Greetings from Australia... freaking out!
OzRoo replied to NeedaBreak4Me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Katieisin Yes, definitely relaxing and taking it easy is good. The stomach and the body need to heal, and can't be rushed. As for changes, they do happen, but again they too take time. For me, at 3 months I could see a big change, and now again at 5 1/2 months later, even bigger and better changes. I am doing fine, just not sleeping well, which is a nuisance. Just waiting to see my endo, and my thyroxine dose should be lowered again, I think. I will see her early September. Heal up well, take your time, and before you know it, changes will happen! -

Hi @@judy vsg, few of us here with thyroid issues. Welcome to the club I have Graves disease, pain in the butt! However I am hoping for some stability in my thyroid once I reach goal weight. Have only been hypo for 1 month, 4 months after radioactive iodine treatment. Can't wait for my Thyroxine levels to be lowered and stay stable. How are you doing? Hope you are well. -

@@Katieisin If not for my thyroid disease, my recovery would have been rather smooth. With the weight loss I am back to hyper thyroid, so back to insomnia and sweats. Need my thyroxine dose adjusted down again. And yes, as aussiegirl mentioned, once on solid foods I started feeling much better. Good luck -
What's the first food you cheated with after Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
OzRoo replied to NoBsVs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had chocolate at Easter, 3 weeks post op. Well ..... it gave me awful reflux attack and made me so sick, that I haven't touched it since! -
Plus I eat Chobani yoghurt every day. I find the Nourex probiotic definitely working for me, it has eased my symptoms.
-
@@gina171 I am using Nourex Probiotic X50, made in the USA. I find this brand really good.

@@nprcowboy Sorry to hear about your struggles and challenges. I know how awful depression can feel, as I had few in the past. I too lately became severely depressed, about a month ago, due to still recovering from WLS, new job and my father becoming very ill and enormous stress with dealing with his ex wife, and legal matters. In the end, it was like my body said "no more"! "Have a break and time out". I am currently on Effexor 225mg, the highest dose, and am starting to feel better. I know that some anti-depressants can stimulate the appetite, but Effexor doesn't. There is another one, called Valdostan, that does not increase appetite either, and it helps to sleep, but I don't think it is available in the US. Other people mentioned Wellbutrin, that it also doesn't increase the appetite. As it was mentioned before, perhaps you can inquire re your current med, if it increases your appetite. You can also google the info about other meds, and discuss it with your doctor. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon! As depression can be life threatening, I am glad you are getting treatment for it. All the best!

I get them from my pharmacy or a health food store. I asked for a strongest one, so I only take it once a day.

Is Eating Fruit Like Eating Candy?
OzRoo replied to Elizabeth Anderson RD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I eat blue berries, black berries, apples and melons. I add grated apple to my yoghurt, and have berries and melons for dessert. They take care of me needing something sweet after dinner. No more ice-cream and frozen yoghurt for me, as this created cravings for more sweets. Berries and melons satisfy the sweet urge, and I don't get cravings for more later @@Elizabeth Anderson RD Great post! Thank you. -
Gurgling stomach within minutes of eating
OzRoo replied to magoosmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, mine does it too. I have an emptying bath tub analogy ..... Sometimes it is quite loud. Happens almost every day, I eat the recommended food, but it still gurgles away. I guess my stomach is still healing, and I just have to wait and maybe one day it will get better ..... Annoying when in company of others though. I sneeze lot more these days too .... -
@@northstar9148 I take probiotics now, as I found out that my mostly Protein diet, and post op I was full of wind, and it was quite offensive. Probiotics helped with this problem, and I don't get so much wind anymore. I stopped taking it a while ago, and I got worse, so now I am taking it religiously every evening.

@@Katieisin Good luck post op, and I hope all goes well for you. I did not have a band, just the sleeve in March 2016. Initially I had bad reflux problems, and I swapped from rabeprazole to Nexium 40mg, and this worked wonders for me. Now, 5 1/2 months later, I am slowly weaning myself of Nexium, and so far so good. Nexium is long lasting, so I am now taking it every 2nd day, instead of every day. I have lost 28 kg so far, and even though I am not exercising much lately, I still keep losing. I also see my bariatric psychologist for support, and read up a lot on this forum. I have an auto-immune thyroid disease, and this helped my massive, rapid weight-gain in the past 2 years. At 54, I hope you also had your female hormones checked, as an imbalance there can also help weight-gain. You are early post op, and it is great that you are following your post op plan. For me, the only time I had few stalls or small weight gain was when I deviated from my food plan, and had slider foods such as ice-cream or frozen yoghurt in larger quantities. This aggravated my sugar craving, so I stopped eating those foods and substituted fruit instead. I also weaned myself off Equal, and have been using Stevia instead. Much better as Stevia does not play havoc with blood sugar levels. As far as I know, the sleeve has worked for many of us, providing we stick to the food plan and portion sizes. My appetite has diminished significantly at the moment, even though I can now eat slightly larger portions, but with Protein first and eating good food, I am still losing weight. Next step, after I reach my goal weight-gain, will be maintenance. I will see my dietician then, again. So, give it time and good luck! Say hello to Melbourne from me I used to live in Melbourne and in Sydney before Queensland. -

@ Fingers crossed! If however the pain persists, have a X ray scan done or Ultra Sound, to see what is happening there. Good Luck!

I have boobs like flat pancakes now, still better smaller in size to what they were before .... huge and uncomfortable. Maybe one day I can have them lifted ..... My arms are bit floppy, I feel I want to tape them up. These are the only post op floppy effects so far. On the great side is my face, looks like the weight loss was a natural face lift! My eyes are big again, and I look about 10-15 years younger. Very happy with that

@ Yes, it could be your gall bladder. Both the liver and gall bladder are on the right side of the body. I had 1 big stone that made my life miserable. Sudden sharp pains on my right side, incredibly painful, felt like I was being stabbed with a knife, repeatedly. As I was travelling so much for work, I didn't want to be stuck overseas or have my common bile duct obstructed with possibly no doctor on a long-haul flight. Since it was long time ago, I remember the super painful attacks, and my poo was getting lighter. Please, have it checked out ASAP! Don't wait till a possible infection or obstruction. And please let us know how you went. Good Luck!

@@NoMoreWeightNJ Good luck with the gall bladder removal! For me it was no more pain or worries when the next attack would come, how bad the pain would be and how long would the attack last. I was told to be careful with fatty meals post op. And later on I did not notice any changes in my digestion, and no malabsorption. I had frequent diarrhoea, but this was due to my Graves/Hyper-thyroid disease. Some people have reactions to heavy/fatty meals after the cholecystectomy, I didn't. My gall bladder was taken out 20 years ago, well before my WLS. I hope you get more replies to your question. Good luck, and get that sucker out!
