Helllloooooo !!! I am on the Gold Coast, QLD since 2002. Before my move, I lived most of my life in Sydney (Bondi Beach) .... My Sleeve was 7 weeks ago, and the worst thing for me was thinking and worrying about it Pre-op. I'm still here, healthier and happier! @, congratulations ! PM me if I can be of any help. @@aussiecosy, where in QLD are you? @@KindaFamiliar, love your posts and your sense of humour Any more Aussies around on this site ? Say hello, please -

@@mmy, When I first enquired about WLS last year, May 2015, I was at 32 BMI. I was already freaking out re my rapid weight gain, of 28 kg ..... I never had this problem before until 2014 Routine tests showed thyroid disease, so I had to put off my WLS for about 9 months, till my thyroid stabilised ..... By late February 2016, I managed to pile on another 12-13 kg, and my weight ballooned to 101 kg , BMI 37.1 My surgeon would have operated on me at 32 BMI, to prevent future health risks and to help my deteriorating emotional state. Unfortunately, with my Hyperthyroid (Graves Disease), it was too risky to be operated on. All up, I put on 41 kg (90 Ibs) in a 2 year period (was always slim before). If I did not have this surgery, I probably would be Double my normal weight now ..... I felt I was the only person on the planet that was obese with Hyperthyroid .... even though I now know that I had this disease most of my life, and it kept me slim until 2014. I have no regrets, I lost good amount of weight 7 weeks post op, for my height. I still have a long way to go, but each day is bit better .... My NUT revised my goal weight to 68-70 kg, and I was Not happy with that. I downgraded my goal weight to 65 kg (from 60 kg) I am starting to look better, my face is changing, my aches and pains and other health issues with my rapid weight gain are improving, I am happier, and life is getting better. Good Luck and Best Wishes

8 months post op and hungry all the time!
OzRoo replied to cbruce125's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What about Protein intake, is it higher than carbs? Frequency of your meals? I find if I go over the 3 hour mark, I get ravenous. Alcohol, any stress, any recent illness ? Any new medications? Anything different for you recently, @@cbruce125 ? This post is really helpful, looking forward to more replies. -
Yes, I mainly use the website for the MyFitnessPal. Adjusted everything on their website. I have the app, but find it easier to use on my Mac. I just couldn't edit my earlier post here, on this forum .....

I forgot to add that these measures are for me for Now, I currently started the Phase 4 post op: Minced/Mashed Texture for 2 weeks. So, the above measures may need to be adjusted again, later on. Couldn't find the Edit button after posting earlier .....

I saw my NUT (Dietician today), Told her re : MyFitnessPal She said that she had to work out the numbers and percentages for few of her bariatric clients. So here are My adjusted measures for me at MyFitnessPal. So for me these are the recommended Daily measures: 1. 800 calories 2. Protein 40%, which is 60-70 g 3. Carbs 35% 4. Fats 25% Now, for the shock of hers ideal weight goal for me ...... 68kg! Up to 74kg with the sleeve ..... OMG!!! I am willing at this stage to downgrade my goal of 60kg to 65kg. I will adjust my weight ticker to 65 kg. Grrrrrrr ......

@@mariab3 Great advice! Thank you. I discovered this too (just a while ago), and now I am reading your post re customising under Goals I changed my calories, and also had to change my Protein, Carbs and Fat percentages, as under my New calorie goal, the automatic readings for Proteins, etc were not right for me at this stage. So, it can be fixed!

Yes, I was like that too prior my surgery date. Was worried if my blood tests would get better. Good luck for tomorrow, @@sbdooly73 Fingers crossed.

@@sbdooly73 When I was Hyper thyroid last year, my surgeon told me that it was too dangerous for me to be operated on, due to the thyroid storm possibility. I worked with his team Endo ever since then (July 2015) He told me to come back once my thyroid stabilised. When I saw him in January 2016, I was severe Hypo then, and he wanted to wait longer, as hypo thyroid that is not stabilised can make the recovery from WLS lot harder. After 2 months of Thyroxine meds (Levo thyroxine), My labs were finally good, stable, Hallelujah !!! So, was finally operated on March 8th 2016 I can't see a reason why you may be denied surgery, unless your blood tests show big differences in your levels. Are you on thyroid medication? OK, just saw your reply re thyroid med. I wonder if your med needs to be adjusted. I still have my now 6 weekly blood tests to monitor my levels Good luck!

