    Hunger

@@Lacey09 Thank you It gives me hope. I will wait till the real food stage, and see what happens. Frankly I am now sick of pureed and soft food. My post op abdominal swelling is still quite pronounced. I'll "just keep swimming" like Dory in Finding Nemo On the good side, my chocolate cravings disappeared since my op! No longer do Dory's "Ooooh, look, Chocolate!"
  2. I'm in my 5th week post op. In a stall for 2 weeks, haven't lost any, and haven't gained any weight. Expectations are bad for me ..... as I was expecting loss each week. Yes I was warned re: stalls ..... I was advised to up my Proteins, as my hunger is getting worse at the moment. I also have a post op abdominal swelling that is so, so slowly going down. Rather frustrating, but I know I have to persevere and be more patient.

    Protein?

@@farfalla1 What is your dietician recommending? Initially I was on Optifast plus Sustagen, Now a high Protein shake for women. The regular high Protein shakes were in too large containers and too expensive for experimenting with. I am in 5th week post op, and upping my Proteins. Good luck

    Hunger

@@animallover1247 I too ended up with acid reflux, I am on PPI also. Used to take it in the mornings, switched to taking it at night, as 2-3 weeks ago I woke up choking and coughing up yellow acid ..... horrible! I also elevated my pillow. Alas, it does not (PPI) help with my hunger pangs ...... annoying .....

    Hunger

@@hifigli, Hi, Yes, I was and I do get hungry also. Seems to be at 2 hours intervals, for me. Was hungry during liquid stage, was hungry during purees, now soft foods ..... hungry also If I don't have my allowed snack, or go longer than 3 hours, I have real hunger pangs. Mainly later on in the afternoon. I have read on this board that it could be due to our stomach acid still being active without having the "old" food. Also, I have read here that it goes away when we get to the regular, allowed food and portions. My dietician advised me to increase my Proteins and also to take a small Protein drink at night, if I can't fall asleep till late. I have been doing this for the past 2 days, and it seems to help. Have you asked your dietician about it? @@dd817 I was diagnosed with hypoglycaemia years ago (low blood sugar level), this was making me hungry if I had more carbs than proteins, and didn't have Snacks between meals. I also have thyroid disease, however I am assured by members here that they still keep losing weight despite this. I wonder if you have this as well ..... I too thought I wouldn't feel so hungry, the real hunger (not the head/emotional hunger) I am now in my 5th week post op
  6. How can I be so muddle headed at times ...... My Puree stage, post op instructions clearly stated that I can have Cooked/Steamed fruit only in this phase. I knew re cooked veggies and cooked/canned Proteins, etc I have had Raw pureed bananas, paw paw, pears ....... I will now cook my portions, but I am Half way through my puree stage! Oh dear ....... I will tell this to my dietician. No adverse reactions, as far as I know .... No wonder that the surgical team wants me to be supported at home .... well, I forgot to tell this phase to my house-friend. Off with the fairies ...... at times .....
  7. @@bellabeans I bought the allowed foods, cooked them, then pureed with Nutri Bullet. I made few batches, that I froze for later in small containers. This way I had week's supply that I only needed to defrost and re-heat. Personally, I prefer non tinned food, and my body was craving "fresh" (cooked and pureed) food. Each stage prepares the stomach for the future, so the Sleeve doesn't get stretched, damaged, and to prevent nausea, vomiting, bad reactions, etc You will get full recovery instructions pre and post op.
  8. I asked my Dietician yesterday re Raw pureed bananas and pawpaw. She said these are fine raw, because they are very soft already. Apart from the printed guide I have for each stage, I also get her written instructions. All I saw was "cooked fruit". Anyway, all good. I started on Soft Foods yesterday, week 5 post op. I had 2 cruskits with low fat cream cheese, topped with tinned, mashed tuna mayo. It was Heaven!
  9. @@bellabeans Yes, you can buy baby food. I prefer the fresh variety, as I need all the Vitamins and "normal" foods now. After weeks of Optifast, canned Soups, etc, I had enough of it. Also, freshly cooked and pureed food has little more fibre in it. I started Soft Food yesterday, I am in week 5 post op.
  10. @@mirVSG Pawpaw is a type of Papaya. It is larger and less red/orange than papaya. Very soft fruit, just need to peel it and remove the seeds

