My balloon was placed this afternoon. Was at the hospital at 11am, insertion at 1:05 and in recovery room by 1:40 and back at home around 4pm. They gave me zofran and amind along with two IV bags of fluid and the doctor said I should be okay (not dehydrated) for at least 24hrs. Thank god because I'm nauseous and vomiting. The vomiting isn't too bad I just wish I didn't have to vomit. The doctor said I should be getting up and walking around to help the balloon adjust or settle into my stomach. Also, she said to sleep on my right side to help get the balloon adjusted otherwise it will feel like it is pushing against my ribcage. I have a nasty headache and tried Tylenol capsules but I ended up throwing it up. I took some children's liquid Tylenol and that seems to have stayed down. Okay, I'm going to try to sleep and have some ginger tea. Any other suggestions? I'm taking zofran and phenergan to help with the nausea but it's still there.

I would definitely stock up on the popsicles and Fiber rich or fiber supplement. The popsicles have been my go to treat. I was really constipated the first week and wish I would have started a fiber supplement (benefiber) before and after the balloon placement. -
i did get the patch along with Zofran and phenergan, so I'm a bit surprised it doesn't seem to help with the nausea and vomiting. My intake of drinks seem so low, so I'm going to try popsicle along with some Isopure. i'm too afraid to drink the premier Protein shakes because it not a light beverage. Every time I hiccup or burp and I get scared I'm going to vomit. Also, I am trying everything I can to get comfortable and sleeping on my left seems to make me the most comfortable. Thank you all for reading my posts and giving me feedback and encouragement! I really need it!!

I am getting my balloon placed on Friday and I'm N-E-R-V-O-U-S. I've stocked my fridge with premier protein drinks, Isopure drinks, gatorade , jello and yogurt drinks. Even though I feel like I've prepared the best I can, I've got a few questions and would love any feedback. How long did you stay at the hospital after the placement? I'm thinking the sooner I can leave the hospital the more comfortable I can get at home. The nurse told me between her and the NP they will be calling me every day for the first week. Is this typical with everyone else? I'm really hoping I can drink fluids afterward and avoid getting dehydrated. How soon did everyone start drinking fluids? I'm confused about sipping on drinks versus normal drinking. My nurse told me that I should be able to drink normally once I get home. I've read that you should sip on drinks... I have the patch and zofran and really hoping to avoid nausea and vomiting so I can tolerate drinking. I can't believe I'm going in about 6 days after for a postop. How did everyone do with those first couple of postop visits? Could you drive yourself? Am I forgetting anything? Wish me luck!!!

I'm getting the Orbera balloon and I live in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks for the feedback. I'll be sure to check in the next couple of days.

Gastric Balloon Procedure Booked!
myrlmn replied to islesdriveforfive's topic in Gastric Balloon Forum
On April 29th, I will be having my balloon inserted. My dietician wanted me to join a support group so here I am! I am nervous and have a lot of self doubt about having the balloon. I'm most nervous about the first 1-2 weeks after but especially the first 72 hours post op. Does any one have suggestions to alleviate headaches? I can get pretty bad headaches along with migraines. My doctor is prescribing me Zofran, Prilosec, a muscle spasm med (can't remember the name) and Valium. They said no NSAIDs while I have the balloon. The dietician explained that the nausea and vomiting come from the body trying to 'reject' the balloon from the stomach. Any suggestions with meal planning? I have a family and will need to cook for them, not in the first few days but eventually they are going to want meals! Also, how much Protein is your dietician recommending? Mine wants me to have 60grams x day. I think I need to keep reading positive posts and remember the end prize = the weight loss.
