Curious about how many surgical incisions you had?
KELLIEDN posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I find it strange that there are such wide differences in the amount of incisions that people have when getting the same procedure. Personal, I had three total. One on the left, one on the right and my belly button. Compared to most people, that seems like the very low end, and that most people have 5 or 6 incisions. What do you think? And why would this be? -

I had laproscopic VSG and I had the 3 incisions. I know that he did not need to retract my liver, so that may be one that I didn't need. -

What happens in hospital before surgery?
KELLIEDN replied to Emmyb2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, people were in and out of the room. Taking vitals, helping me get ready, explaining what was going to happen. Seeing if I had questions. In and out the entire time. Nurses, helper, the anesthesiologist. I was in there for about 1.5 hours before the actual surgery. They even brought me a warm blanket when I felt a little cold. It went super quick. -
My first post! I am scheduled for surgery in two days. Very excited, but super nervous! aaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!! Kellie

This was my third time on General Anesthesia. The other two times I remember getting on the operating table and them putting the mask on me. Each time I was given a little something to relax me before going in. This time, I remember being wheeled into the operating room....and that is it. Next I knew I was waking in recovery. A bit of nausea. That is pretty much it. Everyone is different, except for that weird hazy confused and a little lost feeling you get when you wake up in recovery....

I just buy the Premier Protein shakes from costco or Sams club. They are really good and have 30 g protein for each one. No mixing or mess making. Just shake and drink. They are more expensive at other places though. What pre made ones were you using?

I had my surgery on Friday April 1 Okay, so, my surgeon gave me a book for all the information that I need regarding before, during and after surgery. So I was just reading up on post op diet this morning and there is some conflicting information in here. One part says I can start the full liquid diet after I leave the hospital, another part says to start full liquids on day 5. I would love to start full liquids now as it would be much easier for me to get my Protein, liquid and calories. I'm having a hard time right now. Today I did get down two Sobe Lifewater Zero's. One had half a scoop of Protein powder. I also got in a high protein chicken bullion, but all that adds up to 55 oz fluids, 30 g protein and 135 calories. I am not at all hungry and getting this down is a chore. If I could just switch to my Premier Protien shakes and some yogurt I would be so happy. I'm just not sure.

Immediate Post Op Diet Question
KELLIEDN replied to KELLIEDN's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just opened the book that came from the Weight Control Center that I was at for the 6 months preop stuff and it also says we go home on full liquids. Man, I've been killing myself today trying to get this down! I'm getting a Premier Protein shake and I'm going to enjoy it! Slowly, but still lol! -

This pre-op diet is gonna kill me.

I guess all surgeons are different? My surgery is tomorrow and I have been on a full liquid diet since Saturday. But that includes light yogurt, plain oatmeal (with skim milk and truvia) and sugar free pudding....so at least I had some things that I felt filled me up and I could enjoy. Today is my only day of Clear liquids only. I can't imagine having to do today for 1 or 2 weeks. I totally feel for you!! -
For those of you with kids.
KELLIEDN replied to choicemun's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is tomorrow. My boys are 9 and 11 and I just told them the truth in broad terms. I had to explain to them because I plan on them helping me next week I think kids are more resilient than we give them credit for. The 9 year old is a bit worried, but he will be okay once he knows I'm okay. -
My psych eval was about 2 hours. I was seeing another therapist before my eval, but after I switched to the one who did my eval because I felt so comfortable talking to her and like she "got it" It's really not so bad. She asked me some demographic/pre questions, then she set me up in a room to take a psych eval test, then she asked follow up questions. The questions are basically to make sure you are doing it for the right reasons, have a basic understanding of what you are planning on doing and also to learn a little about you so if some of your questions come out a certain way, they will know why. It's really not bad at all. Also, my evaluator has herself had weight loss surgery and chose to start doing the evaluations for this very reason. She is awesome. And will be great support afterward too.

Congratulations! That's actually not that long really. I know a lot of people that have to go through a 6 month weight loss program before their insurance will pay. I started my journey meeting my surgeon in July, starting my weight loss program in late August and I am having my surgery finally on Friday April 1! That is nearly 9 months! Very happy for you though!! -
I can't say I would regret doing it sooner, because as soon as I realized my insurance would cover it, I jumped right on starting the steps! lol!
