  1. OK, I guess the signature does not appear on the app, perhaps only on computer. I was normally at 60kg, and in the past 2 years I piled on 41kg! Some of it was due to my thyroid disease. So, I was 101kg at surgery, and 5 months later I lost 26kg, so currently I am on 75kg. I am 165cm tall. I really don't miss food at all. I missed it early on, especially during the liquids only phase. I was constantly hungry, plus I had a bad acid reflux which aggravated the hunger as well. Once I got to Soft/Mushy phase, I was fine. My taste has changed, I don't tolerate fatty, sugary foods anymore, as well as chocolate, thank goodness! My appetite changed also, and is very small these days. I just don't get hungry much anymore. I am so happy with the weight-loss that I really don't miss any foods. I love my wholesome Proteins and veggies, and fruit. The new stomach wants good food in it, and I tried to eat junk food, and I either got bad reflux or threw it up! I still like ice-cream and frozen yoghurt, but whenever I ate either, my weight-loss stalled, and since I can over-indulge in these slider foods, I decided to give them up, and have melons and berries instead. If I go out or socialise, I just eat healthy stuff in small quantity, or have a snack before I leave. For me socialising is not an issue. Hope all goes well for you @@Nikkinee
  2. @@SD123 My initial BMI was 32.3 last year. Surgeon was happy to operate on me to prevent future complications. I had a massive, rapid weight gain between 2014-2016. So, I would have been operated on last July 2015, but the team's endocrinologist diagnosed me with Thyroid disease. It took 9 months for my thyroid to stabilise, and in that time i piled on another 29Ibs, making it a total of 90Ibs weight gain, and BMI of 37.1 My pre-op weight was 222Ibs. I am now 5 months post op and lost close to 60Ibs, and still losing. My excess weight put me in a pre-diabetic stage, and I had beginnings of non alcoholic fatty liver disease. My blood pressure was high, my cholesterol levels were very high, and emotionally I felt completely beaten down. If I did not have this surgery, my weight would have doubled, and more. Even though I was only obese for 2 years, it played havoc with my body and emotions. Now, I am feeling so much better! And yes, had a few people tell me that they wished they did WLS surgery when they were at my BMI level, and not waited when their BMI got much higher. Good luck to you, and no-one has a right to tell you what to do or not to do. Any negativity is only someone else's opinion. It has nothing to do with you!

    Eating

I lived on minces, chicken and turkey. Was too afraid of red meat at that stage. My minces were cooked with cheese sauces, so they would be moist. I had tiny amounts of well cooked zucchini and cauliflower. I also ate poached salmon, with sauce. For Snacks I ate crisp-breads (Cruskits) with cream and cottage cheese plus tinned salmon. Later on I had veal mince, and much later on beef mince. The beef mince actually did not agree with me, but lamb mince did. For Breakfast I ate and still do Chobani yoghurt with grated apple and a scoop of Protein powder plus bit of vanilla essence and cinnamon. Had scrambled egg couple of times, the last time I threw it up, so back to yoghurt I went.

For me the teas worked: ginger tea, peppermint tea and just plain brewed black tea. Good luck, hope you feel better soon!

    Upper GI Series - OMG!

@@KristenLe Hope you get your surgery date soon, September is not that far off. I had to wait 9 months, was going to be sleeved last July 2015, but my sick thyroid was discovered and had to be stabilised prior the op. So, I finally had my op early March 2016. I had the leak test Barium swallow (post op), and the only leak I had afterwards was from my behind! I could not get off the toilet. Worst runs I had for a long time, and on the day I was being discharged from the hospital! Cleaned me out really well

    Weight loss ticker

Can you find "My Surgery" ? Perhaps once you fill in your height, current weight, goal weight, surgery weight etc, and Save it, perhaps then the Ticker option will appear? If you are still having issues, perhaps post it in the IT/technical section, way down past all the forums. Good luck!

    3 months Post-Op Tomorrow

Well done! Congrats on your 3 months post op My op was early March 2016, and I lost 55 Ibs (25 kg). I have occasional problems with beef, so I don't eat it often, yet veal is OK. I find fish and chicken the best for me, as well as yoghurt. I recently discovered that soy sauce also does not agree with me, makes me bloated and full of gas. I love sashimi style salmon, but can't dip it in soy sauce. Yes, it is a learning curve with which foods are OK versus troublesome foods. I also tried a scone/muffin, and this almost made me sick. I was so nauseous after eating only half of it. For me, I tolerate well the good foods, healthy ones. Processed ones and sugary baked stuff does not agree with me, and chocolate gave me an awful reflux, just as well, as I was a chocaholic before. Tried ice-cream few times, and all that sugar put me to sleep, was so tired afterwards. I am staying away from both ice-cream and frozen yoghurt, as they are both trigger foods for me, and once I start, I find it hard to stop. Having fruit instead now for deserts. I love all the melons now.
  12. I was 58 when I had my sleeve done in March 2016. No issues, recovery was fine, just some acid reflux and my ongoing thyroid challenges. I look in the mirror now, and seriously this op made me look so much younger! Like someone in their mid forties Very happy with my results. It is never too late!

