How did you deal with those last stubborn pounds?
OzRoo replied to JupiterinVirgo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, it is normal. Still, after steadily losing weight to hardly any, it was a big shock to me! Did lot of reading on this, and found out that it is normal. Happens earlier with some people, or later, but it seems that when the stomach is fully healed, the weight loss slows down significantly. I too freaked, and now I am grudgingly accepting it. I now know I have to be very careful with carbs, hence I stepped up my Proteins, so after eating mainly proteins I started noticing a difference. Also, apparently extra 3 glasses of Water per day makes a difference too. I even posted an article on this in the Research section. Keep on trucking and soldiering on I am ..... -
How did you deal with those last stubborn pounds?
OzRoo replied to JupiterinVirgo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
9 months post op, and I have been the same weight for the past 2 months. Today I finally lost 2.2 Ib (1 kg) ..... I am so close to goal ..... and it is so, so very slow for me now. I am eating still same size portions, 1/2 cup, but I really concentrate on Proteins and more Water. I even eat very little fruit, especially rock melon that I love. I thought this happened to me because I was lower BMI to start with ...... However, my March buddies also noticed that the weight loss has really slowed down, for most of us. At least, I lost the 2.2 Ib, took me 2 months ... but it is still happening at a snail's pace. I have better NSVs, so I am still shrinking, even though the scales are not budging much ..... Good luck with those last few pounds! You have done so well! Congratulations! Great topic, thank you @@JupiterinVirgo -

@@vccaan Yes, this autoimmune thyroid disease can really make life difficult. I am sorry to hear about the 2 large nodules. Hope that you get this resolved soon and with success! Congratulations on your great weight loss! Well done!!! Yes, the meds can throw a curve ball, I am glad that you found out the cause. With my med, I always put it on my bedside table, so I take it first thing in the morning when I wake up. The rest stays in the fridge, but I cut out 4 blisters, and each night I put one in a tiny dish on my bedside table. This way, I don't forget. 2 doses adjustments ago, my med was halved, and even though my blood tests came back "normal", I was in the higher end of TSH, and I really noticed the difference! I did not feel too good. So the dose was increased, and now I am back to hyper symptoms ..... Another dose adjustment now ..... I am glad you are back on track! Christmas can be such a busy time ..... When my med was halved, my weight loss stopped. Now my scales are still not budging, but at least I am shrinking. Best Wishes to you

Vets: sleeve lasts only 9 months?!
OzRoo replied to judy vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@judy vsg Bravo!!! Awesome fitness week for you. Congratulations! And yes, it is now easy for me to eat around the sleeve, hence I know what I need to watch out for, and what to avoid if I want to stay at a healthy weight for me .... And how to fix it later if I fall off the wagon ..... Hard work has begun! Best Wishes to you! -
Ooops, sent a PM to a wrong person. @@Daja You just got a PM from me, thinking it was you in the first post Please, don't be afraid to ask questions. Sometimes, us "older" ones get fed up with the bad treatment many of us get, and the whole kinder-garden style wars, fights, judgements, name calling etc. I nearly walked out yesterday, after a Newbie called me a "Bully" As I can only speak for myself though, I am happy to help/support a mature person, who is willing to follow their surgeons'/bariatric teams instructions. Otherwise, I ignore the trouble makers, as Life is Too Short! And of course, I am not perfect, I made mistakes, but they were not life threatening, and lot further down post op.

@@GinaCampbell How about Black pudding ? I liked it. I love beef tartar, but I thought I would be ill after eating a snail, and definitely no frogs legs for me!

Vets: sleeve lasts only 9 months?!
OzRoo replied to judy vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@judy vsg I am 9 months post op, and for Myself, I noticed that my hunger returned after 6-7 months. It was a shock, however I still have the restriction and can have 1/2 cup dense Proteins with more non-starchy vegetables. My stomach completely healed after 6 months (most do), and this was a sign that my stomach was healed from a "baby" stomach to an "adult" stomach. I can now eat food that I couldn't before, and some slider foods/junk don't have a violent reaction for me. I can also eat chocolate now, which in the past made me very ill. So, as mentioned above, the restriction is still there, just need to watch what I eat, and if I indulge in a slider, I then step up my proteins, Water and exercise, and don't touch the sliders. I also went back to my PPI (I was supposed to be on it for 12 months post op, had terrible reflux) that I weaned myself off it after 6 months. I was told re: Silent Reflux, and I had the symptoms of it, such as unusual large hunger and some acid burning. I take my Nexium every 2nd day these days, and it is helping me. I still have to pay attention to my thyroid issues, as some of my Thyroxine dosage changes affected my hunger levels. I am still shrinking even though my scales have not moved much lately, my rings, my clothes show me that I am still losing inches. Good eating habits are very important, and it is a life-long commitment after the sleeve. I have to watch sugary carbs and stay away from them. So, the sleeve still works, just the stomach fully heals, the nerve endings and other trauma to the stomach heals, and with it hunger can return, as well as bad food choices may not elicit a violent reaction anymore. Hence, another stage begins, the hard work of sticking to the correct food choices and sizes. I can now also drink a half 1.5L bottle of water in one go, can easily guzzle it these days. -
I guess the same way an American would be confused by someone from England saying they ate a "spotted d**k" by sucking on it to make it mushy...........Hey wait a minute. It isn't as suggestive with a bugle snack. Yes, people asked me here what are "Cruskits" or "Snicker Pods", how about "cough lollies" .... Anyway, before this gets even more out of context and proportion, Here is a photo of my local Woolworths chips aisle: Over and out, had enough of dramas in this thread. Peace and well wishes to all.

Different time changes for few of us, hence we can't all know about "the latest post, etc" As I mentioned earlier, I was puzzled about bugles, not sure if we have it here in Australia. At first I thought: "bagels", this reminded me of beagles that I adore, as well as pugs. I am sorry if a certain poster or two feel offended, this was NOT Personal !!! So, for goodness sake, have a bugle, bagel, beagle, whatever and listen to the Buggles: And to all the hangry people, put a smile on your dial, not everything is about you. As for being called a "BULLY", I choose not to be offended. Feel free to read all of my 1,000 plus posts and find one that I was "bullying" someone, especially a newbie ... This anger defies logic. This is why most of the great people here are leaving or left already. BP will be run by Newbies full of non-experience and lousy advice. Merry Christmas to you all.

I wonder if this is a New "gate" ...... Buglegate and/or OzRoogate .......

I had no idea what bugle was, apart from the obvious. Learnt that these were chips; well, learn something new every day Now I have to check the junk food aisle in my supermarket here ..... Warning: Satanic Entity who dares to have a sense of humour, in Rants and Raves of All places! No name calling (except for myself ), no links to a thread, ....... SMH But:
