Dr. Alvarez Reviews

I know this is an older post but I am waiting to hear back from Susan. Do they offer any financing? I don't have the 8900 readily available. No, they don't do financing, at least not when I went last year. I did a loan with Lightstream to finance my surgery. Has anyone had surgery with Dr. Alvarez?
VSGButterfly404 replied to kitcatsheart's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had my vsg surgery with Dr. Guillermo Alverez this past April. Just hit my 6 months post op. I can't say enough about Dr. Alverez and his team. I will say that the surgery was the easy part for me, it has been the post op life that has been a struggle, especially with expectations. I had no issues and after the first 2 days, I didn't feel like I had surgery of any kind. I was up walking all over the neighborhood and then all over the Alamo/San Antonio area. Everything went exactly as I was told, no surprises. I still wouldn't change my decision. If you have any questions feel free to post or send a message. -

At almost 6 months out, one of my struggles is NOT to compare my journey with that of others. I've come to term that I am a slow loser. The first month I lost 20 pounds and then 11 and since I lose about 3-5 per month. I lose crazy inches and my measurements are equal to a lower size as compared to when I was a similar weight. I stall all the time. It really is a head game. I have used and still occasionally use genpro too, but maybe look at meeting your Protein goals with other sources and see if that helps. I try to switch up my sources. Some weeks are from shakes and Genpro and other weeks from only food. This is a journey and I would be lying if I didn't say, I question if I spent all this money for nothing probably weekly... Then my body shows me either on the scale or clothes that this is working. Some of us have to work harder than others but it will happen if we do what we are suppose to do! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Dr. Alvarez Reviews
VSGButterfly404 replied to ashleys2016's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had my vsg with Dr. Guillermo Alverez at Endobariatric in Mexico in April. I can't remember what my BMI was when I first reached out to them, but it was low. I mention that because between the time I started researching and actually having the surgery I had some other health issues and gained more weight. I think it was 34/35. Susan is wonderful if you have questions. I only told my mom about my plans and she was against it at first. Every bit of information I could find, I shared with her. She is the only person I've told. She traveled with me to get vsg as well. I had a few fears prior to surgery but I was confident that if I was going to have vsg, Dr. Alverez was going to perform it. I had a textbook/great experience. I woke up with a little nausea after surgery and that lasted for an hour. After that, I didn't really have any pain. I was up and walking a couple of hours after surgery. I was out walking around the hospital and to the shopping center the next morning to find my mom something to eat. I stayed an extra day in San Antonio and went down to the Riverwalk and walked too much, may have over did it. The staff at the hotel kept asking when I was headed to have surgery and when I told them I already had it, they were shocked. I could go on and on but if you have specific questions, let me know. I have no regrets. Even now when I think I'm not losing as fast as others, Susan and Dr. A are still available to answer my questions and concerns. Good luck with your journey. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I was too, but I went with the best surgeon for me, since I was self pay. I'll be honest I was scared of going to TJ Mexico but not so much of going to PN Mexico for Dr. Alvarez. There were 2 surgeons near my home state I considered as well. I felt better than I could have ever prayed for, and people at the recovery hotel questioned if I had surgery because I was up and out so soon. You have to do what is best for you and what you're comfortable with. I have no regrets. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Secret Sleeve & Recovery Time?
VSGButterfly404 replied to Laughkc11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a secret sleever. My mom is the only person who knows. I told my manager I had a hiatal hernia repair. I had surgery in Mexico, so wanted extra time to recover. I was going to use STD but I used 6 days of sick time and worked from home for 5 days. I probably could have taken more time off, but other than being a little slow, I was fine returning to the office when I did. I scheduled naps (usually combining my lunch and breaks) while working from home. The first week in the office I worked 6 hours per day and would come home to nap a little. I didn't have any issues with nausea after I left the hospital. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Airport security issues ?
VSGButterfly404 replied to Wolfgirl78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I flew a couple of days after surgery and the scanner showed something in my pelvic region. I flew again last week and the same thing. Now I know to expect a pat down. I'm looking into Pre TSA though. The times I've flown was with family who knows I had vsg but I normally travel with friends and I have not shared my surgery with them. I don't want to explain why I always have to be patted down now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Personal loan to pay for surgery.
VSGButterfly404 replied to angie3721's topic in Insurance & Financing
I used Lightstream (a loan company that is part of SunTrust Banks). It was all done online and I chose the terms. I got a good rate to cover everything, including traveling. They didn't really ask what it was for. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Researching doctors in Mexico
VSGButterfly404 replied to sheronep's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My decision to go to Mexico was based on having my VSG by one doctor. I researched him like I did for those doctors in my area. I know a couple of friends that had their surgery done by him. He has a lot of information from his patients available online. I read everything I could find about him and his patients. I watch all his YT videos and I even talked to/emailed a few patients (list provided by his coordinator) that live in my area and traveled to have their surgery done. I have no regrets and so thankful for my experience with him before surgery and now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I wear the Multivitamin and Omega patch. I buy them when there is a discount code. I think I will try the sleep patch on my next order. I still take an additional b12 and Calcium. I'm looking at a chewable Iron too. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
