This is a great thread! I suggest that everyone who is considering WLS read it. And anyone else who is post op. LipstickLady is a great success, and her thread says it all

@@jenrae1 So do I wish for you that your hair stays healthy. I also have thyroid disease that can also contribute to hair-loss, but so far so good with both WLS and my thyroid condition. I diligently followed my post op instructions, took all the recommended Vitamins and followed my food plan, which is high Protein, low carb and lots of Water. I still take my vitamins and eat healthy with lots of protein, and drink plenty of water. Good luck to you!

    Eating or Drinking Your Nutrients?

Are there any SAVOURY Protein bars? All I have seen so far are sweet Protein Bars. I have never tried a Protein Bar, but wouldn't mind a savoury one, like one with cheese flavour. Do they exist?
  5. @@Pinkberry2 Awesome! Glad it is getting easier. Here's to a happy recovery
  6. @@WLSResources/ClothingExch LOL ..... oh well, so I will be the only silly one then. Hope it will bring a smile to the lurkers Thank you for the Father's day wishes for my Vodka loving Dad. He can't have any now, as he is still in a hospital due to a bad fall. Poor Dad, hope he gets better soon. Oh, and thank you for hiring me!
  7. @@OutsideMatchInside Thank you for the info and advice. Yes, at 6 months the stomach is healed, and I am noticing the changes. I am still measuring my 1/2 cup portion per meal, and eat the same healthy Snacks. I have increased my Water intake, as now I can guzzle it easily. You are so right re sticking to portion sizes. Even though at times I feel I could eat more, I now wait half hour and notice that I am satisfied. Satisfied and not full, as you said. Great, I needed to be reminded of this, thank you. Then the next hurdle will come at 12 months, as you said. So good habits and discipline are essential. Congratulations on you awesome weight-loss! Fantastic!

Hi @@jenrae1 No, no hair loss for me, at least not so far. If anything, my hair got healthier and grows really quickly now.

    Thyroid

@@lelewatson Yes, my concentration at times is not great again, and my fuse is shorter too. Could be also due to my ongoing insomnia, due to the hyper state. I was glad I had few boxes of Beta Blockers left, as they helped with my racing pulse and higher blood pressure. I certainly don't feel as bad as I did prior my RAI, lot of past troublesome symptoms disappeared, but insomnia, some irritability, sweats, bad headaches and few shakes came back. I too hope that whatever range will show up on Thursday, I will get adjusted treatment for that. So, it is a learning curve, and we need to be vigilant and monitor our symptoms and blood tests during the weight-loss process. Let me know how you go, please.

    Thyroid

@@lelewatson You have a good point re radioactive iodine, as in some cases it doesn't work the first time, and some people need to do it again. For me, prior RAI my TSH was < 0.01 After RAI, 4 months later my TSH was 17.4, in December 2015. Started Thyroxine in Jan 2016, in Feb my TSH was 3.4, and in March it was 1.9 A month after my surgery, TSH was at 0.6 2-3 months later it was < 0.01 back to Hyper-thyroid. I will know my latest blood results this coming Thursday, but physically I feel lot worse hyper-thyroid 6 months post op. So, for me, the weight-loss made me hyper-thyroid again. I even had few episodes of waking in the middle of the night with anxiety, and my hands shake at times. I can't tell you if you will get hyper-thyroid post op, you will have to monitor it, and have regular blood tests. All I know is what I read in this forum, and an Australian one, that for many of us the weight loss messed up our med dosages, and they had to be progressively lowered. These people, like myself suffered from insomnia, irritability and feeling hyper. The more weight is lost, the stronger the regular dose becomes, as it is calculated per Ib or per kg per person. Gosh, I wish I was on 50mcg .... anyway, I will find out on Thursday. Good luck with your op on the 20th September!

    Thyroid

@@FrankiesGirl Wow, that's a huge reduction from 150mcg to 25mcg! Please let us know how you go on this low dose. I wish I was on a low dose ..... I actually didn't want to take my Thyroxine for few days, but then I thought I better take it as prescribed and wait for my blood test result. Congratulations on your fabulous weight-loss! I agree, with bigger weight-loss, hormones do go nuts. I just wish they would settle down. If not for my thyroid disease, my recovery from WLS would have been really easy and smooth.
  12. @@jintycb Helllllooooo again! Great to hear from you Yes, the honeymoon period is great while it lasts, and then poof, it is gone ...... Your diet is very similar to mine, and congratulations for losing 67 Ibs! Yiha! I too don't drink alcohol, gave it all up 9 years ago. So, no empty calories for me. I've lost 62.7 Ibs so far, and I am noticing that lately my weight-loss has been slowing down. I have about 22-30 Ibs to lose, and I am learning to be patient. Happy Birthday for Friday! May this be the best new decade for you! And good on you for going back to dancing. It is so enjoyable, good exercise and good for the soul In my slimmer days, I did Latin American dancing, and performed in many shows when I used to live in Sydney. I absolutely loved it! Say hello to UK for me. I miss my airline international travelling days .... Have a great day!