    Thyroid issue

@@Daisee68 Thank you! It is wonderful to hear from others that also have Graves disease. To share experiences and support. Yes, frequent blood tests. Mine were every 30 days, now every 6 weeks. Congratulations on your fantastic weight loss, despite this thyroid disease! Well done!!! It is a relief for me to hear that Good luck with your lab work!
  12. Yes, it makes good sense to keep re-reading the instructions ..... Next week I'll be progressing onto soft foods, so more instructions, and more reading Did lot of purees today, and froze most of them. No mistakes this time
  13. @@Inner Surfer Girl, Yes, true, texture is very important. Thank you for reminding me, as this is exactly what my dietician told me. I was mindful of Vegies, but not of Soft Fruit. I just thought that bananas, some type of pears and pawpaw are naturally soft ..... hence I forgot to cook them. It is such a new eating habit now, that unless I keep checking my instructions, I sometimes make mistakes ..... Now, I check instructions every day.
  14. @@Valentina, Good question! Perhaps they are easier to digest when cooked. I'll ask the dietician next week, at my follow up apt.

    Stomach Virus

My grandmother used to give me Peppermint tea for stomach upsets. It helped a bit. Good luck.
  16. @@HappilyEverAfter44 I have read in About.com Thyroid, plus Mary Shomon's thyroid blogs, that taking the med at night works really well with some people, and that it may even absorb better ....
  17. My surgeon did not want me to go off my coffee, pre and post op. He was concerned re caffeine withdrawals. So, I had coffee with milk in the hospital. At home I drink brewed coffee with milk. Black coffee would be too acidic for me. Adding milk to it makes it less acidic, and adds to my protein allowance. Even though milk is also a carbohydrate, ..... go figure .... perhaps due to its sugar content. So far, no problems. I am 24 days post op Also, coffee can be dehydrating, so I am mindful of my water intake.
  18. Very welcome! I had to have requested Panadeine Forte crushed in the hospital. I had headaches, and the Endo (oxycodone?) wasn't helping my headaches. I tried regular Multi vit at home later, as my chewable BN Multi hasn't arrived by then. I don't recommend this. Even crushed it did not really agree with me, and tasted horrible! Any tablet that is large and non-chewable is no good post op. Hence B12 spray and chewable Multivitamin are the recommended ways of taking them. Capsules are OK. Thank goodness that my thyroid med is tiny and "slippery". Good luck with your surgeries, kmorri

    Thyroid issue

I went from Hyper thyroid to Hypo thyroid now. Last year I was diagnosed with Graves disease, was severely Hyper thyroid. Yes, my WLS surgeon and his endocrinologist picked up on it. My WLS had to be put on hold. Had Radioactive Iodine last August 2015, went Hypo thyroid December 2015. On Thyroxine since January 2016. At least it is only one tiny tablet per day, versus 16-20 I had to take daily, when I was Hyper thyroid! Both Hyper and Hypo suck! I am also concerned re: slower weight loss now. I am 24 days post op, so too early to see re my weight loss. I know, it is no good to compare myself with other people. I am glad that I can connect with other Thyroid members
  20. Hi, I had a quick look/search on this topic. I am 22 days post Gastric Sleeve op. Finally starting to notice my abdominal swelling slowly going down. I looked 11 months "pregnant" after my op, today look 7-8 months "pregnant" Some posts mentioned 6 weeks on, plus walking it off. I wonder what other members' experiences were with this post op abdominal swelling. Thank you.
  21. kmorri, I take the full tablet. It is so small and goes down easily with Fluid. Did so in the hospital and now home post op. However, yes, check it out with your surgeon. Good luck!
  22. I take my Thyroxine ( same as Synthroid) when I first wake up, early in the morning, need to go to toilet etc. I then fall asleep again. Not working shift-work for a change, helps. This way when I get up later, I can have my Water, coffee, and 30 mins later my allowed food. I take BN Multi chewable after breakfast, never on empty stomach. B12 Spray. Also, in the morning I sip 1/2 juice 1/2 water that I add powdered vit C, Benefibre and at this stage Osmolax. After "diner" (purees for now), I take Calcium/Magnesium combo, and Melatonin closer to bedtime. Also take my PPI at bedtime. Also more Osmolax at night. Only started Thyroxine January this year. Hyper thyroid (Graves disease) diagnosed last May 2015. Thyroid destroyed last August 2015 (Radioactive Iodine)
  23. Good to hear, csawesome. Glad it is not anything serious. Rest and taking it easy is a must, after this surgery.
  24. Good luck for tomorrow! Glad that the swelling has gone down
