talked doo doo about us. We have to get our heads healthy too. Our bodies will look awesome, but our heads will have to follow. If we don't forgive those who wronged us, we are going to suffer at the dinner table. As we all should know, this is for us, no one else. Some people will try and bring us down. Don't let them. Let's be strong, and let our inner selves thrive. The person we always wanted to be. Again, good luck and keep me posted. Mel from Green Bay Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Erik as it gets closer, my date is 4/18, I'm getting anxious/nervous too. I've been over 450 lbs for 5 years now, (I'm 400 now after the pre op diet) so I'm ready to turn back the clock. I was where u were at until the age of 25, but then beer and late night eating took over. You seem to be someone who works out, but occasionally likes to binge. Yes you wouldn't want to be like me. Actually 100 of my pounds was from LYMPHEDEMA, which is an affliction that affects many morbidly obese people. Nonetheless, my problems were from poor choices, but this surgery will increase my life span, as it will yours. I'm excited for my new life, (I already feel great from the 80 lb weight loss), and you will be running ultra marathons. My running days are over, but I look forward to visiting Florida again, where we used to have vacation all the time. Again, good luck, and keep me updated. And try and stay calm, you're going to be just fine. Mel from Green Bay. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Erik, I don't know your age, (I'm 55), but I know where you're coming from. Although I do weigh 400, my healthy weight (muscle mass/fat percentage) is around 250 to 270. Oh I forgot I'm 5'9 as well. Obviously I need surgery, but as far as yourself, I can see the concern. When u say belly, are you talking fat? I'm guessing u are. As far as eating habits, do u eat clean? Alcohol use? I know what the charts say, we shouldn't weigh over 183, I believe. As far as BMI, you know it doesn't take muscle mass into account. Are u self paying? If not, and insurance is paying, then obviously they're in agreement. I'm guessing you've done the research on the surgery. Only you can decide, it's your body. Do you yo yo a lot? You will lose weight, so it's a positive move. I do hope you make the right decision for yourself, and your journey. Keep me posted. Good Luck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    My Story

Good luck Mom/3minions. I wish I would have had surgery at 30, my life would have been drastically more healthy. You will be so much more energetic, and active. I'd like to say happier, but that is hard to predict. I am finally getting sleeved at the age of 55. In 2 weeks, I'll b starting my journey. You will do wonderfully, and I wish you all the luck in the world. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. Congrats reree.......you look amazing. What an incredible transformation. Your hard work has paid off. I'm getting sleeved in 2 weeks, and will have lost 90 lbs on my own, with 175 to go. I'm a wee bit bigger than you were ....LOL. Wish me luck, and much success on your continued journey. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. Hi guys....I just want to say I feel your pain, but you must stay focused, and patient. I met with my surgeon the first time at the end of Oct. 2014...that's right Oct. 2014. I am finally getting my sleeve on 4/18...yahoo!!!!! My surgeon didn't think I was making the appropriate progress. He is very strict, (which I like), and the extra time, although frustrating, was necessary to get my HEAD ready. It's not a race, it's a lifetime commitment. You"ll all succeed at differing rates, so take the time to really analyze your eating habits, and pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses. By the time I'm sleeved, I will have lost 90 lbs. on my own. I have about 175 to go after that. I wish you all, the best and healthiest journey, on your way to your final goal. And if you get frustrated, think of my 536 day journey.. Good luck!!! 14. Good luck with everything. I am scheduled on 4/18, and I can't wait to start a new life. My journey has been a long time coming, and I am looking forward to losing about 175 lbs. (I've already lost 80 lbs on my own). My journey so far, has given me a chance to analyze my past eating habits, and I look forward to a healthier future. I wish you all the success in the world. First time posting! Broth prep?

I just buy my broth, beef, chicken and vegetable. I am fairly pleased with the taste. Sodium is always a concern, so if you go my route, read the nutritional info. Different products, have varying sodium levels. It's just easier keeping track that way. Good luck with your journey. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
