Why are so many stages different?

For me it was: 2 weeks liquids, then 2 weeks purees, then 2 weeks soft/mushy, then gradual change to solids. No starchy carbs or baked goods, just regular vegetables, like zucchini, bok choy, spinach, cauliflower, and fruit, and healthy crisps (Cruskits) were allowed, and good, lean Proteins. Plus a visit to NUT at every food phase change. When I "experimented" with slider foods like ice-cream or frozen yoghurt, my weight-loss stalled. Soonest I stopped eating those, my weight started to peel off again.

    Gallbladder removal?

@@Pinkberry2 2cm gallstones are quite big! I had to have my gallbladder removed in 1996, as I had 1 large stone, about 2cm, size of my thumb. I was having intermittent sharp pains, like being stabbed on my right abdominal side. I had it removed for 2 reasons: 1. It was becoming more and more painful for me, and 2. I was worried that if it travels up to and obstructs my common bile duct, this could create a life threatening situation. So I had it removed laparoscopicly. If you can have it removed at the same time during your gastric sleeve, then in my opinion, this would save you from possible complications later and re-admission to the hospital for another surgery. Quite a few sleeve people end up having their gall-bladder removed months later. Good luck!

    My work here is done

Yes, let's have a party with bacon, Cheeseits, loads of alcohol, pizzas, steaks, and throw all post op instructions to the wind! After all, the Baby Stomach can go straight into eating steaks and hard to digest food, right ??? Wash it down with few wines or beers or tequilas, babies drink this too, right ??? The hell with baby type food .....

    Sweats after eating

@@dede_mont You need Protein. Baby carrots are a sugary carb. This may make you hungry and crave sugar. Have you tried yoghurt? Chobani Greek yoghurt has a high protein content. You can add Protein powder to it. You could even add few baby carrots to it. As long as you eat mainly protein food, very important in recovery! Can't answer your question re Fluid intake. I live in Queensland, so it is very hot and humid here during the summer. I lived in air-conditioned places, my house, work, shopping centres. If you can't manage enough fluids, perhaps get a bottle of Hydralyte or Gastrolyte, to ensure you have your electrolytes in balance, and as an emergency drink, if you get dehydrated. I hope you don't get dehydrated though, as it was an awful and scary episode for me. Good luck!

    Ate too fast... Lesson learned

I microwaved my scrambled egg, with salt, milk and no butter. Just added bit of cheese sauce. First time I had it, it was fine. Second time, I overcooked it, so it was drier, and then got stuck in the middle of my oesophagus, with increasing burning travelling up my oesophagus, then I threw it up ....

    Sweats after eating

I dumped straight away after a too dry scrambled egg, after beef mince, and after rich ice-cream. Feeling was awful, and with the minced beef I felt ill all day. The only time I had Cold sweats, was early post op, just under 2 weeks, I was dehydrated. My skin was cold and clammy, I was told I looked grey and I felt faint, and my pulse was racing. I was given Hydralyte (electrolyte drink), and bounced back within 15 minutes. Very unpleasant experience! Never happened again, as I became very mindful of Fluid intake. Like I said before, when on purees, I was adding chicken stock to my Protein purees, such as chicken and salmon, as well as adding runny yoghurt to them, to make them moist.
  9. @@sha_sha_Lucas Yes, it sounds like reflux. Mine was quite bad. I was on Rabeprazole and Pantoprazole initially, and they did not help me. I heard that some other sleevers had the same problem, and it got much better for them once they started using Nexium "Esomeprazole" Well, Nexium definitely got rid off all reflux issues for me. My surgeon told me to stay on it for 12 months, instead of the usual 3 months post op. I recently tried to take it every second evening, and couldn't do it as I felt reflux coming back. Everyone is different, so can't really predict when it will get better, or when it will go away. For me, prior to Nexium, I had bad bouts of reflux at every food phase change, as well. I ate slowly, chewed like mad, followed all the instructions, and still got it. I never suffered continuously from reflux before my op. Had it occasionally, but since my op, unfortunately it became a daily companion, till I started using Nexium 40mg. Good luck to you. Talk with your surgeon and perhaps try a different script.
  10. @@reducer623 I have had 3 stalls so far. One lasted 3 weeks, I think it was my first stall. I decided not to weigh myself for a while, like for 10 days. Just put the scales away. I was however still losing inches/centimetres from my body. After that stall, the weight just started dropping off again. My last stall lasted 10-14 days, and I realised I was indulging in frozen yoghurt every evening for about a week. Soonest I stopped the frozen yoghurt, my weight started going down again. Here is the post I made re Sugar: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/374797-back-to-basics-and-weight-is-peeling-off/ God luck, hang in there, it will pass!