Can you count the water in the protein shakes towards the water goal?
OzRoo replied to bigmamaAfrica's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I struggle now to get 8 glasses of Water (not a problem prior WLS). I have a 700 ml water Sipping flask/container, and I measure my water intake with this. I also count my diluted juices, decaf coffee, herbal tea towards my Fluid intake. So, I do get my quota of liquids all up. With all the restrictions, sipping, no fluids 30 mins before and after meals, it is impossible for me to get the standard 8 glasses of water in. I was dehydrated only once, about 10 days post op. Hasn't happened since. -
I have Graves disease. I had my thyroid destroyed via Radioactive tx, been Hypo thyroid since Dec 2015. On Thyroxine since January 2016. My surgery had to be postponed when I was hyper thyroid. Since March 2016 (WLS) I lost total of 9 kg ( approx. 20 pounds), Seems slow loss, however I did hit the stall couple of weeks ago. It is normal though,to have stalls, even though they can be frustrating ..... I am interested in thyroid disease weight loss, also. I had couple of mini binges recently, emotional/head cravings, chocolate made me ill, so had some ice-cream and extra Proteins late at night. I only started gentle exercises 2 weeks ago.

Newbie and BM question after 9 days of DS
OzRoo replied to stephen643's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@stephen643 In my case, I only had the runs once, while still in the hospital, after a Barium Meal Leak Test. Otherwise, constipation rules during my different food phases. I have found a helpful way of dealing with it. If this was happening to me on a regular basis (diarrhoea), I'd be calling my Surgeon ASAP. Dehydration is a big concern, and even though I did not have the runs, I got very dehydrated once with nasty and scary symptoms. Another cause could be some food intolerances, or even a stomach bug. So, please call your surgical team and get some relief. Good luck. -
I just ignore it now ......

Newbie and 9 days post op question
OzRoo replied to stephen643's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am actually opposite to your experience. I only had the runs after my Barium Meal Leak test, in the hospital. Constipated since, but I got it under control. With diarrhoea, you need to watch out for Dehydration! Please call your surgeon or his team about your issue. Also, what type of surgery did you have ? Gastric Sleeve, Bypass .... ? Good luck. -
What Is the Biggest Mistake You Made?
OzRoo replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My Biggest Mistakes so far: 1. Dehydration ..... early on post op, 10 days or so .... I thought I was going into shock ..... very nasty and scary experience. Happened in my car, on my way to an appointment. Luckily, only 5 minute drive on small roads, I was ready to pull over ... I felt dizzy, faint, cold and clammy, unwell. I was told I looked pale/grey ready to collapse, when I walked into my apt. Was given a glass of Hydralite, got well within 10-15 minutes This made me lot more conscious re my Water and Fluid intake 2. Acid Reflux ..... Terrible attack after straying off my prescribed diet, 3-4 weeks post op. Yes, I caved in, it was emotional (frustrated with my very first weight loss stall), I decided to "reward" myself with 1/2 of a chocolate Bunny (it was after Easter), together with a large serve of ice-cream ..... late at night ... Bad Idea !!! I woke up at 4 am, choking on and coughing up copious amounts of stinging yellow bile .... I was so worried that I may have aspirated some of this bile/acid .... These 2 above episodes scared me so much, that I think I needed to be shaken up hard, to pay more attention to my post op instructions and to my body. Even on my daily PPI, this Acid/Bile attack was so violent that it is unforgettable. These are my mistakes during my 6 weeks post Gastric Sleeve op. -

I Am Thankful For My Stall
OzRoo replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am grateful for my stall as it made me friends with MyFitnessPal. I can now see exactly how much Protein I had, how much Sugar, how many Carbs etc, each day. How often I exercise, and do I stick to my goal re exercising How much Water I really drank ..... Gosh, there are so many Hidden Sugars !!! I knew about them, but never really looked into this, until now .... So, I am grateful -
my 3 week stall is annoying me
OzRoo replied to trishrnyoung's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@trishrnyoung I just got through mine, and yes it was frustrating. I got out of it, with just under a kilo loss. For me this time, it lasted 2 weeks. I refused to weigh myself, and at the end, when I finally weighed myself, I actually lost a bit! I can only share what I was advised to do by my NUT and what I did differently during that stage: 1. To increase my Proteins with a high Protein powder mixed in my yoghurt or purees 2. To temporarily have 1/2 cup of only protein food 3. To drink more Water 4. To add Benefibre to my drinks 5. To use Osmolax as needed Yes, constipation got worse for me, hence Osmolax worked well for me. I too went for up to 10 days without BM, mainly during the liquid only phase. Now, I got it again due to increased proteins. Started using small amounts of Osmolax powder again. This gentle formula really helps me. I educated myself on the Stalls, both here, the web and Youtube. Now I know it is a normal and necessary phase to go through. I know now that there will be more to come. I've learnt that this is the time my body re-adjusts, and so be it.