    Thyroid

@@northstar9148 I have Graves Disease (Hyper-thyroid), and I had to have my thyroid nuked with radioactive iodine last year, then wait 9 months for my thyroid to stabilise, hence my surgery was delayed by 9 months. I started Thyroxine 100mcg in January 2016. Since about 4 weeks past sleeve surgery, I have been progressively getting more and more hyper-thyroid again! With the weight-loss, my Thyroxine dose is too strong. I have 6 weekly blood tests, and see my Endo every 3 months. Last time she told me to not take one tablet per week. It takes weeks for new dose to work. I have not slept well for months, and at times my pulse was racing, blood pressure was up and down, sweating came back, and horrible headaches. Plus really bad insomnia. I am seeing my Endo this Thursday, had a blood test today. Since I lost lot more weight since last time I saw her, I am quite sure that I am hyper-thyroid again, and I am hoping for another dose reduction. I am tired of being awake at night, and even sleeping pills are not helping, unless I take 2 or 3! So, for me, my thyroid disease did not slow my weight-loss at all. I am just tired of being tired because I can't sleep. I have to take my Thyroxine (Synthroid) for life, and I am hoping that once I get to my goal weight, and stay there, my Thyroxine dose will be lower and finally stable. Had enough of my vampire hours .......
  14. Congratulations! You did it! Was your gall bladder was taken out at the same time? Good luck and best wishes with your recovery! For me, the hardest part were the 1st two weeks, then it got progressively easier and better. Happy recovery

@@Dub OK, grateful, handsome devil Yes, it is wonderful for newbies to see what a wonderful difference this surgery can make, and it is great to see the actual fabulous changes in people later post op. I am also very grateful, even at just 6 months post op, the changes are amazing. I love my sleeve!
  16. @@rebelchelz Thank you! I hope you get your date soon I was supposed to be sleeved originally in July 2015, but had to wait 9 months because I was diagnosed with Graves Disease ( Hyper-thyroid) by my surgeon's Endo. Had to stabilise my damn thyroid first ..... it took 9 months! So, I hope all goes smoothly for you and that you get your date soon. Best Wishes!
  17. @@Dr-Patient No, no carbs except few non starchy veggies and little fruit, mainly 1/4 grated apple with my yoghurt, and bit of melons and berries on some evenings. My diet is high Protein. I don't eat bread, rice or Pasta. I eat yoghurt, Chobani (high protein), cream and cottage cheese, hard cheese at times, chicken, fish, veal. Just noticing that my previous food aversion and little appetite has changed, and I know it is a further down post op process. I am still losing weight, but not as much these days.

@@Dub What an awesome result and transformation! Well done !!! You are a handsome devil, aren't you ? So here is another great result and you look 20 years younger! 20. @@LMSWNYC Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes and yes! Well said Happy Sunday to you too! Monday here now, and another doctor's appointment and blood test ..... Has to be done
  21. @@LMSWNYC I used to be a gym member wherever I lived before. Pre-paying for membership definitely kept me motivated so I would get my money's worth. I liked gyms that offered great aerobic classes, pilates, step classes, boxing classes, dancing classes, and also having a tailored weights program. These days, for now I just walk, and do aerobic dancing in front of my big TV while streaming my favourite dance songs on YouTube. Good luck, hope you find a gym that suits you.
  22. @@LMSWNYC Yes, definitely support each other. It is great to have this forum to help us and others to exchange and share experiences and support! Agree re determination and resiliency, together with knowledge and right action will help us to reach our goals, and then maintain them. Yes, this transition is not easy, I was hoping it would happen at 12 months, but it is happening now, so yes, got to stay strong and keep going forward one day at a time. Best wishes to you and others who are going through this stage.
  23. Thank you dear ladies and fellow sleevers! I remember at one stage that 6 months post op was so far away, and I couldn't wait to get there. And now it has arrived. Yes, myself or anyone else after losing lot of weight look lot younger and lot more attractive. And feel lot more healthier and happier. I hope to be at my target weight before this year ends. Good luck to us all !
  24. @@LMSWNYC Yes, I think it happens because our stomachs have finished healing, and appetite changes. I too was supposed to be on 80g Protein per day, but mostly manage 60-65. I will increase the Proteins then. Funny, I too drink hot chicken broth at times, and this helped my hungry but not at meal time cravings. I just love my melons and berries for deserts these days, just like you. I have finally lost bit more weight after a 3 week stall this time, so I am learning to know and accept this stage now. Until another new stage arrives, in this post WLS process and journey.