    Windows Upgrade?

Last year when my Windows 8.1 PC upgraded to Win 10, it stuffed my mouse and many programs. I battled with it for few hours, then got rid of that upgrade and went back to Win 8.1 I actually got to a stage that I had enough of hassles with PCs, and swapped to Apple Macbook Pro, and have been happy ever since! I still have about 4 PCs laptops around, only use them for games now. @@waterwoman Good luck. I hope you can revert back to the previous version that worked for you. And remember to change the automatic Win 10 update, to never or to be asked if you want to install this update, because if you don't, Win 10 can download itself again!

    Random Thought/Question

I too had numerous trips to the States through my work. I remember ordering a salad, and it was served in a bucket size bowl! My Australian friend who moved to LA, just said :"it's ridiculous, isn't it?" Huge meals, huge Desserts, huge drink containers, yes supersized and super sweet. Great tasting junk food. I remember bringing back pop tarts few times, and some honey pop corn and other stuff ... @@Dub I too am now mindful of sugar, as it sets a craving for me, and I don't want to over-indulge in slider foods, so I avoid them. I too love berries, like blueberries and blackberries with a rock melon or honey dew. Great tasting dessert and much better for me than ice-cream or frozen yoghurt. So far I have not binged on the berries And I don't think I ever will. So, I am commanding the Sugar Demon to stay away!

    Hunger Pains?

@@CLN.BK I can't remember now how long my incisions hurt. I remember using oxycodone for a week post op. My left side where I had a huge drain hurt more than my right side. Also, later on I noticed I had few lumps at some incision sites. All this pain went away, just can't remember how long it hurt. The lumps went away as well. And the last to go was my swollen abdomen, it took the longest to settle down. I looked like I was having triplets, post op! If your incision sites are not red, hot to touch, then in my opinion you are still healing. However, always check with your surgeon if this is bothering you. Good luck!

    Hunger Pains?

@@CLN.BK I definitely noticed the difference between different PPIs, together with few other Aussies post op. The Rabeprazole did not help me, I still had awful reflux. Through an Australian sleeve support forum, other members shared their similar experiences, and Nexium was mentioned often. I asked my surgeon for Nexium script, and after few days I finally was free of reflux. So, in my experience different PPI worked for me! And for few others that I know. Perhaps in Theory, they all supposed to be the same. In real life experience, PPIs differ!

    Hunger Pains?

@@kelliev2015 I remember feeling hungry throughout the whole 2 week liquid stage. At times it was real hunger, other times reflux. Had lots of gurgling noises, and I knew lot of it was due to the trauma of this major surgery. Warm broths helped me a bit. It got bit better during puree stage, less hungry but still hungry .... Moving onto Soft/Mushy stage and being put on stronger PPI, Nexium 40mg, really helped, and my hunger finally went away. So, once you get through the liquid phase, it does get better! Good luck.
  17. @ Hi and welcome! Are you from New Zealand? Best of luck for your upcoming op! I would have been sleeved at 32.3 BMI, I am the same height as you. Unfortunately I had to wait 9 months for my sick thyroid to stabilise. My surgeon was worried I'd go into thyroid storm and die on the table ..... I put on another 13 kg in that time, so I finally got sleeved at 101kg and 37.1 BMI 5 months later I lost 26 kg, and all is going well, except I am still not sleeping well due to my thyroid med getting too strong with each weight-loss, putting me back in the hyper state ..... My family history has lot of heart disease and thyroid disease, which in itself weakens the heart. I feel so much healthier now I also did not tell many people about my op, only closest friends know, and they are all very supportive. Hope all goes well for you, and please let us know how you are doing. Best Wishes.