    Cravings

@@Hiraeth You're so welcome! Yes, I was so surprised that I felt this hunger so early post op, well it is a distant memory now, and these days I have to remind myself to eat It is all part and parcel of the recovery journey. May it be nice and smooth for you.

    Ate too fast... Lesson learned

I threw up a scrambled egg also. It was weird though, as the first scrambled egg was fine, so weeks later I had another one. I guess that one was drier though. Soonest I ate it, it got stuck in the middle of my oesophagus, then the burning started travelling up, then a quick run to the bathroom. Same with steak, it was OK few times (mince), and then it all came up again. So, eating safer foods for me now ..... fish and chicken and yoghurt.

    Cravings

I was ravenous on the post op liquid phase. Both physical and head hunger, as well as acid reflux that mimicked hunger. My NUT told me to add Protein powder to my fluids, that helped a bit. I would also sip broth, I was craving something warm. The broth did the trick for me. I was still hungry on purees, and it wasn't until the Soft/Mushy phase where I finally felt satisfied and hunger went away. I dreamed of something hot and savoury, like a pizza, early on but never indulged as I was too scared of damaging my sleeve or having a leak. Good luck ! in my opinion the liquid phase was the toughest, but it went quickly for me
  16. The part of the stomach is removed that houses ghrelin, the hunger hormone, as well as the stomach size is reduced to the size of a banana. These changes remove lot of hunger and appetite. I am supposed to be on 800 calories these days, and 80g Protein. I track everything on MyFitnessPal, and mostly I manage to eat daily is between 500 and 600 calories, with 60-70g Proteins. I used to suffer from hypoglycaemia, and was worried that it will make life difficult for me post op. It hasn't! I feel full on just 1/2 cup of food at a time, and I feel fine. The only time I felt dizzy and unwell was early on, I got dehydrated. Hasn't happened since, as I am now very conscious of my Fluid intake. It is easy to be on low calorie intake, as the whole digestive process has changed, and with smaller stomach the appetite gets smaller. I am not on maintenance yet, but my NUT told me that later on, I may need to be between 1000 and 1200 calories per day. From 3/4 cup to 1 cup of food per meal. Also, my food costs are now 1/3 of what I used to spend before

    Weight loss ticker

Just go to Top Right, click on your name, then click on Tickers. Choose the ticker you like, you will see instructions on top, once you select your ticker, save it and I think paste it into your Signature. When you wish to update your weight loss, again go to top right, click on your name, then click on Your Surgery, and change your weight there. Save the change. It automatically updates on your ticker then. Good luck and have fun with all the different styles and backgrounds you can choose from
  18. @@Nikkinee Hi and Welcome ! I am on the northern end of the Gold Coast. I have had surgeries before, and never worried about them, but this Gastric Sleeve .... well I was super anxious. Initially I was so excited that I finally got approved and got my date, and as I got closer to the op day, I was quite nervous and scared. And then it happened, and I was OK! Bit of pain, had a large drain tube, IV and was 3 days in the hospital. I don't regret it for a minute! My recovery has been reasonably smooth, just bad reflux that is now under control. My weight loss is slow and steady, being in low BMI range I was told to expect slower weight loss. You can see my weight loss in my signature ticker. My hair is doing really well, so is my skin. The only bits of loose skin are in my arms, everywhere else I don't have any loose, excess skin. So for me, I am happy with my results. Hope you will be too! Good luck
  19. @@L. Knight Also, some people had the swelling go down quicker than me. Hope you get more replies. My surgeon told me the average time was 6 weeks, so I had 6 weeks more on top of the average time for the swelling to go down. Hope yours gets down quicker
  20. I was on top of the world, feeling great for some time. Then I was really irritable and cranky. I am still not sleeping well due to my thyroid med getting too strong with each weight loss, and adjustments take weeks to work. I also had a horrible, on-going stress last month, that the end result was depression. So, this has been a Jekyll and Hyde journey for me. I am waiting to get back to normal .... 5 months post op .... maybe another month for me? I hope so! @@justhere4theshow The hormonal dump can happen. Good luck with your recovery!
  21. Yes, it is. My swelling lasted for 3 months. My abdo area was very distended initially post op, felt like I was having triplets! It very slowly and gradually went down. Your stomach undergoes massive trauma due to the surgery, so the swelling is normal healing reaction. Later on I also had gas bloating due to different diet and constipation. If however you have strong pain that is constant and fever, then call your surgeon or go to ER ASAP. This could signify infection or leak. Otherwise, just wait it out. The swelling will go down in time.
