United healthcare Bariatric program
ChickenChick replied to janedoe92's topic in Insurance & Financing
My problem is...I don't want to bug people. I know it's probably better if I did, I just can't do it - I'm not wired that way. I'll probably check in again on Monday (but I'll second guess myself first, ha). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Mine (Optum Nurse) happen to be in vacation when I messaged her, so a few days later that's when I called UHC directly. Then when she came back she said the same thing they told me over the phone. That was reassuring. But waiting sucks, especially knowing some lucky people get and answer in a few days or even a few weeks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Yes, I called them twice. Always still pending review. My doctor's office said they are checking everyday, so it helps knowing that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Still no word from UHC on if they'll approve (or deny) coverage for my surgery. It was submitted on Aug 14 so tomorrow is a month (30 days). October 26th is 30 business days, so I guess I'll have to hold out until then if nothing comes in from them on Monday. My PCP took me off my cholesterol medicine since it's not helping (I've tried two kinds) and it's making my liver enzymes high. (Ultrasound and MORE blood work is ordered - just had blood work done last week and now I get to do it again) She's asking for authorization for Praluent, an injectable cholesterol lowering drug. The drug without insurance is $1,200/month or $14,400/year. It looks like it will run me around $140/month if they agree to cover it under my prescription plan. I'm guessing the only silver lining for having to wait over a month for them to review is that if they happen to see that Praluent is being ordered, maybe they'll be more inclined to pay for a $12,000 surgery vs. paying $14,000/year for cholesterol medicine. Or perhaps it MAY help in an appeal if they deny surgery. I'm trying to stay positive. -

Submitted to insurance or they approved you and it was sent to your doctor?I thought about emailing my Optum nurse today just to check in, but decided to wait until Wednesday. The waiting is the worst! I almost want to start researching the appeal process because I'm terrified that's what's coming (a denial). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App No, they finally submitted everything today to my insurance company. She said it does not take long to get a responds for an approval, so I should here back soon. She states that they will give them the max of 30days but it's usually way quicker thn that because there coordinator works with only works with one person from uhc. So it makes turn aroubd time quick and easyGood Luck!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I know what you mean. It's hard to think no news is good news, when they could be scrutinizing everything to deny coverage. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I had my final (6) visit on Monday, Sept 12th and my Optum nurse said the surgeon's office submitted my records on Wed, Sept 14th and was 'pending review'. So we shall see. I'm obviously nervous that something is missing and/or I won't be approved for some haywire reason. I'm also anxious to know how long it will take to get a surgery date and how far out the surgeon is scheduled (IF I'm approved). -

I wasn't opposed to doing it again, but I was going to at least be persistent to TRY to get the one I've already done. Plus, who knows if my insurance would pay for another one. Nonetheless, the new surgeon has it now! Stoked! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I found PsyMed, Inc has a Facebook page, so I messaged them. Also, I accidentally stumbled across the email address of the CEO of PsyMed, Inc. I hope they reply to my FB message this week, or I may have to email Dwayne . I'd hate to interrupt his Napa Valley visit. I suppose having a technology background means it might not have been accidental, but whatever...I just want my records. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App My records for my psych eval was finally sent to Dr. Fass' office. One more appointment on 9/12 and then it'll be submitted to insurance. How am I coming along? I'm feeling a little frustrated today. After 3 tries to get my psych evaluation (done by a contracted Psychologist through True Results), I've been ignored. Dr. Fass' office said they can't request them for me, which I found odd, but maybe there are rules/laws with mental health records - who knows. I know my faxes and phone calls have gone unanswered and it's super frustrating. I have one appointment left (on Aug 12th) and if I had my psych eval to give to Dr. Fass we would be able to submit to insurance soon after that appointment. I'm at a loss on what to do, so I messaged my insurance nurse to see if she had any ideas, and if not would my insurance cover another psych evaluation. I'm about to see if my PCP would request the records for me - I'm feeling desperate. -

It's like any regular gastric sleeve except an "added" measure (not instead of) of stitching the stapled part. I had to YouTube it before. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