    Sweats after eating

I used to add chicken stock (liquid) into my purees, as well as runny yoghurt, to make the purees moist and runny consistency. My NutriBullet became my best friend. Good luck, hope the sweats don't come back!

    Random Thought/Question

chocolate at 4 weeks gave me a horrendous acid foaming attack, so painful and scary. Haven't touched it since! At 4 months I tried a scone/muffin with butter, this gave me bad nausea and indigestion. Haven't touched any bakery stuff since. I dumped shortly after I ate a scrambled egg, couple of months ago, and after beef mince, around the same time. Haven't touched eggs of beef since, but tried veal mince, and that was OK. So, I am sticking mostly with fish and chicken or turkey, non starchy vegetables, yoghurt, fruit and healthy crisps with cottage or cream cheese, plus Protein powder. These are the safe foods for me.

    Changes after hair loss

@@CLN.BK So far no hair loss for me. I noticed my hair actually getting thicker and grow faster post surgery. I keep it shoulder length,as any longer gets annoying for me. I discussed this with my NUT, and she said that because I keep taking my Vitamins and eating as per food plan, with the Protein intake, this definitely helps to keep the hair, or getting healthier hair post op. No, I don't have Mermaid hair It seems bit more wavier, but I live in humid Queensland, so humidity turns my hair slightly curly ....
  21. @@KaiserKid, I am the one who used to be slim all my life, and in the past 2 years had a rapid, massive gain of 90Ibs! Yes I felt guilty, and horrified that my appetite went out of control. I hated myself and my body. Couldn't look in the mirror anymore, as all I could see was this bloated stranger. Most of the people I knew were good and did not pass judgements, bar 2 people who said to me: go to the gym more, you Have to lose weight and get back to your former self .... Well, I don't see these 2 people anymore. Being obese for 2 years messed with my head, turned me into a recluse, isolating at home wearing sarongs and feeling very down. I could see my weight doubling in no time. This is why I decided to look into WLS. When I showed my surgeon my photos from 3 years ago, he did a double take literally! My BMI at that stage was 32.3 I would have been operated on last July 2015, but the team's endocrinologist discovered my auto-immune Thyroid disease, and so I had to wait 9 months for my thyroid to be destroyed and then stabilised. I had many sessions with the team Bariatric Psychologist, that were very helpful. I finally was sleeved early March 2016. Have lost 60Ibs to date, and this surgery saved my life. Being obese for 2 years created health problems for me, and most of those are now gone! I can look in the mirror again, I can see my former self coming back, I feel happy again. So, these are my experiences and my perspective. I did a little research prior surgery, and I spoke with a lady, friend of a friend, who had a bypass done by my surgeon. This lady showed me before and after photos, and she looked fantastic 2 years post op! So, I decided to go with her surgeon, and I am very glad I did. I wish you all the best in your journey!
  22. Yes, I had my aeroplane jellies faithfully every day, different flavours. I looked in my pantry yesterday, and there is still a bunch of jellos there, as well as 2 boxes of Optifast ...... Another nice soups was asparagus, but the bits had to be either pureed or taken out. Good luck @@ramona5555 It will pass, just hang in there, as you are doing.

    Cruskits

I have been asked what are "Cruskits" They are a healthy, crunchy alternative for a snack. Made by Arnotts, we have them at Woolworths here in Australia. Surely American supermarkets stock them too ? Here are a couple of pictures for you, my American friends
